I've been using Safari daily for the past two years and haven't looked back. Tried Firefox & Edge on Mac and didn't like them. iCloud syncing with reading lists, bookmarks and history is way too convenient. Apple has improved Safari significantly and I feel like it's a little underrated.

Where? Even those previews/beta versions can’t be installed as far as I know.

So if you could provide a link, that would be greatly appreciated.
In software update, if your version of macOS supports a new version of safari it’ll show up. Safari 16 runs on Big Sur or later.

Safari blends in seamlessly for the average user on Mac. But being the fastest is history, they should focus more in Safari and bring it back even snappier.

Wasn’t there an Apple Developer calling people out to file in bug reports and performance issues.

Guess they too busy with thinking strategies to milk consumers and user a like.

Next thing you know there will be a Safari+ subscription.

I’m always a bit surprised when I use someone else’s device and safari isn’t the default browser. Same with mail. For me, they are clean and just work.

There is nothing unusual about my surfing, no “underground” sites or janky outdated sites — pretty humdrum, civilian stuff, and only a couple extensions.

I still end up going to Brave at least a few times a week because something doesn’t display correctly, or load at all. This applies to desktop, M1 MBP, or mobile.

I’ve made a real effort to go all-in on apple software since getting the MBP (even replacing MS Office), but Safari is absolutely the sticking point in my experience - especially with online forms.

Since the LastPass debacle, I’ve transferred all of my internet passwords to Keychain since that seems like a safe alternative, but I haven’t researched the Brave password mgmt solution, outside of 3rd party managers. If I can bother to look into that, I may end up dumping safari altogether.

Have a look at Bitwarden, the free version is all you need. I use it in Firefox and Brave and use Keychain in iOS/Safari because it has got pretty good just not cross platform.

Safari is my primary browser. I stopped using Chrome years ago. For the few sites that don't run on Safari (any idea why?) I use Firefox
You can always make use of User Agent under Develop menu which is enabled at the bottom of advanced safari settings.

You sure about? You have to uncheck multiple data collection settings after install because they are on by default.
Telemetry can be turned off or blocked using a firewall. But this doesn't seem to be a very good thing, because software manufacturers can start making buggy software if they don't get feedback on how their software works. In addition, hacking contests influence the decision of which web browser to use. I believe no one wants to use a web browser that falls first in the hacking contect.

Safari is still my primary web browser and Firefox second. Yes, it was a bumpy ride, overall it’s quite successful.
I do the same.

They both have different extras, such as whats under the develop menu in Safari and whats under the Tools -> Browser Tools which Firefox has a web develop tools to inspect the URL page source coding.

SpeedoMeter2 bowser benchmark comparisons on 24" Imac @ .5 GB download
Firefox 108.0.2 = 259
Safari 16.2 (18614.4.1.500.1) = 358

The main reason I used to love Firefox was Firefox Containers. I'd love it if Safari ended up with a similar feature.

I have never had that experience nor has anyone I know, Sounds like there is something in particular about your setup/software that is causing the conflict.
I get it on different devices connected to different Apple IDs. Some are personal, some are work-owned. 🤷‍♂️

Interesting utility site I saw mention on AppleInsider, allows you to check out questionable web sites with your browser.
Analyze suspicious files, domains, IPs and URLs to detect malware and other breaches, automatically share them with the security community.

VirusTotal inspects items with over 70 antivirus scanners and URL/domain blocklisting services, in addition to a myriad of tools to extract signals from the studied content. Any user can select a file from their computer using their browser and send it to VirusTotal. VirusTotal offers a number of file submission methods, including the primary public web interface, desktop uploaders, browser extensions and a programmatic API. The web interface has the highest scanning priority among the publicly available submission methods. Submissions may be scripted in any programming language using the HTTP-based public API.

I didn’t know that, very cool.

Does it automatically open the other browser or just use the extensions within Safari.
It's used to troubleshoot web sites that don't work correctly with safari. It allows you to simulate another type of browser by changing the User Agent or UA String in the Safari web browser for MacOS.

Tempted to update Tim Berners Lee's NeXT browser to the latest version of Swift and security standards and surf the old nice and quiet web.

For me Safari hangs on every other website, I don;t find it fast at all and it's very wonky with certain sites like facebook and yahoo. The only thing I like about it is it's design.
Apple needs to cave already and base safari on Chrome

Are you using some additional safari web extension? For blocking popups, ads, or malware? Its not that unusual for something like that to mess things up for you.

Safari remains my daily driver (esp. with Private Relay).

I still have a soft spot for Mozilla Firefox even after all these years, I hope it never dies. 🥲

I like Safari and Firefox, but once I discovered Brave that took the spot as my main browser.

Fastest browser that randomly closes and reopens tabs:mad:, plus worse Website support than Chrome Or Firefox (Yeah look at you, auspost). If not because of Apple’s strong hand on iOS, I’d switch to chrome or Firefox a long time ago. At least on iPadOS Safari don’t randomly close or open tabs.

I was very excited for Safari. Downloaded the Beta and have been using it as my primary browser ever since. I might actually still have a .dmg of the beta and 1.0 on a drive somewhere. Before Safari I was a Netscape/Mozilla diehard. Spent hours in Netscape Composer building little websites just for fun.
