Definitely yes, this is the flagship product that 'threatens' the iPhone, as a MR user I'm interested in what Apple is going against, and what the competition is, and enjoy discussing it with my fellow MR colleagues ;)

That's the joke here. Apple isn't really having to go against anything. They're the only company that can make iOS phones. That's how they can get away with not offering expandable storage to start with. If they were just another Android maker, LG and HTC would have eaten them for lunch long ago.

Remember when macrumors was about Apple?

Ha. I remember when Macrumors was about Macs.

I really like the look of the edge. I need to check how cases are done on those models. Bringing back expandable storage was a must.

Knowledge is a great thing. Before the 6splus I had years of android, everyone rooted. 3 were still replaced. Just don't be a smart ass when ya bring it in and they will swap it out
Sammy pay is a minor loss for all the freedom in trade

Ur right knowledge is a great thing. So rooting will trip Knox and it voids ur warranty. I've had years of android too before iPhone. And your experience while beneficial to u isn't 100%. And samsungpay while minor to u is/may be a bigger deal to others.

Its not even remotely close to the iPad Pro in single core scores the iPhone 6s is even faster than the s7 in single core scores which are more important IMO for real world useage. The ipad pro scores over 3200 on single score that's over 50% faster. It only beats in in multi core due to 8 cores being used vs 2 cores for the iPad. The AnTuTu score for the new s7 is 127,000 while the iPad Pro has scored over 177,000 again not close at all but not expected as the iPad Pro can shed a lot more heat due to its size and can be bumped with more power due to its battery. Lets not get ahead of ourselves the a9x is a different animal

The new exynos does look very strong though I am surprised Samsung didn't bring it to the US instead of the snap dragon 820 it really doesn't look like it gives up much to the 820 in single core test.

Wait so the s7 isn't wiping the floor with the Apple a9 like people proclaimed? The single core geek bench and antutu scores are lower than the iPhone 6s Plus?

The multi core is impressive. But the single core, no

Exactly As expected with 8 cores which is inefficient for the work load on these mobile devices. Even on full computer OS's more cores only help with specific task like image processing while others like gaming work better with higher clocked quad cores. Intels quad core i7's wipe the floor with AMD's 8 core cpu's and even the big 10+ core intel xeon processors don't help with normal task like gaming/everyday task. Nobody is writing these programs to be efficiently spread out over all these cores and while the OS might spread out threads to other cores the cores with lighter loads/threads will be idling wasting precious clock cycles while waiting for the next instruction cycle. All the available apps/programs will run faster on a dual core processor with wider architecture and blazing single score/respectable multi core performance.

But but teh multi core Sammy is like mini server.

Single core of 2400 for the 6s and 2100 for the S7

AnTuTu score of 132,00 for the 6s and 127,000 for the s7 ... 6 months after the a9 is released

Not everyone listens to lossy-compressed music.
If you're really that desperate to have more music on your phone than you could possibly listen to in one outing then buy a 128GB iPhone. All it does having that much music is to make it more difficult to find what you want.

I believe this is a far better phone compared to iPhone....but......
the real value of Apple is the quality and quantity of services that make me work with my iPad and Macbook(s) all connected and beyond. Sometimes I need to work with my iPad, I mean, I need a really good tablet. The problem with Samsung is that with Android devices I don't have a real good tablet to work with and they don't have the same good synergy with PCs that Apple has with iOS and OSx devices. This is the main reason that makes me keep on Apple devices. If I buy a Galaxy I just have a phone.

First off, the obvious: These are really, really great phones. Do they give Apple a run for its money to the average consumer? Of course.

As an Apple fanboy currently on a 6, and looking for a 7+ this Fall, it does bother me that the 6S+ is so damn MASSIVE and all I'm reading about this 5.5 inch S7 is that it's a pleasure to hold, can be comfortably used with one hand, and is highly pocketable.

Come on Apple, please step it up this Fall. We need a game-changer.

Why not tell us about your Galaxy S6 and what you didn't like about it. Unless you're just spreading fud as usual.

I have tried Samsung phones twice. Once with Galaxy S3 and once with Galaxy S5! On both occasions I have run on the same identical issues. battery getting super hot and draining quickly, and the screen freezing up. Particularly with the S5, when the phone would freeze up just as I receive a call leaving me with no option to answer the thing. Another issue is often the display would not wake up for 10 to 40 seconds. Not sure if I was simply unlucky but I been told by others who have similar issues. And dealing with Samsung customer service is plain pain. From all this years I only had one issue with iPhone 6. It went crazy hot last August and after 30 minutes it won't switch on at all. Send it to Apple store, got it replaced with a brand new one on a mater of 10 minutes.

That all being said, I love the design on the Edge. Is definitely more beautiful then the iPhone 6/6s IMO.

Are you talking about like cloud based "eco system?" If so, I believe samsung have apps that allow you to continue working on it....

Wow, the 5.1 inch model which is very close to the size of the 4.7 inch 6s, has a 3000mah battery, and the phone is only .6mm thicker. For comparison that's about 10% bigger than the battery inside the 6S Plus!

This is from previous generation s6 and how it uses multi 8 core
http://www.androidauthority.com/galaxy-s6-octa-core-processor-usage-617585/

I guess s7 is like mac pro in a way...great for heavy using type.

There is no doubt the OS is spreading threads to all cores but it is not the most efficient way to do this as the apps are not written to specifically be multi threaded and you get times when a core is idling as it has finished its "easier" workload but the other core has not but it can not move on the next cycle until the other is done. It runs more efficiently on the faster/wider dual core since it was natively written for single core performance and that single core can use all its power at once and move on instantly to the next cycle. The test you posted only measures/logs every 6th of a second which is nowhere near the precision you need to accurately measure these things. I mean you know the processor is 2.1ghz or 2.1 Billion cycles per second ! Measuring every 6th of a second is nowhere close of course it looks like they are always on and spread out at these intervals.

The s7 is nothing like a mac pro because you are not doing anything nearly as cpu intensive on a mobile phone compared to a pro level workstation. Not to mention even the mac pro and its huge 12+ core xeons are over kill for most users and can be slower for gaming compared to high end overclocked top line i7's. They are only useful for massive parallel processing.

Speaking as a developer myself. I would say that iOS is actually better than Android for the past 3 years or so. Far more stable, secure, faster, etc.

Waving the 'I'm a developer' doesn't make your opinion anymore factual than someone else's.
...I don't recall saying that my status as a developer did make my opinion more factual than anyone else's, especially considering the fact that this is entirely opinion based. I doubt you actually own a new generation Android device, because the latest generation really leaves iOS in the dust. It's mostly a matter of opinion. But most of the common complaints about Android are completely unwarranted in the latest devices. If anything, there are far more shortcomings to be found in iOS. IOS is far too restrictive (no file access, iCloud is still realllllly buggy, no torrent apps, apps cannot get access to hardware so you can't use apps like wifi analysis, and many more). The sandbox has its benefits for unskilled users, but for techies it's really just a useless hassle.

I bought a Samsung tablet recently and it really is better than the iPad in almost every way. Same with the S7, it essentially destroys every advantage the iPhone had (except force touch, which is a huge gimmick).

Here's a classic example. Coding. I was recently on a road trip and got bored, and wanted to try something in C++. Wrote, compiled and ran the program all on my android tablet. Good luck doing stuff like that in iOS. I've owned nothing but iPhones since the very first back in 2007, and it really saddens me to say it, but the flexibility and capability of iOS compared to the competition is worse than I've ever seen it.

That's the only possible scenario I can think of on a mobile device but then the GPU is just as important if not more important for photo/video and the A9 GPU was head and shoulders above the others. I would like to see how the new s7 gpu compares (off screen test since the iPhone will have advantage on screen test due to lower resolution screen of the 6s plus). I just never felt the need to edit photos on a 5.5 inch screen when I can do it on a much bigger/faster computer but it is certainly possible for some one on the go to show a preview.

I'm curious... How do you describe yourself...performance as in speed like or functionality as in it works?

This is the problem with Android - too much choice and multiple releases throughout the year. I've been wanting to upgrade for several months, but each new phone has some bits I like, some bits I don't, so I seem to just keep waiting.

At least with Apple there's either the big one or the huge one. And that's it.
