Why not just have a checkbox so we can have our tabs on top if we want, or don't if we don't?

I like the way it is on this final Safari build, but it would be nice if they had an option in the preference pane for those who like their tabs on top.

Request it. Safari menu > Report Bugs to Apple.

I have been using the tabs at the bottom since the 4.0 Beta came out. I am used to it now. I also use the topsites pretty often too. Not too much has changed for me.

Some people hated tabs on top, but I didn't mind them.

However, now that they are back, I don't mind that either. In fact, it seems more natural. Could be habit though.

I hated the tabs at the top personally, it was a major reason to stick with Firefox which has now been fixed for me

Tabs at the bottom are the way to go! At the top you just create unnecessary long mouse movement to switch tabs. Plus I think it looks awful.

CHOICE is the way to go

Tabs on top, bottom, side, behind the window - wherever you want them. I have grown to love top tabs and the extra real estate I get on my Macbook's screen. Just add a preference setting for this, Apple. How hard would that be and who would it hurt?

This is going to give Chrome a boost me thinks...

Yeah hence my comment in the parens. Anyone look through the plist file? :)

Go into terminal and type

strings /Applications/Safari.app/Contents/MacOS/Safari

Now to figure out which if any of those is used to change the tabs. The ones used during the beta period are gone. There are plenty of "tabLocation" and "tabBar" references. Ill see if any of them work.

exactly i just dont understand why they wouldn't put the option in there

Safari's top tabs were awful. Chrome does it right by stacking the tabs horizontally from the left. The Safari top tabs by dividing the window bar created moving targets.

One of the core aspects of the HIG is that it has to respect motor memory. The Dock sometimes messes this up with its auto expansion, but nowhere near as badly as the Safari 4 beta did.

I personally was dumbfounded when apple released the Beta, with the tabs on the top, and personally didn't care for it. But, i now am glad to have the old style back.

However, this is just a minor feature to me. Its more about the speed of Safari that i really care about.

Still no favicons in the bookmarks bar? I haven't played with it enough yet to figure it out...

I hope someone figures out a terminal command to be able to put them back on top.

Please post it here if you get it to work.

Thanks

at least when they were on top, you could have the choice of puting them back on the bottom with the plist. Any luck on the blue progress bar either? While not on by default in 4.0 beta I used the plist to get it back as well.
