The point of contention is company's ability to pick original names (which iPhone was not) not the licensing.

Cisco basically squatted the name in the first place.

If Google licenses the name wil it be like the Apple's case?

Yes. Yes, it will.

Let's see... obvious name squatting for obvious Apple product name vs obscure combination of obscure names. Who here was not calling it an iPhone before Apple even confirmed it existed? And did you check Cisco's ownership?

sorry but that is just stupid pointless bashing.

Tell me some information about the number 3.
First it is a prime number
It is the lowest prime number that is not even.
while the number 2 is prime it is also even. it is the odd ball prime number.
But then again all you want to do is bash.

Yap, in 1996, IPhone was a obvious name for an Apple product

This was a class move, with a bit of a PR spin since it has marketing advantages too.

I'm sure there were a few zingers at Apple in their planned product introduction -- zingers which would fall on a very unsympathetic audience in the wake of Steve's death. I'm sure they want time to rethink their presentation. I'm sure they could have rethought their presentation before the event, but why not wait? It's kind of hard to rally up a wave of press for your new phone and operating system in the wake of all the Steve Jobs tributes.

It made sense to delay for marketing reasons, but also in reverence and respect to their top competitor (and mentor to Google founders). Google and Samsung did the right thing on both counts. Class move while giving their marketing machine a better shot at blowing the trumpet and having it heard.

I'm sure we will see the introduction in early November at the latest since it needs to be made before the Christmas shopping season.

Ultra Thin--4S the same
4.65-inch Super AMOLED screen--a few pixels don't mean much

4G LTE Radio Ready--Have fun with that 2GB cap
1gb of RAM- Android needs that much
1.5 GHz Dual Core Processor--The A5 smokes that
1080p HD Video- 4S has the same
2 and 8 mp Camera- 4S has the same
Wifi IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n--4S has the same

Damned if they did and damned if they don't for the apple fans here I guess.

If they went ahead - many on here would rip them apart for bashing apple and/or steve at a sensitive time

If they take a back seat and pause they are clearly worried about e 4s and/or trying to wait out the glut of news on apple and Jobs

It's rather sad how some people react on here with pure textbook paranoia.

This is not respect - it's politics and PR.

Agreed, of course this is politics.

The fact is the world right now is watching Apple, and how it will continue after the loss of its inspirational leader.

Any announcements about phones from other companies would have been lost in a sea of indifference, plus it makes them seem caring too.

Those that think this is some truly altruistic move are being gullible and naive.

It still applaud it though.
