How did it come to this? Didn't we used to run with tape Walkmans and CD players?

Spoiled we are. 2cm and 1cm increase in size and suddenly people are stating its impossible to run.

I was using a arm band with my Note 3 all the time while running, Skating, doing HIIT workouts like the Insanity Program, and lifting weights 3 days a week in the Gym. Having a large device like the Note 3 on my thin arm was no problem at all and I don't think it will be an issue working out with the iPhone 6 Plus on my arm either. I got the armband for my Note 3 at BestBuy which is where I'll be checking for a iPhone 6 Plus armband as well.

I run w/ my 5. I barely fits in my back pocket so I'm excited for my 6 but dreading that first run w/ it when I realize I'll either have to hold it or strap it to my arm. I can't imagine running with bigger.

Sure you can do it, but people buying the 6 plus are not thinking exercise accessory.

Can I ask why you cannot have another smaller device to run with?

It will not have GPS.

Sure it will. It needs an iPhone ;)

I run (and cycle) with my iPhone for safety concerns as much as for listening to Spotify or podcasts. I'm frequently on trails in the early morning with few other people around. I want access to a phone in case I'm injured or something else comes up.

As for carrying an iPhone, my 5S fits comfortably in the water-resistant SPIbelt. I tested the belt with a iPhone 6 mockup and it will fit fine. I also tested it with an iPhone 6 Plus mockup and it fit, but it was extremely tight. If I somehow end up with the Plus I'd likely switch to the larger SPIbelt (which is not water-resistant, a serious downside for marathon running).

I use the Nike + Running app and Pandora app on my runs. Nike + Calculates my miles, time, calories, etc. With Pandora, I like to have a large variety of music and change it up constantly. I cannot do with my iPod, unfortunately.

Plus, it's nice to have my phone with me. I've had to call home before to get a ride after an injury, or the dreaded bathroom-cannot-wait problem.

Yes, Yoda, we used to run with a Walkman and that's why the Walkman kept getting smaller and smaller. People wanted them to be more portable. This entire situation with phones getting bigger and bigger annoys and confounds me. Why are we going backward?

No, they were for walking. Hence the name. I tried running with a few but they skipped or garbled to badly.

I really think it's mostly non-exercisers driving the trend. They just don't care to have a mini-tablet in their pockets. And they probably wear very large clothing.

I never ran with a tape walkman or CD player. Too bulky and/or too easy for the CD to skip. I remember trying to skate with a CD player in the 90s - always gave up after a few minutes and put it in my backpack.

Even MD was heavy and bulky and tended to skip. The MP3/flash drive era was where things got good for runners imo.

I'm an avid runner...and I want the 6+. I usually run home from my office, so using an alternate device when I run is not an option.

Can somebody who runs with a Phone similar in size to the 6-Plus give me some opinions?

Will they even make a running case/band for the 6-Plus?

Sure they'll make an armband or something but hey.... maybe keep your current phone as your work out device..... I have an old 3gs, and old 4s and soon 5 sitting being used as iPod touches as we speak.... You sell or get rid of all your old phones? What if there's an accident and you need a back up?

In my part of the world. Rather regularly.

Samsung can make waterproof phones, why can't Apple.

They can they choose not to...... move along now.

Tip for the guys going to use this as an exercise partner - get bluetooth earphones (a co. called Jaybird do some, they're not amazing, but they're okayish. Just don't pay RRP, find them in a sale).

It's massively irritating and goofy to run wired earphones from your armband up through your running shirt. Wearing the armband on the outside of a shirt is the other option, but it's super goofy and you'll need to find a way to tuck the lead in.

BT LE earphones are definitely going to make a big difference to the overall experience and reduce setup time when you just want to get up and go.

I've made a number of posts against using phones as an exercise partner, but until I was ready to commit to a real GPS watch, I actually ran with the iPhone 4 and tried lots of diff. options including armbands.

Why would I 'move along now'? Because you don't like what I'm saying about Apple being behind Samsung in making waterproof devices? Why does it trouble you do much that my opinion causes you to try and get me to go away?

Cause your attitude is junk.... Can't say other things because they'll slap my hand. The topic isn't waterproofing of phones, it was running with phones. Your sammy love doesn't really belong. Of course I'm the master of thread sniping so I should shut it but........ I didn't. Only challenging you because you asked someone what does running in the mountains have to do with needing a phone.......You know goose and gander and all...... Want a water proof iPhone? Here ya go: http://www.liquipel.com/
You paint a majestic picture of this awesome outdoorsy life you have there.
What's this got to do with needing an iPhone?

Running involves running in the rain for a lot of people, including people like me, who lives in a very wet environment.

I don't own any Samsung devices. You've taken a partisan attitude and seem offended by mere comparisons. I've had Apple products for 25 years+ and feel free to highlight their pros and cons. And they do have some major cons. Deal with it.

What does, 'you're the master of thread sniping' mean? Have you entered a competition for thread sniping and have some award for it?

Who refers to themselves as master of anything. With you claiming to be 42 years old, it's all very cringe-y and elipses-y.

LOL... Im 42 so remembers the old, huge walkmans and even better the discmans when they came out. The reason phones are getting bigger is because of how we use them.... when the 4 was around I used to be really against a larger sized phone.... thought they were big and goofy looking. When the 5 came out I decided I wanted a larger screen for all I do.... mostly surfing and looking up medical crap on several different apps but I found my old eyes starting to struggle with looking at the text at times... Time for lasix I guess.

LoL... basically means I'm a douche (knowing is half the battle) and typically come in and comment on other people's comments as a "fun" way to break up the night. I however am trying to reform my ways..... Just thought I'd give you a bit of what you were giving others.

when women see men running with iPhone + bouncing up and down they will sort of understand why we watch them run. Sort of, they'll never fully understand :)

I don't know what you are doing, but please don't compare our posts, they're nothing alike.

I went through a running tights phase. Thought, 'screw this, it's cold and I'm entitled to run in tights too'.

Lasted a season and packed it in. You DO get women staring at your junk. Men too!

Yeah your right... I was being out front and in your face and you were being passive aggressive.... they aren't anything alike you're right. Pretty much means one of us has the balls to say what he wants and the other wants to hide behind "words"... I'm done with you now, have a good day.

What are you talking about balls for, 'master sniper'.

I don't think you know what passive-aggressive is, or maybe you're a bit para and think everyone's out to get you if they have a different POV. You're not a prepper or something are you?

I made points about the running in the elements with a bulky non-waterproof piece of glass and metal electronic device strapped to you. Only on an iPhone forum would that be considered to be passive-aggressive. Anywhere else that's called common-sense.

For majority of people, especially people in wet environments - get a GPS watch.

42 as well and my recent eye exam still puts me @ 20/15. So I guess this is why I'm still fine with the small screens. Being in Manhattan and not carrying a "murse", I tend to want my portable devices to all be as small as possible so that I can carry them in my pockets easily. I go long hours without going home and just don't want the inconvenience of several large "portable" items on my person.
