I would like to have a phone that didn't need a case. It should be drop tested to 6 feet or whatever the spec is and the screen shouldn't break. It should be water and dust proof and the screen shouldn't scratch easily in a less than ideal environment. I'm thinking of people who work outdoors, landscapers, laborers, mechanics, equipment operators, paving crews etc. People who could ruin a phone in their pocket from sweating on a 95 degree day.

I believe they have rugged versions of these.. they are bit bulky.. Moto turbo2 has a shatterproof phone if dropped from 5' but not sure how it would survive in more hostile environments. In any case, I'm glad Samsung has brought this back.. this is a good thing since Apple will feel like they need to do that do.. Competition is good!

Great points! They do have the Samsung Active but it was an exclusive to AT&T. Like to see an Active model for all the carriers.

A lot of people work outside and in less than ideal conditions, answering the phone with dirty hands, working in a dirty or dusty environment. I would like to see Apple offer something like this too.

Glad to see Samsung has some dignity and didn't auto copy/paste the 3d touch screen I think they did a pretty good job with the update honestly.

don't be proud too quickly. Samsung did not enough time to implement this 3D feature, which require both hardware and software updates (Android os and Samsung TouchWiz).

The next Galaxy will have this feature 99.9%

But even the iPhone becomes bulky when you put it in a case that will protect it under these conditions. I would think that with the tech available a rugged phone could be built that wouldn't be any bulkier than a phone in a case, but who knows?

Not yet. But they will care once the iphone gets ip68 rating.

Lol. That's so true. And then they will then claim Apple is the first to come up with this.

Perhaps in a few more years. Moto turbo is onto something.. I'm sure in a couple of years, the screen can become even more rugged w/o the need for a bulky case, etc. It's just a matter of time.

I love all the planted Samsung responses to this article- first to comment, about how amazing this phone is.

Here let me try one of those planted Samsung responses:

"Oh it looks like it bye bye for Apple new Galaxy is so sweet! Edge wrap screen is original feature why Apple not do it? Sorry Apple not creative! When deposit Galaxy?"

How was that?

So far, this has been one of the best threads about a competing product, lots of good points and ideas discussed. I have a feeling that when the Monday day shift arrives, it will go spiraling down the rabbit hole.

Again, there are pills and therapy available.

Agreed.. I think it's good for people to have an open mind about tech. I'm agnostic about brands and just want a product that works for me.. This blind devotion crap that people have is dumb.

Nice find but this is only for the International version. US versions gets the one from Qualcomm. wondering how the US version will stack up.
Benchmarks make for interesting reading.

But using two sources for chips is something Samsung's done before to satisfy demand for their phones. I've purposely bought an International Galaxy and the identical model for the USA, just to compare and then resell.

Day to day heavy usage reveals no discernable difference. A fact backed up by a few experts.

I like it all. I like to check out what is the latest and greatest and I will certainly take a look at the new Galaxy's.

There is absolutely no use case for the rounded edge screen. I know a few people with the edge and no one uses it. Having said that - not sure how many people use 3d touch either.

5 people use the rounded edge on the Galaxy and 3 people use 3D touch on the iPhone.

Benchmarks are out. Faster than the iPad Pro in Geekbench! Ha!
Impressive phone. GJ Samsung.

Its not even remotely close to the iPad Pro in single core scores the iPhone 6s is even faster than the s7 in single core scores which are more important IMO for real world useage. The ipad pro scores over 3200 on single score that's over 50% faster. It only beats in in multi core due to 8 cores being used vs 2 cores for the iPad. The AnTuTu score for the new s7 is 127,000 while the iPad Pro has scored over 177,000 again not close at all but not expected as the iPad Pro can shed a lot more heat due to its size and can be bumped with more power due to its battery. Lets not get ahead of ourselves the a9x is a different animal

The new exynos does look very strong though I am surprised Samsung didn't bring it to the US instead of the snap dragon 820 it really doesn't look like it gives up much to the 820 in single core test.

Please enlighten me. There are slight ergonomic changes, updated chipset, slightly larger battery, slightly improved camera, same amount of ram and they added back a feature they never should have removed in microSD storage. What am I missing?

This reminds me of iPhone S iteration type of improvements. S6 edge+ users will have trouble differentiating the two.

They use 2 chips: either snap dragon or Exzynos 8890
http://www.slashgear.com/samsung-galaxy-s7-leak-confirms-exynos-chipset-20423734/

However, I don't know much specific then what was given...just to be fair.

Front camera is 5mp...but I wouldn't know more specific (again) other than it's duel pixel...double the pixel....to be more clear.

If i'm not mistaken..it appears that camera got this low light capability...not sure how much iso it goes up to....making 9pm night time looking 5pm in the afternoon.

Depending on individuals...water resistant, which is limit to ip 68...(it is limit...but at the level of taking shower, raining, going filming at disneyland water ride)... (water proof, which PREVENTS water coming into the device at 100 percent rate)

SD is important for those who love make films...and more ram is great...otherwise..why do we want ipad air 2 to have 2gb ram or 6s?

Sure..it may look like another "update" but is it any different than 6 or 6s?

One of the "coolest" features is with VR gear....people could share experience...if i was at home...and my friends are wearing that gear...i could see what they are seeing.

Water cooling in a phone...pretty sure you wouldn't want to drop that too often. Maybe that's why it's water-resistant. ;)

That is true...international do get exzyno chip...as snapdragon is in us...;however, if one does buy from internation website...we can get exzyno chip. Either way...both are good.
