cut and paste problems

Is anyone having the same issue as me. Safari 4 Public Beta won't allow me to cut and paste text into an e mail. I've checked and firefox allows it??

Doesn't work with Active-x. Doesn't work well with .net or aspx sites. Fail.

Nice troll.

Given that IE's market share is under 70% and falling, I think you will find that more and more sites aren't using Active X, and if they are they deserve to fail. Totally. It is an utterly awful technology and security hole.

Same here, I can log in to Hotmail fine but it refuses to open up any of the e-mails. Works fine in Firefox and the previous version of Safari - so something is deffo up with this beta.

Anyone have any solutions?

Yeah, me too.

I think the solution for me might just be to finally dump Hotmail and move permanently to gmail. Legend has it that Hotmail might actually get POP support sometime this decade, but I doubt it'll see IMAP support until 2015... Gmail FTW.

Anyone know how to have tabs at the top, but restrict the width (as in Chrome). The super-wide dynamic tab sizes are not for me - I prefer them starting from the left.

BTW this is on Leopard.

Overall I like, but had to put the blue progress bar back.

I
Tried sending apple a bug message via their new send a bug button. Hopefully they will try to fix this error.

  • It broke my mail so I had to downgrade back to 3. :[
  • I liked it excluding the tabs up top.
  • I use a bookmark to make safari full screen but the bookmark doesn't work if more than one tab is opened.
  • I thought the top sites thing was kind of annoying... we should be able to just easily specify which ones we want in there.

Rip off tabs

In Safari 3, you could grab a tab anywhere in the tab bar (left/center/right of the actual tab) and drag it out of your current window and drop it to create a new window.

Now you have to grab the tab by the upper right - any idea how to switch this functionality?

A truly impressive software release. Getting used to the new features took all of 5 minutes. Well done Apple!:D

Can someone comment on my previous post please. Does safari 4 install alongside safari 3 or does it override it in anyway?

thanks

Can't find this asked anywhere...

Has anyone found a way of changing the default search engine?? I'm from the UK, and Google US is a tad annoying.

I used to solve this with Inquisitor, but that doesn't work (at the moment anyway).

Glims build 13 has half-fixed it. You can specify your custom search engines (And even make your own. I use ixquick) and the one at the top of your list is the one that gets used, in spite of the engine that's displayed by safari.

I suspect they'll have it fixed and another build out quite quickly. They're pretty good like that.

Also on CNet, they ran tests of Safari 4 beta with Firefox 3.1 beta 2, which is probably more fair, and it showed that Firefox was still faster...

I don't understand why everyone is waving with benchmarks. They're depending on multiple things. When you read the comments, many people have other results. For me, Safari 4 'feels' much faster than Firefox.

We're reaching a certain point where the speed difference is hardly noticable. ;)

Just a question: why has safari flash video playback always become stuttery on a right click or drop down menu? is there a reason for this?

Is there any way to have my bookmarks displayed in a window on the left instead of in the bookmarks bar?

Even with recent updates to MobileMe and the Safari 4 Beta being available, MobileMe webmail performance through Safari is completely unacceptable.

Spontaneous reloads, messages disappearing instead of being sent, server confusion and other frequent problems still make MobileMe's webmail app a disaster.

It's still ass in windows, some pages load faster than firefox, others i seem to be waiting an age for. Firefox allows me to start viewing a page while its loading were Safari pauses until the full page is loaded.

Topsites looks a decent addition but i prefer Fastdial for Firefox.

It still doesnt allow me to open links in a new tab unless i control click.

Is everyone reporting feedback about the position of tabs, blue progress bar etc as these "Tips and Tricks" seem more like fixes to get it back to how it was before.

Edit: I almost forgot, the search bar still searches .com not uk. :(

Cheers for that. Got it perfect now :D
