While at it, why don't Apple let Samsung manufacture the processors....I don't want to hear the hissing noise from the phone.

I swear if I can't get a OLED iPhone that has a flat screen I will never buy another iPhone again. I can't believe Apple would want to copy the POS curved screen that Samsung has, they truly will jump the shark if that happens. Who in their right mind thinks that curved screen is half way decent? All it does is distort your screen and make it horrible for watching video's on or reading web pages, WTF Apple!!!

Also the quote mentions AMOLED while the article from MacRumors says OLED. Maybe goes to show this is all just fake?? Hopefully that is true, only thing worse then a curved screen is a curved screen that is AMOLED instead of OLED.

I'm not especially interested in curved screens, but I am very much looking forward to iPhone having an OLED display.

Wow, I've always looked at my iPhone and thought "I wish the screen would wrap around the edges". It's mindblowing that Apple are literally just coping a feature first seen on Samsung devices a few years ago. It's pointless.

Just like I looked at my iPhone and thought "wow this 3.5mm headphone jack is so useless"

If you don't like it vote with your wallet!

I think they're going to make the edges wrap around to get rid of all the buttons and instead make them all touch based. They will also get rid of the mute switch like they did on the iPad. Unlike the S7 edge's which is purely for aesthetics, Apple will bring some functionality with their implementation. If they want a true touch screen phone with no buttons then they might as well go all out.

I imagine there will be a huge uproar with this (along with the removal of the home button), similar to the removal of the headphone jack this year.

Umm.. Actually Samsung has been developing edge features long before the S7 and S6. It started with the Galaxy Note Edge and they have tons of features for the edge display.

Clearly you havent used one, but yeah. Everyone except Apple is not innovative and once Apple copies something it's automatically better. Like the Live photo feature copied from the Nokia Lumias , right?
Sometimes you have to give credit to people that are innovative.

There are tons of other examples. Like Xiaomi already having an ultrasonic fingerprint reader under the glass. Or take a look at the Mi Max. It's basically just Display without an earpiece. The loudspeaker is a piezzo loudspeaker , it vibrates through the glass.

Now THAT is innovation and also courage (removing the earpiece and replacing it with an alternative) unlike what Apple does nowadays.

I have used one and I have one here with me right now. I love everything about it APART from the 'edge'. I played around with it for a couple days, didn't find it very useful so turned it off. Also, the amount of times I unintentionally open apps on this thing is highly frustrating. Again, it's aesthetically pleasing, but for me the edge features weren't very useful for me at all. Maybe I should've just gotten the regular version because apart from these annoyances I love it.

I used a curved Galaxy phone for a few weeks while I was traveling. I hated the curved screen, as it added little functionality and I would accidentally touch the screen just by holding the phone in my hand.

This was fixed with Note 7.
A slightly changed edge and better palm rejection software make this a non-issue.

Now it's at least not worse than our usual flat displays. We will have to see if Apple will make use of it or if it's just going to be there for design reasons.

Few were going to move from a Note to an iphone. They will just get the free S7 replacement and wait. Apple has nothing like a Samsung Note.

Also, the idea that people who had no issue with their galaxy S6 (or s7) were going to abandon Samsung because of a problem on a phone they didnt own is wishful thinking.

Who in their right mind thinks that curved screen is half way decent?

As with all features in non-Apple tech, almost none of us appreciates it now: "gimmick", "stupid", "99% don't need..."

But when Apple rolls it out in Apple tech, almost all of us will gush passionate love for it: "shut up and take my money", "best iPhone ever", "how did we ever get by without..."

In the time between now and then, the disdain will shift to variations of a "wait & see" sentiment... and then increasingly positive as rumors pile up implying Apple is actually going to embrace it.

In short:
  • Competitor feature not available from Apple: stupid, pointless, gimmick
  • Early rumors Apple is going to go with it: incredulous why? "No way" denial
  • Middle rumors moderate the hard negatives into wait & see
  • Late rumors increasingly confirming adoption: "it's growing on me" & "...but Apple will do it right"
  • Apple launches it: "shut up and take my money"
Slug in some other competitor product feature not in the iPhone for the next round of early rumors, rinse & repeat. See phones with bigger screens, NFC, etc for prior examples.

Personally, after 3 rounds of refining iPhone 6, anything of consequence that makes this phone tangibly different is probably going to jack up our enthusiasm to crazy levels. I suspect we're all well beyond itching for something- anything- that seems 'next big thing' from Apple and this seems to be the most obvious candidate to focus that enthusiasm.

I personally find the concept of the curved wrap around screen pointless... And I'm not slagging Samsung or anything...

I've seen enough of the Samsung Edge phones and just find it stupid looking, with app content or video going over the edges...
There's a point where PPI and screen size in its physical form intermix and that's appropriate. The idea of carrying around a phone with 6" or 6+" of screen is ridiculous. I've got large hands but even my S7 can be a chore sometimes. Nevermind mind the 6S+ we've got.

Yeah, I certainly wouldn't switch to Android because one model of one year of iPhones had a battery issues. I'd just buy a different model. It's not like this is a persistent problem for Samsung. It was just one model. Even if you were scared off Samsung, you have other choices, including the Pixel.

....Are you incapable of realizing that a curved display doesn't mean "half assed folded over the edges" design?

My understanding is they have long understood the need for at least one physical button (sleep/wake button?) to be able to reset the device if needed.

"Guys - you know that iPhone, the one that's so wide you have to operate it with two hands?"

.... said no one other than someone with child-sized hands.

Wrong. I can palm a basketball and the plus display is too big for me (I spent a year using one.) Too hard to hit the upper corners of the display with one hand.

And don't tell me I am holding it wrong.

"Guys - you know that iPhone, the one that's so wide you have to operate it with two hands?"

"Yeah?"

"Let's make it even wider!"
iPhone is starting to look more like micro iPad mini than a phone..

You will need two hands to hold this one and cargo pockets..
The phone won't be any larger.... it's a wrap around screen in the mock up, and that's what's rumored. Did you read the article?
[doublepost=1483034099][/doublepost]
thinner AND wider! lol

I know this goes against the conventions of a successful upsell marketing ploy by Apple, but it would be nice if one wasn't given an option between a three-year-old design (7s) with minor changes and a larger, more expensive "iPhone 8/Pro" if we want a new design with a OLED display and perhaps a few other specs exclusive to the new upsell king. It would be a shame if the smaller iPhone officially became the "trickle-down" model, where even a new design took a year or two to trickle down to it. A lot of people are holding on to their 6/6s models in the hope that they will be getting a new redesigned iPhone in the size they want in 2017.

Anyone else noticing people leaving Apple lately?

After the iPhone 7 and the new MacBook Pro release I've already seen several friends and colleagues switch to windows and android.

I myself bought a Dell XPS 15 laptop instead of the new MacBook.

Now I'm considering getting the OnePLus and leaving Apple for good

.

The nest iPhone will come in 5" and 5.8" displays, will be bezel-less, no wrap around displays or anything like that, and only the larger model (7s Plus) will be OLED, remember this comment!

Close. I would go as far as to say that both the 5" & 5.8" will be OLED. I can see the following lineup for 2017

iPhone "8" (5.0" / 5.8" OLED)
iPhone 7 / 7 Plus
iPhone 6s
iPhone SE
