For those that don't understand marketing, advertising, and competing in sales. You market and advertise on your current offering, not on your next model. I know, it's shocking for some.

I am reminded of the story of the boy who cried wolf.

Given that Samsung has a history of doing this, is there anyone who even believes their claims anymore?

Maybe it helps their sales in the short run, but the price is their credibility and brand image in the long run.

There’s just no coherent or unifying theme when it comes to them trying to communicate the vision underlying their products.

Samsung and most Androids at least have been using USB-C for several generations now. So chances are if you are an android phone users you have USB-C chargers.

Apple told everyone to use their old chargers, which most people have USB-A versions, and they provided a USB-C cable in the box. LOL.
I’m not following. Why can’t people just use the old cable too if they use old charger? :)

Which isn’t what Samsung originally communicated.

It’s the same old story at the end of the day. Apple haters criticise Apple for doing something, then move the goalposts in order to justify the competition doing the exact same thing.

Just accept that this will be the way moving forward, we are all in this together, and it’s all for the best.

Even when chargers were included with phones... I was still buying chargers from companies like Anker.

Why? Because of a variety of reasons: they can be more powerful, they can have multiple ports, they can be smaller, etc. There are a lot of great charging solutions out there.

So if I'm buying better chargers from 3rd-parties anyway... I'm fine with the phone manufacturers leaving their large single-port chargers out of the box.

Luckily I already had chargers and cables in all the locations I typically charge my phone... office, kitchen, bedroom, car, etc. So it didn't bother me that my iPhone 12 Pro Max didn't come with a charger.

Of course there's the opposite take: "I just paid $1,200 for a phone and it didn't have a charger?!?!?"

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Once one company cottons on to a cost saving measure (forget about the environmental argument) the others follow suit quickly. No matter how hypocritical they come across.

If Apple was truly concerned about the environment, they'd stop making totally disposable landfill bound products with quick EOL cycles. Put up of shut up where it counts. Sure, you couldn't upgrade camera systems or processors to make a phone faster, but you could have a memory slot. Same with Mac computers with soldered on memory and SSDs. This screams, "WE DON'T CARE ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENT!" no matter what little minuscule little press releases you do to in reality just save a buck.

Well at least they removed it and didn't stick to their PR message for being afraid of being called a hypocrite. Charger should be removed from all phones and people should buy it separately. Good on them for removing it despite the incoming bashing by the community.

No one needs to start a large charging brick collection because they upgrade often. No one.
But the only issue is that a MagSafe charger requires a USB C adapter, and most iPhone owners don’t have one.

I wish Apple was a bit more into pranks, a ‘let’s see what stupid things we can get the competition to’ sort of vibe.
Obviously just in the spirit of a good natured rib as opposed to something malicious

Yes! Apple should start a rumor right now that the next iPhone will not have a sleep/power on/off button. And watch Samsung's next phone released not having one.

Magsafe is an advertised feature but you can easily charge a phone with the old adaptor and cable. Of course if someone is buying their first phone and genuinely doesn't have any USB adaptors no included charger is a bit of a pain. Easy enough to buy one but it's an extra cost that someone has to pay and an easy profit for the retailer. Some buyers will go the route of buying the cheapest charger they can get which can be a potential safety hazard.

"Environmental concerns" is just a virtuous corporate veneer for "let's make more money by forcing everyone to buy everything separately now."

I think most iPhone owners have a computer that have a USB-C port which MagSafe can be plugged into. If that's too inconvenient or if buying a $10-20 USB-C charger is too much, MagSafe isn't for them and they can continue using the 5W + lighting cable that they currently have.

To quote some haters. “Pathetic, such cheapskates”. This really is pretty funny. Just like the headphone Jack incident. You gotta learn who you can trust. And who is just a troll

if you want, Apple can charge $50 more for an iPhone and force everyone to buy a charger included with the product.

Apple isn't pocketing the profits from the lack of the iPhone 12 charger. They're redirecting the budget towards other areas of the product and are making less profit compared to the iPhone 11 https://9to5mac.com/2020/10/14/ipho...gins-despite-removing-headphones-and-charger/

Not to mention all the USB ports on power outlets, power strips.........

Redirecting the money means they don't need to spend additional money from their pockets, meaning they get to keep more. There are certainly all kinds of way to spin it, but it's still just spin on the same thing.

Not sure that's necessarily the case.

You're so clever. If you have an existing charger with an existing cable, you use them. If you switch from an Android phone that had a USB-C charger with a different cable, you use the cable in the Apple box to use the Android charger. Or if you want to use your MacBook USB-C charger. Or if you have an Anker multi-port charger.

Apple has a lot of great products and makes a lot of great decisions, but then they do things like removal of the headphone jack, The Notch, and now no more included chargers which really suck. And there's no escaping it because they're the status symbol market leader so everyone will follow suit.

At least this one has a chance for a law suit because most phones that catch on fire are due to sketchy third party chargers, which will conveniently be all over the place when the manufacturers don't include one for free.

WOW! Major attempt at protecting Samsung by doing forum pre-damage control. SMH.
