At least in this release, I don't see round home icons. Go original all the way, samsung. Or risk more to be stamped as copycat. Let's see what you got.

And should you want pay for an additional voice/data plan. I don't.

Personally, for making phone calls, I'd rather use my iPhone - which already has a voice/data plan.

OK - sounds like the concept isn't for you. Meanwhile, T-Mobile announced you will be able to add the 3G watch to a plan for $5/mo. with unlimited talk and text, 500MB of data and no overages. I can see that being worthwhile for a smartwatch worth its salt. Maybe that's not this watch, but I'm into the concept: a watch that's not just an accessory tied to a phone in your pocket.

Why would you stick with rectangular content when your usable area is circular? Text and content can be justified to match any surface shape.

There is another front page post on here with a video that shows apps using a circular UI rather nicely: https://www.macrumors.com/2015/08/31/android-wear-iphone-now-compatible/
The only one that's not a watch face:

In fact, every app shown in that video is sticking to that rectangle.

well.. Apple, looks like u have some competition...

I had a feeling someone would improve a better battery experience than the Apple watch, Thanks to Samsung :)

I like the Classic though. but 3G one is also a winner in my book.

And we all though square was good..... Round is not that bad either.. I bet users would not want to say "no i still prefer the :apple:Watch"
No, as a user I still prefer my Apple Watch.
I wouldn't want 3G on a watch; I use my watch to answer a call while driving or have my hands full but wouldn't care to hold my arm up all the time for a phone call.
I take it that you don't have an Apple Watch..?

I see the addition of AndroidWear smart watches as a good thing to the iOS ecosystem. More varieties and designs and most likely much more creativity will come about because of the limitations they have to deal with. Not a fan at all of the AppleWatch - one design that's very, very boring.

The two bigger models are, but the Classic is not much bigger, if at all:

The larger Apple Watch is 42.5 mm tall x 12.5 mm thick, and 36.4mm wide.

The Gear S2 Classic is 43.6 mm tall x 11.4 mm thick, and 39.9mm wide (it's round). And the tallness includes band lugs, something Apple leaves out of their case dimensions by moving them into the bands (and/or people use third party lug adapters). So it's like 40mm without lugs.

According to Apple, both sizes are 10.5mm thick. In any case the Samsung classic is still bigger than the 38mm Apple watch.

With a circle display, space is even more constrained than the Apple watch. "Not much bigger" is a big difference when talking about something small.
No, like Apple's watch they can't make calls.

You can make calls with an apple watch if your iPhone is near by.

Both watches were still better in battery life then what one would get with the Apple Watch.

Samsung does however need to dump Tizen. That's an automatic failure.

Most people are getting almost 2 days of strong use out of the Apple Watch. So, what's that again battery life, rehashing something that's been shown not to be an issue again?

Unless we know the usage model behind what the hell Samsung is claiming, it means nothing.
Yet, you believe vapor more than what actual Apple Watch users say seemingly.

I think the samsung 3G could be a GAME CHANGER. The apple watch should have been a standalone phone with bluetooth from the get go. If Apple wants you to buy an iPhone so they can sell you a watch and other stuff and protect their iPhone marketshare they will end up like IBM, Microsoft, GM etc. They need to adapt and innovate before the competition or become a dinosaur.

Right... "Game Changer".. Come see me in 6 months when holiday sales are in. I'm pretty sure they'll get their ass kicked hard by the Apple Watch.

You do realize it is their 7th, yes, 7th model and people like you have been clapping wildly at most of them.. You can track the threads of you want. Just imagine being the poor sap who bought those craptastic barely supported turd watches Samsung has foisted onto the world for 2 years straight. Think they're buying this one?

How many thousands of times over the years have people posted this exact same comment?
The answer is, and has always been, that industry news affects Apple, and competition is big news in emerging market segments.
This doesn't affect Apple a tiny bit. The roadmap for smartwatches is pretty much set for the next years (thinner, faster, better connectivity, more sensors). With the hw/sw design choices Apple currently made, a round screen is highly unlikely on the short term list. So basically nothing to see here except for yet another Samsung toy. One of many.

Agreed. That and price are the two big reasons I do not need an Apple Watch.

Tizen... look at least it's not Android. I see benefits in not relying on Google. However, I think Same-song would have a very painful journey if they decided to part ways with Google.

I personally like my Pebble because it doesn't have a full featured OS. The Pebble OS is tiiiny and essentially allows you to share small packets with your phone. As a result, the way I see it:
- Apple gets all the big devs on board because you make more $$$ from apps built for Apple devices.
- Pebble provides an active community of fanatics who make cool little apps. Most are quite simple and don't really require any dev experience.
- Android sells itself as being like Pebble, but in reality is a watered down, not quite as good version of Apple.
- Tizen... is somewhere between Android and Pebble and it lacks purpose/direction as a result.

This only shows that rectangular UI design doesn't fill well on a round screen. Round screens obviously need a round design. Not something Apple couldn't magically create. It's like with the big iPhones. If round screens take off, Apple will at some point likely follow the market and come up with a useful round UI design.

How would one design calendar, notes, reminders, texts, emails (which those 5 things are the main focus of a smart watch) and any other content from 3rd party apps for round displays without just using the center "square" portion. All that kind of content is best suited on square or rectangle displays. Round makes zero sense outside of just a clock. How can text that is normally always justified to the left work with a round edge and not cut off any of the text. It can't.

Is being unveiled this Thursday at the IFA trade show in Berlin..... How exactly did you manager to try one out, to compare to the AW?
I didn't. However, in all seriousness, the 3G capability is great. Apple Watch 2 should have that feature.

If apple watch can make and receive call and facetime by itself, tie to bluetooth earpiece. Contacts sync with iphone. And long battery life. I am buying.
