I have never liked samsung devices (touchwiz is pretty horrible, they seem to be able to have the fastest phones on the planet that still lags the most, and so on). But I got to give it to them, this is a pretty solid update. They had one of the best cameras of 2015, and seem to have improved it a lot. More battery, expandable storage, and pretty much everything else their users asked for. Way to listen to customers Samsung, I hope Apple will do the same.

Probably won't pick up an S7 (although it's tempting), but if nothing else it will push both apple and other manufacturers to produce awesome new phones. So good job Samsung.

So you guys feel safe with Apple's rumored "wireless" power will be all over the air? Interesting. I personally find inductive charging very convenient, and it seems Apple agrees, otherwise there wouldn't be an Apple watch pad, would it?

I think Samsung do make excellent phones, especially when it comes to on paper specs.
The only major downfall on the S6 is the feel of the device in the hand. It just doesn't feel as well made as the iPhone.
For the first time since the original iPhone I'm seriously considering an S7 unless Apple really pull something out of the bag with the iPhone 7.
I've stuck with my iPhone 5 that I bought on launch day. I picked up an iPhone 6 on launch but took it back, it didn't justify the cost for me.
I find the iOS music app a chore to use now, it seems less intuitive to use now than ever.
Removing the option to play all songs by an artist in alphabetical order (iOS 7) and now when a song is selected as repeat one you can't skip to the next song without taking repeat off, unlike before.
Apple music dominates the music app pushing aside controls that are useful for those of us who aren't an Apple Music subscriber.
If the iPhone 7 starts at 16gb and has no stand out features apart from spec bumps and a new design then I will depart from iPhone.
For me there's been a stagnation on innovations for my needs on iOS devices.
My iPad 3 and iPhone 5 both bought when new are still excellent devices.
I really hope that Apple come up with some great innovations come September.

Samsung went the Apple route with memory and it did not work. They listened to the complaints about no sd card slot and small battery. Samsung fixed those 2 issues with the S7.
When Apple removes the headphone jack and hears the complaints will Apple listen? I don't think so. They still make 16GB flagship phones.
[doublepost=1456131077][/doublepost]

Actually Apple is about to announce a smaller phone so that makes 3. And Apple has 3 tablet sizes. And choosing a Android OEM is not difficult. If you want stock and timely updates get a Nexus. If you want a feature packed phone look at Samsung. HTC is basically dead, Motorola is nothing special and LG took a step back with the G5. And don't even consider a Sony phone.

Nexus 5X looks cheap.
Nexus 6P had nice specs and metal body, but is too big for me and very ugly
Samsung phones have expandable storage and look good, but I don't like touch wiz.
The G5 looks good, is metal, but has odd features and no app drawer.
The Moto is too big.
The Sony phones look dull and don't get good reviews.

So I'm left still waiting.

Let me rephrase. Samsung don't make the software. Apple and now Microsoft are showing how much better products are when the company designs both the hardware and software. Samsung has some control over the software probably but they don't make it which means their product will always have a hard time working as well as the iPhone.

For example, how could Samsung ever do something like 3D Touch? Not possible for them because they need the software as well.

No I don't admit that at all. I don't need any of the gimmicks that the S7 has. I need a phone that works well.

I didn't even think about that. Maybe Samsung couldn't get 3D Touch working well enough for this generation. I know huauwei has a version of 3D Touch but it's very limited compared to apples version.

Same can be said for storage on most cameras. And they get stolen all the time.

However, if it's a big deal to you, simply turn on SD card encryption.

Yeah, carry around pictures is the same as carry around documents and private information of various files ;);)o_O:confused:....

Yes, you can encrypt the files but I don't have any issue with "just" 128gig of starage. Real professional work is something I do on laptops anyway and watching movies using a projector not a small smartphone screen. Storage is so overhyped. I've got a 128 gig iPhone and with all the picture albums on it and with acces to enormous amount of music i'm still unable to get it filled.

Movies that I take will be transported to the cloud and back to my desktop computer, once stored I erase it from the cloud and there you go, no issues with lack of space on my device. .
Besides, for serious filming, wich I do as profession I can't make use of any smartphone out there anyway.

I guess that these SD cards are handy for some but the lack of it doesn't disturb me at all in my professional daily work.

Pretty much agree, LG dropped the ball this year. HTC is rumored to have some pretty nice stuff this year, really hope it's better than the last couple of devices they released. Sony isn't too bad, only company that does a small form factor flagship without compromises and has good cameras, waterproofing and such. Although they usually have some other issues..

Huawei is worth keeping an eye out for. They produced the Nexus 6P that was pretty much the 2015 phone of the year in most polls, and rightly so - it's an awesome phone. They have gone from pretty much unheard of in the phone area with low budget phones to making one of the best flagship devices in a very short time, so their 2016 releases is definitely worth checking out.

The tech isn't ready in apples eye. And a watch is different than a phone. I'm sure if/when Apple goes true wireless charging it'll charge all iOS/watch os devices compatible. iPhone/iPad/aw.

It's not pointless, there is so much wrong with your post I'm not sure where to start. First of all, people keep assuming that in order to have inductive charging you need to give up a cable, this is not true, look at Samsung's phone you can use inductive charging or cable, your choice ;)

Secondly, why does Apple offer an iPhone dock? For convenience right? Well with inductive charging it'd be even more convenient, same as the Apple Watch pad.

Third, inductive charging would be awesome on car mounts, you could dock your car in your car and use it as GPS etc, less cable clutter and much more convenient.

Fourth, even if Apple does 'true' wireless technology, you'll still need some kind of pad or device that transmits the signal.

No there isn't much wrong with my statement but if you would have read my whole post you wouldn't sound so lost. Once again I have a Lumia 950 XL as a work phone it supports both wireless charging and Usb Type C fast charging. So what would make you think I was under the impression that to have inductive charging you would need to lose the cable when I already have a phone with both? Nothing special there from Samsung keep the wink to yourself

iPhone dock really? Not much convenience with it it's much easier to plug a charger in then stand it on a plug it's there for looks and to show case your phone which I don't need.

You still need your car dock plugged into the cig lighter it's not making power out of thin air so the cable clutter is the same it's just going to the dock not the phone now great job.

Who knows what they have in development but if it's anything like the current wireless charging it's worthless to me. i would much rather plug in my reversible cable that I can do with my eyes closed with my lighting/iPhone or usb-C/Lumia 950. Good luck fumbling with that terrible micro usb can't believe they released a flagship phone this time in 2016 with micro usb. Fandroids to the rescue[/QUOTE]

Ok you don't, but other people may find it useful. Things like Apple watch pad exist for a reason.

Right, but in the case of a car, once you have setup, you never have to deal with cables anymore. You could route cables neatly and have a pad/mount setup. Having to plug cables to my iphone each time I mount it on my iOttie mount in my car is quite annoying.

This phone is giving me dangerous thoughts about switching. I never thought I would, I thought I was too ingrained in Apples ecosystem to be able to move out. If the iPhone 7 doesn't feature wireless or inductive charging, headphone port, and water resistance I fear my iOS days are over.

Free GearVR + Water Resistant + up to 200GB of add in storage.... commmon appple........ Let me iphone allow me to bring all my music with me again...... please!!! I'm tired of all these streaming services.

I mean, how cool would it be to have all your music that you own, with you in your pocket (again).
I do with my iPhone 6 (128gb), but granted 75% of that storage is filled with music. It's very annoying having to pay an additional £100 just to fit your music library onto a phone.

Really wish the iPhone had a memory slot but doubt it will every happen.

So many new things just been announced, wonder if Apple was waiting to see what they can add to the next iPhone later this year?

1) Camera- I'm so confused as to why they go with 1.7f aperture. Put something like 4..and we got camera killer .

Are you serious? A smaller aperture would make a camera killer? Bigger aperture is better for low light. And in case anyone is confused, on photography, bigger aperture is smaller f number and smaller aperture is lager f number.

Wow looks awesome. Wireless charging, waterproof, OLED, expandability, start your copying machines Apple.
Looks OK but frankly, wireless charging in its current form is not all it's cracked up to be.
Also I'd take onboard memory over having to fiddle with microSD cards and flaps any day of the week, and I'm sure a lot of iOS users feel the same way.

I'd take onboard memory any day also, but 16GB in 2016 with such extortionate upgrade pricing is becoming more unacceptable.
16GB as an entry level storage option has been unchanged since 2012.

Has anyone fully realized the ridiculously awesome battery capacity Samsung packed in S7?

S7: 3000 mAh
iPhone 6s: 1810 mAh

To get close to S7, suppose you buy Apple's embarrasing and expensive case, which has an extra 1877, it'd get you in total 3687mAh which is a bit more than samsung's 3000, but you are spending more (ie Apple profits) and making the iPhone more bulky.

MGQM2

It's actually:

S6: 2550mAh
S7: 3000mAh
iPhone 6s: 1715 mAh

But you can't really judge battery life by battery capacity.

The S6 had a worse battery life despite having a battery that's 40% bigger and I still don't think the S7 will beat the 6s' life despite being twice the size.

S6 getting screen on time of 3-4 hours:
http://www.androidauthority.com/galaxy-s6-edge-battery-review-28-days-later-607273/

And there are multiple threads on here showing consistent screen on time on iPhone 6s of 7-8 hours and the 6s+ getting 10+ hours, here's one:

maybe in America where the ancient magnetic strip technology is still in use. In UK Apple Pay rules and Samsung Pay is non existing to my knowledge.
It hasn't launched yet in the UK. Apparently it's coming soon, although I wouldn't hold my breath.

The S7/S7 edge seem like nice phones. However there isn't really anything that could move me away from the iPhone and the apple ecosystem.

The only things I wouldn't mind seeing on the iPhone are the edge features (Won't happen), wireless charging and the always on display.

The iPhone 7/7S + is highly rumoured to be water resistant/proof anyway. They are also going to upgrade the camera in some way. Wireless charging is distant rumour too.

Looks like top notch hardware, however even as an Android user I'm cringing at how they've done exactly what they publicly mock Apple for doing.

"Hey guys we innovated by introducing features we held back in the previous version".

In the UK, NFC has been effectively used for years. Unfortunately in the US it's still in it's infancy. Apple Pay was a great concept, but it was available literally at a handful of companies on launch and probably less than 5% of POS locations. I'd imagine a lot of casual users don't bother using it at the handful of places that accept it because it's sp rare you can actually use it.

Samsung Pay makes Apple Pay feel like the Beta Max of it's day. Arguably a better technology, but unable to gain the market traction of a leading edge product. And if Samsung markets it properly, the pressure will be more on Apple Pay to answer the 'why can't I use it anywhere' question from their consumers.

Amen.

I'd always take onboard storage over a micro SD card. I've had quite a few microSD cards become corrupted for no apparent reason which renders the card useless and the data inaccessible. In addition the only thing that microSD cards are really good for is storing media. You can store apps but not all apps can be stored on the SD card, it's up to the developer. Also even for those apps that can be stored on the SD card, not all the data goes on the SD card, some stays on the phone. So you end up with a very messy situation where some apps are on the phone, some are on the SD card and some are partially on the SD card and partially on the phone.
Also if you lose you phone or your phone gets stolen the SD card goes with it. I once sold a samsung phone. I restored the phone before sending it away but forgot to take out the SD card. Thankfully it didn't have any personal information on it. Just media (music and TV shows).

I'd much rather have my 128GB iPhone 6s plus than another phone with less internal storage and a memory card.

Once Apple announced the iPhone 6 plus with a bigger screen, 1080p and 128 GB of internal storage it was game over for samsung for me. I can't see myself getting another Samsung phone.
