yet everyone on here is going to buy it regardless of how it looks because Apple. sticking with the X until it no longer functions and when Apple can do something innovative

Everyone agrees it’s too ugly. Better to stay flat and improve around stay flat. That’s innovation. Same with TrueDepth. These are just prototypes that Apple threw on the wall. Apple cares only about form, not function.
No, you're the one who cares about form. "It's ugly." That is form, not function. Truedepth and a third camera are features. Functional features. Cameras of the quality contained within high-end phones are just too thick to not need a bulge of some kind. Thin and light phones have real benefits beyond looks. Your only complaints are about form. It doesn't look good to you. Also, lying flat on the table isn't function. That's still form.

I'm amazed what is accepted as good design at apple in 2019. The stupid notch. A bump. Keyboards that feel awful and fatiguing..... And everyone just laps it up like little kittens with a milk saucer.

I know its a rumor but hopefully Apple wouldn't make another stupid move and do what they did with the "Plus" models (keep the higher end specs only for the big screens) and just follow what they've done with XS and XS Max, only the screen and battery being the changing factors

I’m just annoyed that I spent money for my iPhone X a year ago because it’s more “high end”. My iPhone X is so slow now and crashes a lot (screen will go black and will bring it back to the lock screen).

Also it’s so slow now too. It’s amazing how after a year it’s slower than the XR that’s so much less expensive. The higher end iPhone should have a different chip that’s even faster, so the phone is more future proof and can handle apps just as good as next generation base phones.

The higher end phones need to be more future proof!
What, really? There are people who are still using iPhone 6’s. Maybe you need to do a reset and start new. Sounds like something went wrong during an update or app installation. It shouldn’t be that bad already. My 8 Plus is running just fine.

That is so stupid. If they gonna make the bump bigger why not instead of 3 cameras MAKE ONE WITH 3 TIMES BIGGER SENSOR, 24MP, so you crop it to 12MP and you have your "zoom". Three cameras are a joke, what a waste of space, 3 mediocre sensors instead of one good. Only a lot bigger sensor would bring better image quality, isn't that what we want the most?

There’s a bitter struggle going on in Apples design team over the last few years. One half believe in form following function - that the components define the shape of the product The other half that believe purely in the aesthetic and start steering the design away from functionalism and toward the decorative.

There’s a balance to be found between them, and I feel like they’ve rarely got it right recently.

I personally think the protruding camera (bump) is a good idea.
Two reasons:
First, most people use a case with their iphone. If camera sits flush, the tendency is for the case to interfere with the camera by not letting enough light in or causing a shadow or even an obstruction.
Second, the bump allows one to feel where the camera is and therefore avoid covering it with one's finger while holding the phone and taking a photo. Added advantage of the bump and not allowing the phone to lay flat is it prevents the lens from getting dirty or scratched from whatever dust or debris is present on the table or surface where it is placed.

If this comes to fruition, there is no way that I will shell out money for this butt ugly design.

I'll hold on to my Xs or potentially update to the new Xr (given the Xr doesn't go with a hideous camera design too).

It's ironic that so many criticize Apple for desiring form over function, yet nearly everyone in this thread is complaining about form and instead suggesting decreased function.

As for placement of the camera. I really like that it's in the corner instead of in the center. I can't count how many times this has allowed me to take an unobstructed photo by angling and pivoting it through the squares of a fence. It would have been harder to take a clear photo if the camera had been located in the center of the phone.

Everyone? Do you even spend time in this forum? LOL

Seems like these things are constantly debated, discussed, and cursed about on the regular.

I've never given a crap about what the back of my phone looks like when I'm looking at the from for 99% of the time. No matter what design they come up with there will be people jumping at the bit to say how ugly it is.

Every year people say the newest iPhone is ugly, literally. Just look through these forms.
I don't understand why people think it's so ugly. It's no more or less so than most modern smartphones. One or two YouTubers don't like it and suddenly it's a thing.

I just wish the bump would go away.

There MUST be a better way to add better camera functionality without multiple cameras presented in such a rubbish fashion. Get rid of the camera bump Apple. Steve Jobs would have HATED this. The man couldn’t stand for protruding CD drives.

It looks ugly, it will be expensive, people will complain and still people will buy it. Apple couldn’t care less.

the only way this looks remotely good is if it's flush.

I doubt we're going to see flush.

Hopefully by 2020 apple will come to their senses and we will see a great design in the iphone line up.
Hopefully...

I’d rather they don’t do that, increase the thickness, make the camera lens sit flush with the body, increase the battery life and drop the price by $200.

Or just keep doing what your doing Tim, I’ll just keep hanging onto my 6S for yet another year.

I’ve been in the Apple ecosystem for a decade now (more if you include having an iPod mini and video) and the prices have simply become outrageous. My 6S cost me $650, this is not worth $350 more to me.

Apple hasn’t just grown greedy, lazy and out of touch. They’ve grown boring which is a much greater problem.
