What are you hiding, Samsung?
- The cost of 3G service and availability of carriers?
- Another data plan to worry about?
- 2 to 3 days battery? Really?
- Maybe with 3G, WiFi and Bluetooth turned completely off, so it's no big deal.
- Round display?
For an analog watch, great!
For displaying user data, calendar, emails, etc., not good plus too small!

Nice looking but with poor real use.
It'll cater to the "but my watch can do.." crowd. There are a lot of those around, but not for >$500 prices.
Ability to call from the watch and GPS are often heard wishes in my experience. At first glance i thought "wow" but irl i think it'll be less good :)

The point was to show how much of the display is wasted showing nothing when it's round. You get full use of the display when it's square or rectangular.

And by showing only one example it's supposed to apply to all scenarios? You're not making a very good case against it.

I could say that the Apple watch has a limited display as it has less pixels... which is true.

Wow. The seventh model? Dare I say it, Apple Watch is better yet it's a FIRST generation model?!? The only thing better is the 3G capability but that'll come with Apple Watch 2 hopefully.
Well I dare say your wrong. The apple watch is not better then this. The fact that you don't need your phone makes it a lot better then the apple watch.Plus charges wirelessly, has two to three days of batterylife.
It's great that Samsug continues to update and improve the watch and the phone. Because it makes apple do a better job at updating everything.

This is a small market segment for a particular customer. A couple people I know who received a smart watch as a gift have either put it into the dresser drawer or are asking how to liquidate it.

“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.” -- Joseph Goebbels, Reich Minister of Propaganda in Nazi Germany from 1933 to 1945.
Holy ****, talking about exaggerations.
There's no domination over all media here.

A better fitting quote:
"Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man." The dude.

Is no one even concern over wearing 3G radiation so close to the skin all day. I have an Apple watch and while wi-fi and bluetooth are waay less strength then 3G. Most peoole Know dangoruse 3G radiation is IF its for longer moment. Wearing a 3G radiator all day seems like a verry bad idea

This has been debunked for a while..

Because a 4G phone in a front pocket next to your genitals all day is much safer.

I don't get the desire for a circular watch. Sure, historically watches have been circular (although my previous watch a Tissot was actually square too) but it makes no sense to maintain circular styles for a smart watch.

Does your smartphone bear any resemblance to the original telephone?

It's a waste of screen estate and if you have a digital numerical face it's even more absurd to keep it circular.

I agree totally. While I'm not really an Apple watch fan, I don't think a smart watch has to emulate the roundness of a traditional watch. I do feel the watch needs to more fine jewelry and less captain spaceman. :D

I have to say, it does look a lot nicer and cooler than the Watch

Indeed. Far, far nicer. I hope Apple gets its sh** together and realizes that this is how watches are supposed to look. I'm not buying an Apple watch until they make round faces.

Then you'll lose screen estate.

We lose screen real estate choosing a 38mm Apple Watch over a 42mm version.

That hasn't stopped millions of people from choosing the smaller display.

Much of the Apple watch front is wasted with black bezel borders.

As for "full" use, we do not get that on a rectangular display that is showing an analog watchface, or other round UI elements (see below).

Watches were circular in form due to the hands having a fixed length. Absent that constraint there is no compelling reason for a circular form except a form-factor compromise made for retro style.

Even Apple made much of their core UI round, and only rarely because of the crown. Round is simply aesthetically appealing at times.

In real life, round and rectangular both work fine. For a smartwatch, display shape is more about personal preference.

According to Samsung, the 3G version achieves "up to two days" of battery life (it has a slightly bigger battery than the other models). Apple achieves only half of that, even though they don't have to power the additional 3G radio. Kind of embarrassing.

Not a big fan of the design (although I don't find the Apple Watch very appealing either), but technically Samsung seems to be ahead. I doubt that they'll be able to match Apple's (hopefully soon to appear) app eco-system though, but it remains to be seen how useful watch apps really are. The rotating bezel sounds better than Apple's crown on paper, but we'll have to see how well it works in practice.

Then why are all the round smartwatches so damn huge? As a woman with small wrists, there's no way in hell I would wear a watch that big. People who like round watches are just old-fashioned and resistant to change. That's all. I love that the Watch uses ALL of the screen real estate and has a neutral look that goes with ANY kind of jewelry I want to wear with it. It fits any style a person has and doesn't look douchey like so many luxury watches posers wear.

Jony Ive and his cohorts must be hitting the pub soon to drown their sorrows because there's just no coming back from this knockout punch. 302 ppi, Tizen OS, 1 GHz dual core processor, Samsung Pay, S Health activity tracking dust, IP68 and water resistance. So much win for such a small product. Just look at that gorgeous design. Those Korean designers are something else. That round display is tons more elegant than that iWatch thing. Such a natural display for displaying notifications and text.

This is Korean ingenuity, people. This is Samsung Gear S2.

That's hilarious!
