I'm absolutely fine with it, but it would have been nice if they gave us a price reduction on the iPhone 12 to go with it and/or if they made the $29 USB-C charger significantly cheaper. I remember when they released the first USB-C Macs they sold USB-A to USB-C dongles at lower prices for a while. They should do that again this time with the USB-C chargers.

The majority will win, because they will already have an iPhone charger and that way they won't be paying more for the new iPhones (since the more expensive production will be compensated with fewer accessories). You're also helping the environment.

For those who don't have an Apple charger, it will be a bummer.
I’m fine with this. But drop the price. $50-60 less for the headphone and charger and cable. Those in need can then still budget to buy them from Apple.

You surely don't think the savings is passed on?

3 things:

Get rid of the earpods. That’s fine. Most people have headphones any way and if not you can get them pretty easily and cheaply.

Get rid of the charging cable: That’s fine. People need different lengths any way and there are plenty of options out there.

Get rid of the charging block? No way. With different wattages and so many less than reputable sources, it seems like charging would become dangerous. The average person goes on amazon and buys the cheapest one they can find or finds one or gets one from a friend and risk frying the phone or starting a fire. What I think Apple should do is include with purchase a voucher for the retail cost of the 5w block. Customer can use it to buy one or apply it to the fast charge one. Or anything in the apple store. It amounts to a $10 gift card that will be spent on stuff that apple is already getting a profit (probably) on.

This is one of the ways Apple will increase their margins/profitability and become a $3 trillion company because honestly, do people believe Apple will pass along the savings to buyers?

It will all be additional margin for Apple, or at best a $1 reduction just passing on the cost saved on the charger. If it were the other way around and they were going to add a charger, they would add the full $19 retail price to the phone.

I’m here for the comments from people complaining who probably own various chargers and don’t use EarPods.
I use the bundled EarPods with my 7 Plus because lightning headsets are rare in my country, and Apple stopped bundling the lightning to 3.5mm adapter. The bundled earpod is literally the only wired earbud I can use with it.

The margin will be the same, roughly 38% GPM. Likely the cost of the phone increased due to the LIDAR sensor. Removing the charger, cable, and buds helps towards keeping the price the same.

I doubt many people even use them anyway.

Buy AirPods. Wirelessly charge your phone.

Useless crap.
You say useless crap, but you're the one that chose to buy accessories to the items you already have that, at the most basic level, do the exact same thing.

I wonder if covid Supply chain issues or economics drove this...The days of providing wired headphones are definitely behind us but i'm not sure it's time to remove the charger/cable, especially since Apple uses a proprietary cable.

Apple should just sell two different SKUs per each model, one without any accessories (not even charging cable) and one with all the accessories for $50 more.

And the environment angle is weak, considering that Apple is still shipping those chargers and EarPods separately as stand alone accessories. I mean look at those 5W iPhone chargers Apple has piling up in their stores.

I see that as a transition though. Over time the 5W charger inventory will dwindle as long as Apple doesn't make more. Apple will produce more 18W/20W chargers to meet the needs of those who will need them, and then that production will slow as well over time from reuse. I think the environmental effect is there, just not necessarily an instant one.

I did the math. Collectively we all have a bazillion (ha) extra chargers lying around unused. As painful and cheap a move as this seems, I believe it to be a good move once past this transition. Rather than throwing away my 5W chargers, though, I have found use for them with products that don't come with chargers. That trend is only going to grow.

I have the original chargers from my iPhone 4S, iPhone 5S and iPhone 7. The only thing I change over the years are the USB cables. Chargers have stayed the same up to now and still work. I would not have an issue with the next iPhone not including a charger.
I still have the original cable from the 5th Gen iPod Video. Strangely enough, it's held up better than most recent Apple cables... no fraying or nothing.
