Have to admit it. The idea of sliding in an SD card with data/music/ etc, freely is a temptation. SD prices have come down
the last year to where a 128 or 256 SD card is worth it. If Apple were smart, this is what they would do with the iPad. If it means upsetting Hollywood and the stranglehold on iTunes, then so be it. That would really increase sales within the iPad spectrum.

Data on removable media in today's world where the FBI, NSA and local police are all salivating at the easiest ways to violate my privacy??? No thanks.

That's like saying iphone6 is iphone1 v6. Seriously how significant of a change can a phone have over a period of a year?

More appropriately, it's like saying the iPhone 6s is an iPhone 6s. Meaning that it's an improved version of the iPhone 6, not an entirely new phone.

That said... does it matter if Samsung calls it the S7 or the (gag) S6S? It's readily apparent that it is an improved iteration of the S6. And with rare exceptions (usually from companies not named Apple or Samsung), how many drastic changes are we really seeing in the smartphone industry these days? Every year we essentially see increasingly refined versions of what we already have. I'm completely fine with that- people always ask me what kind of phone they should get, and that used to be a complicated question to answer. These days, I can pretty much tell people to get whatever they want, because it will be more than good enough for their needs.

One day, something or someone will turn the industry on its head, just as the iPhone did almost nine years ago. Until then, let's try to appreciate the amazing devices we already have, stale as they might sometimes seem.

water resistant...and I would be....especially if i want to take picture where it's gonna be wet...or raining day.
Precisely!

Besides insurance companies list dropping a phone in the toilet as the second most frequent accident. The new 7 series Galaxy will withstand that easily. A big improvement. Saving money.

All joking aside, I'd love to have a waterproof, dust proof, rugged phone that didn't need a case but gave the protection of a Lifeproof Fre, etc.
Same here. I go hiking and spend time outdoors. waterproofing really helps for those just in case moments. I cross streams and creeks..and take my sons fishing all the time. When in those kinds of areas with breathtaking scenery, it's nice to know i can shot a few pics and not worry about it getting wet or rained on.

Zuck in the event surprised me... I'm all for exciting new tech like VR going mainstream. Apple needs to step it up.. but are they? No. They are worried about making the phone thinner and getting rid of the headphone jack. Fail. SMH

During raining day, do you have to cover your iphone(s) to protect it from getting wet? LOL...i do..i have to wear cargo pocket pants.

Mark Zuckerberg was the Galaxy S7 of the event, lmao.
I should be thankful that MICHAEL BAY didn't become the even of the s7. GEEZ haha. He just walked off...remember?

I got person to remind you....MICHAEL BAY. LOL...but yeah...apple to step up.
We are at the point where point know what they need...and will be looking for something that will fulfill our needs/wants.

Samsung runs out of idea to copy, so they do like they did before: spec race that matters little:

1) 4GB RAM: as usual, Android always has more memory but performance is always laggy. memory leak, unpolished app are always hunger for more RAM.

2) expandable storage: after 6 years of using internal storage, I am not sure if I ever need external storage. Some power user might need it. external memory is much slower than internal memory. external memory is not big of a deal to majority of people. that was why Samsung remove it for a while.

3) Larger battery: this one is a good one. but android is so inefficient that it would last the same amount of time as iphone with smaller battery.

4) Samsung's TouchWiz: number one reason I don't want samsung phone. it is a Samsung skin that delays Android update and drags performance. on top of this skin, you have to wait on carrier to allow update android.

5) water resistant: nice to have

at least this keeps apple competitive. that is a good thing.

Glad to see Samsung has some dignity and didn't auto copy/paste the 3d touch screen I think they did a pretty good job with the update honestly. Its more of an "S" like update than a whole new generation of phone and they included some great new features especially the waterproofing. I'm sure the camera will be top notch they would not just throw away one of the best cameras on the market for something inferior because its slimmer. The Oled screen again is amazing I use it on my work phone (Lumia 950 XL) and I would LOVE to see apple finally make a move towards it going back to an LCD can never be the same after you experience OLED.

Expandable storage is great for really heavy power users that are data insatiable with massive amounts of stuff they must have. Personally 128 GB is great for me and Id rather pay a premium for a bigger internal option than use SD cards. No matter which card you use you will never get close to the read/write performance of internal flash memory. On my Microsoft Lumia 950 XL I have a 64 GB sandisk extreme pro SD card that is Class 10, UHS Speed Class 3 rating currently the fastest available and the biggest size is 64GB(this speed is basically necessary for 4K videos). The problem lies in people filling the phone with media than using the card for apps which then load up significantly slower and have more potential for crashing in my experience. Still a great option to have for people that really need it with massive libraries/work flow that know how to manage it correctly like apps/important media on internal memory and extra media/documents on SD card. Its just not for me I would rather have blazing fast NVME internal flash for everything. That is another thing I wonder if Samsung used internal NVME memory on the phone since the 6S was the only phone on the market with it.

If I was in the android ecosystem my money would go to the LG G5 hands down no question. It has the same processor, same 4 GB of RAM, same expandable memory, addition of removable battery, similar OLED screen (LG makes the best OLED TV's in the world) and the stand out feature of modularity. I can not wait to see what LG and third parties release for it this has HUGE potential IMO.

I would like to have a phone that didn't need a case. It should be drop tested to 6 feet or whatever the spec is and the screen shouldn't break. It should be water and dust proof and the screen shouldn't scratch easily in a less than ideal environment. I'm thinking of people who work outdoors, landscapers, laborers, mechanics, equipment operators, paving crews etc. People who could ruin a phone in their pocket from sweating on a 95 degree day.

Great points! They do have the Samsung Active but it was an exclusive to AT&T. Like to see an Active model for all the carriers.

And you will void your warranty and samsungpay won't work.
Knowledge is a great thing. Before the 6splus I had years of android, everyone rooted. 3 were still replaced. Just don't be a smart ass when ya bring it in and they will swap it out
Sammy pay is a minor loss for all the freedom in trade

Comments like this reveal how little you actually know about the new S7.

You don't have to like it, but participating by posting and being critical about a phone you lack knowledge of, reflects poorly on you.

Please enlighten me. There are slight ergonomic changes, updated chipset, slightly larger battery, slightly improved camera, same amount of ram and they added back a feature they never should have removed in microSD storage. What am I missing?

This reminds me of iPhone S iteration type of improvements. S6 edge+ users will have trouble differentiating the two.
