So one of the reasons you have frequented MacRumors for so long is to catch Mac enthusiasts if they state incorrect information or information that you disagree with, in your opinion?

Does MacRumors have an ignore function?

This KnightWRX guy just seems to be here to troll, looking for slip-ups and arcane side-arguments so he can divert every thread with his minor niggling.

Seriously, can someone tell me if there's an ignore function here on the forums? On some forums there's a button for that, but I don't see it here.

Bing on Safari? Did hell just freeze over again? :D

Let's hope they make some improvements to mobile Safari too. Javascript performance on the iPad is terrible, which is unacceptable given Apple's stance on Flash.

Making stuff popuplar isn't making stuff in the first place though, and it's not more praise worthy than the innovators who made up the stuff in the first place. Project Looking Glass wasn't even the first around with the concept. It was one of the first to make something out of the existing flat window concept though.

I think some people just hit the kool-aid a wee bit too hard in the morning.

That's a wrong way to look at things. The first person who thought about a mp3 player with a flashdisk or hard drive didn't actually innovate the whole thing himself either. For him to innovate that people had to innovate about flash disks, 2.5" HD's, mp3 compression technology etc. So no, the person who thought about the first mp3 player is not more praise worthy than Jobs or any other person who didn't personally innovate on something in the first place.

And it's not about who deserves more praise or not. It's about who produces the best products to use. Nobody cares about praise.

Rumors/gossip in general have a very high potential to turn into just pure propaganda if run unchecked. That is exactly why in most societies gossiping is generally labeled as being "bad" or at very least something that is not a virtue.

What is the rationale behind letting folks make statements that are known to be untrue? In most cases that turns into kool-aid that is dispensed in the future. How does that make figuring out which rumors are true and which ones are fabricated garbage easier?

One of the primary reasons this (and other sites) exist is because Apple refuses to give folks a heads up on what they are going to do. That runs in conflict with folks who need to make planning decisions about things in the future. Some people come here hoping to find information in the flotsam of "stuff" that floats around the internet.

It is also quite obvious that other folks come here to drink kool-aid and experience a religious experience. Too form a hive mind collective around some topic dujour. Or where it is contest to toss FUD snowballs at evil devil worshipers from the other side. Countering FUD is more FUD only creates a bigger mess.

Don't forget that Apple ripped GUI off from Xerox!

Uh, no, Apple didn't "rip it off" from Xerox, Xerox was developing GUI in their labs to see if it was usable, they decided it wasn't and eventually abandoned the "Alto" project. Steve Jobs by then was granted access with other Apple engineers to view what Xerox was working on (in exchange for 100,000 shares of Apple stock) and was able to get the rights to further develop their little "experiment" along with the original engineer who was working on it (Alan Kay). And Apple further developed and polished the GUI and was able to bring it to market.

And that's what Apple does best... anybody can come up with an idea, but to be able to bring something to market in such a polished, user friendly way and have it be so successful that it becomes the defacto standard and all of your competitors (who initially laughed it off) wind up following in your footsteps, THAT's Apple's brilliance and THAT's what Apple has been able to do time and time again, with the GUI and Mouse, with the iPod and iTunes, the iPhone and now the iPad; every competitor when each of these technologies were initially announced, claimed it would never fly, and now each one tries to come out with a "me too" product to compete, you can't deny this and this is what makes the Apple hater's blood boil...

I'm just so sick of some of you Apple-Bashers who constantly have to spread lies just because of your unfounded hate. If you hate Apple so bad, why are you wasting your pathetic lives on an Apple related forum? Get a hobby! or a job! or a life!

I don't think he claimed USB was made popular by Apple. The iMac having only USB didn't spring forth all the USB accessories, the technology was already well entrenched in PCs. Heck, MP3 players were already on the way up and hugely popular and Apple's first iPod bombed something fierce because of its limitations (namely, requiring a Mac).

I do agree some people here will tell you Apple created MP3 players and USB out of thin air, and others that are more tame will just claim Apple is sole responsible for their adoption.

If the iPad does work though, they will have a point to say Apple made tablets popular, because frankly, those things have been around a while and have a serious problem moving units.

Correction: Apple made the first usable implementation of USB that just worked.

I have been messing around with computers since the early 1990s and have been professionally involved since the year 2000. I remember USB ports being introduced but my memory is that they were around before the iMac. I do remember that the iMac led to a lot of multicoloured devices but not specifically an explosion of USB devices.

That really isn't surprising that USB was around before the iMac appeared... however, what's debated is not when USB first appeared, but how widespread it was, and what effect, if any, the iMac had on USB support industry-wide.

That said, I do think you make a good point - having been involved with computers since 1986 (when I was just 4 years old) and started programming them in 1988 (when I was 6)... so I know a lot. I remember distinctly when the Bondi Blue iMac hit the scene, and the dramatic impact that had on Apple.

Pop-Up Blocker whitelist

Is it possible that Apple would release yet another version of Safari WITHOUT a pop-up blocker whitelist? Is there another browser that doesn't have this?

I'm suprised that in 13 pages of post I didn't spot a comment on Safari's archaic cookie management. Safari is wayyyyyy behind on this feature. I'm using "Safari Cookie's" plugin. But something like this should have been built into Safari by now.

Looking forward to the "Smart Address field" feature similar to firefox's also. Will save from having to open and search the the bookmark tab.

So let them. This is MACRUMORS. I take issue with people whose sole purpose is to troll and pick apart every little detail someone may state. Correcting people is one thing, that's why we have discussions. However, some commentators take it to an extreme art-form, and become condescending and head strong. In most cases, those who throw around the term "kool-aid" (which is very juvenile and only serves the purpose to inflame others) are simply here to discredit others to make them feel better and superior. It's trite. Polite discourse it one thing, grade school antics do not belong on an adult forum dedicated to those who love and use Apple products. If you take issue with those who like Apple products, then stop visiting and posting on MACRUMORS. :)

Yet KnightWRX, you've been attacking those who have factually stated you are incorrect in much of what you believe you are "correcting":

Apple this and Apple that. Apple Apple... It gets on my nerve and I find it insulting and unnecessary that everytime someone posts something about the computer industry, some guy makes it sound like Apple was there first and then needs to be debunked.

Which contradicts:

No, I frequent Macrumors for news on Apple and their Mac line-up and software.

So which is it, you're here to set people straight about Apple's history in computers and to insult/condescend others to the point they want to block you:

...or you're here cause you like Apple and it's products. We're all a bit confused...

Where is the contradiction ? I'm here for Apple news, I read it, read the comments, find people that invent a new history where Apple has been the sole creator in the computer industry and debunk them while I'm here.

Doesn't mean because I don't like hardcore Apple fans that I don't like Apple products. Read my "Black and white" post sometime. There are shades of grey you know...

*will*, not *is*

Funny, i thought Yahoo is licensing bing search results.

Yahoo! is still using its own search - the deal with Microsoft will take quite some time to implement. It probably won't be until the end of the year that the Microsoft search engine will be supporting Yahoo! search.
