seriously?!, some of the people on here, there isn't any kind of war, any kind of massive hatred between the companies, a lot of the big people in these companies were friends, yes they were competiters and rivals even but that doesn't mean they hated each other, Bill Gates always refers to Steve Jobs as a friend, in interviews you can tell each had a mutual respect for the other, it just seems to be a small minority of the fans that seem to be convinced every other brand except the one they support is evil and money grabbing etc etc and obviously the two companies must hate each other and the fans act like it is a war when in reality it is just the fans making it into something its not.

a lot of google employees worked for apple and a lot of them I expect are just as affected by Steve's death , and personally I think delaying the announcement is not going to be benefical to google or samsing, the Nexus Prime looks like a very strong phone to go against the iPhone and really most people wouldn't have been bothered about them announcing it as it was already a preplanned event , it wasn't like they decided to announce it as soon as they heard he had died...

No, they didn't delayed it, they released the original 10.1 and then released the 10.1 Slim.

It's hardly the first time you're wrong

Well you are wrong now (as usual), they never actually sold the first model.

I don't like the iPhone notifications, ugly blue window...... and I don't like the "Multitasking", which is no real Multitasking. Two more points for Android, and another one for the widgets!!

While this is a classy move by samsung and google, it is not a business smart move. I was waiting to see what the new nexus offered and when it would be available but now since it is not going to be announced, the iphone 4s will be out first without any knowledge of the nexus, therefore I will be getting the iphone 4s as well as a lot of others who may be considering the new nexus.

Which is exactly why they delayed the announcement. To not steal Apple's thunder. We already know what the Nexus Prime will be mostly, the Samsung Galaxy S II HD with a couple of extra goodies.

They knew very well this was not a business smart move, they just didn't feel the business smart move was appropriate in light of Steve's death.

ofcourse, because without Steve Job there wouldn't be android "touch" OS and samsung tablets. I mean Steve opened a whole new market for everybody, therefore Samsung making tons of money selling tablets. The delay is ways of saying they repect Steve for bringing food to their table and in other hand they have more time refine the android OS before update.

All the while the "respect" goes on, in a lab in Korea...

Samsung updates the Nexus Prime to actually have a chance of matching the specs of the 4S (e.g. better camera)

Nope - Samsung has already started manufacturing Nexus Prime. If anything Google is furiously trying to update Google Voice commands to match Siri...

No, they did. They sold it as the Galaxy Tab 10.1V :

He's right.

Google Voice is not a Siri like service. It's a centralized SMS/VoiceMail/Number that spawns multiple device and is usuable by any web connected device.

Steve revolutionised film, he revolutionised music, he revolutionised computing, he revolutionised the way we listen to music, the way we browse the net, Steve literally touched all of our lives in the case of many people without them even realising it, hardly anyone I have spoken to this last couple of days knew that Steve was the man behind Toy Story and cars, hardly anyone I know knew that we would all be entering command prompts today but for Steve, hardly anyone knew that the internet was created on one of Steve's computers.

What Steve did was capitalize of the prevailing notion in our society of materialism, quantity over quality, and greed. He did it very well though.

Some may argue that by popularizing the mp3, Apple lead to the degradation and zealous mass consumption of music. No longer does one buy an album and listen to it while reading the sleeve. What we do now is pirate, not 1 album to enjoy for a few months, but multiple albums that we just half-listen to then throw away onto a hard drive. And who wants 13 high-fidelity lossless songs when one can have 130 lower quality ones. We used to wait 3-5 years between hardware purchases. Now, we can't even wait for 5 days to have our beloved iPhones shipped to us. Then, we will sit by ourselves using it day and night, while we ignore our families around us.

So, I don't know if Apple's intentions were so pure. I don't know if it is human nature that has lead us to lead our iLives or whether Apple prayed upon our very human weaknesses.

Honestly, I think it is a business smart move and it would be very foolish to announce it the same week as Job's funeral. Announcing it when people are still focusing on Steve Jobs will get your product ignored as people are too busy focusing on the news about Job's funeral (or worse, people being sentimental towards Jobs will be viewing the iPhone more favorably cause it's associated with a guy they are upset died when you decide to show them your phone. They are going to be biased towards the iPhone at the time).

It may not be good to delay it either, but it is better than announcing it when people are still focusing on the guy associated with your rival product's death. At this point, it could just be bad timing for them but they are making the best of it.

And they will get some good PR by saying they are doing this out of respect (Whether that be true or not).

bravo!
Steves biography is a must read!

You people need to turn even a thread like this into a damn specwar. Utterly unbelievable. Actually, very believable. Pathetic.

It was perfect timing before he died though. Announce after pre-orders but before it's too late to cancel those pre-orders, making Apple work twice as hard (taking and then cancelling the pre-order) while stealing their launch thunder.

Bzz wrong again, not "mostly" through Vodafone. It was a Vodafone exclusive (that's what the V stands for). So made but not sold by Samsung.

No, he's right, you're just trying to spin it. It's ok that you didn't know about the Tab 10.1V. It was still sold by Samsung to Vodafone, so Samsung did sell it.

Just to expand on point 2 since I know he will use it to go "OMG LOL ANDROID IS TEH SUXORZ U NEED A 3RD PARTY APP TO STORE APPS ON THE SD CARD", since either Android 2.2 or 2.3 (can't remember which) you can move apps to the SD card without a 3rd party app, it's built into the OS.

2.2 is your answer.
As for the people looking for a reason to bash Google and Samsung over this delay are showing they are blind fanboys and as such completely loss there ability to think for themselves.

:D:D:D:D:D

You're joking, no? You don't really are saying that I was wrong because it was never sold and now saying that I'm wrong because it was sold.

Ps. Still waiting those Nokia lawsuits, do you have any news about them?

You're on Macrumors, there's no way some people here will admit Google or Samsung or Adobe or any other Apple competitor can do something positive. It's always negative and Apple is always better with a few people here.

So you're basing this "Prime destroys the iPhone 4S" based on a rumor?

Am I missing something?

Also, it's how the software integrates and utilizes the hardware that matters, not numbers.

^This.

Yes, on paper the Android phones have bragging rights and that seems to be all the Android manufacturers care about. The only the way they are able to complete with the iPhone is on sheer volume. It's all about quantity, flooding the market with Android phones. There is a good reason why people prefer iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS phones over Android phones, because of user experience with the iPhone. Unfortunately, Google and the Android handset manufactures still have no clue how to accomplish that. The geeks that tout hardware specs are not the target audience for Apple. I have stated this before but it is worth stating again, I would rather buy a product from a company that I know will be supported software wise down the road. I think it is very impressive that the 2+ year old iPhone 3GS will run iOS 5. How many 2+ year old Android phones will be able to run Ice Cream Sandwich? I doubt a single one will. I use Android phones at work every day, including the latest ones as well as the iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4.

That's great PR for both companies, especially since Samsung is in a patent dispute with Apple.

I'm sorry, but people pirated before Jobs made iTunes popular. I would argue Jobs made the mp3 actually be more profitable for the music industry and actually cause less pirating cause he made it easier to just buy the song than pirate it. (Oh, and I corrected your spelling cause I think you meant now, not know. Two entirely different meanings and if you did mean "know" I'm kinda confused by that sentence).

By showing them how to make money, he made them at least more open and now we have several services that have been able to make deals to offer us different ways of listening to our music on our computer instead.

I will agree about the people don't listen to albums anymore, just individual songs. But honestly, in some ways for the consumer that is good. There were just way too many bands that would put out some good songs but you had to buy a lot of the crap songs too to get those good songs. And for the bands that still want to actually do a good theme album, you still can buy albums for those that really care to listen to music that way and pay attention to bands that really do try to make a more complete listening experience (but many bands don't really).

As I said in the other thread, this is a great spin put on by their PR departments, I have a strong feeling Google and Samsung don't want their "announcement" to be eclipsed by all the Steve Jobs hoopla that's going on..

This.

They gain PR for the move, and their announcement doesn't get buried. Better to wait a month, and still have it in consumer's hands before Christmas.

They might have also needed to change their marketing materials in light of Job's death.

Oh, I agree there. And Apple putting out a phone that had news articles saying how disappointing it was (even though I personally think it was perfectly expected and a perfectly fine phone and I'd upgrade to it if I could justify it from my 4 even) would have really helped them with that timing too (announce the phone after people are disappointed with the competition? That would so kill it!).

As morbid as it sounds/is, Jobs dieing in a way probably helped Apple here by either delaying their announcement or if they didn't delay it, overshadowing it.

Wow. Class.

It's great to see someone stop and admit it. Damn, this hurts.

I thought I would've gotten over the down feeling in a day, I'm usually pretty quick as a man. But like so many others, for someone I didn't know at all, Steve's passing is not something small. This man changed the world.

They just earned themselves a little more respect in my book. You've got to give it to get it.

I know exactly how you feel. It's been a couple days, but I'm still really torn up about it. I looked at Steve Jobs as a hero and a visionary when I was a freaking kid, way before it was cool to think he was cool. I've never met the man, but to be alive during a time when a man existed who literally changed so much for so many, it gets to you.

I thought I had a grip on it until this morning when I watched last night's episodes of the Daily Show and Colbert Report on their websites. Each show had a touching moment, but Colbert actually made me cry like a little baby. I'm a big, tall gym rat who has never cried for a public figure dying, and I couldn't stop when I saw it.

Watch it, I dare you.

Not long after Steve's funeral the media will be all about record iPhone sales and then all the publicity of Steve's book so the media obsession with Steve won't die down for a few weeks yet
