If the battery life of the new iconx earbuds is really 5 hours of audio playback, I will buy them in a heartbeat. I've been using my Apple Airpods with my Samsung S8+ for a few months now and even though they work well I would like to find a good alternative. There is nothing currently on the market that is nearly as good in this price range.

Before anyone asks, yes I still have an iPhone 6s Plus as my backup phone. I switched over to the Samsung s8+ back when the unlocked version was released. I was able to land the s8+ for a little over $550 band new unlocked from Samsung direct and I'm ok with that. I do miss some features of the Apple device and iOS, the main one being iMessage, but I have learned to live without it. Also, being able to SMS/MMS from any computer I own via a Google Chrome plugin has been extremely awesome. On top of that the S8+ display laughs at my iPhone 6s Plus display and I don't blame it the AMOLED display on the S8+ is just amazing.

I'm an equal opportunity phone user. If Apple impresses at their iPhone event in September I will consider going back. Or replace my 6s Plus with whatever Apple releases for my backup phone.

I find it amusing that the fans of the most feminine-looking devices are complaining about pink headphones...
Pink === Girly is what people are complaining about. It is a gender stereotype dreamed up by marketeers.
None of the women in my life would be seend dead with anything pink on them. My Graddaughter once got something pink for a birthday present. She refused point blank to wear it crying, "I am not Barbie".
She is a very girly girl which proves that you don't need to like Pink to display your feminity.

They ****ing copied the activity rings!!!
Ugghhh... once again, it amazes me how Apple users are unable to imagine that other companies created stuff before Apple even had a smart watch. FYI, Samsung has been using activity rings and ring watch faces since before Apple had a watch. Even the Gear S2 had this in 2015.

But, this is normal. Pretty sure in a couple years time, you guys will be saying that Apple invented curved screens, OLED panels, wireless charging, stylus pens for phones and tablets, wireless headphones, and so on. :eyeroll

Samsung Watches still qualifies as a competitor product to Apple. Especially given that the releasing their LTE version of a Watch weeks before Apple likely is as well. Furthermore, it's also nice to read about other competitor the news on MacRumors versus frequenting other tech sites that report the same things.
???? Samsung has had LTE variants of their Gear watches for a couple of years now.

None of Samsung products can beat Apple product quality. Apple products are simply the best of the best in the planet.
LOL. Gotta assume you are a diehard Apple fan!

I never indicated that they didn't have LTE for a couple years. I indicated Samsung is another watch manufacture that offers LTE, aside from Apple being on the brink offering LTE with the Apple Watch in a few weeks.

I'm not sure I'd go all out and call airpods ugly but they certainly look strange in general. I mean they look like two electric toothbrush heads sticking out of your ears and don't look very good on a lot of people.

Can't say how good or bad the Samsung ones look without seeing them on someone but it looks a lot more normal to me (depending on how big they actually are). Though the mic design I would guess might work better on AirPods.

I was pretty indifferent about AirPods "looks" to begin with. But when I saw them in real life, I felt they looked perfectly all right. Nothing jarring at all.

These Samsung ones look like tumors to me. Last year ones wouldn't sit flush in my ears the way it seemed to for other people. Maybe my ear cavity is small or something. This year ones look like they'd protrude in a lump outside the year. Got to agree with people ridiculing the design.

Or you could just buy a mouse that you can use when charging..

That is form following function..

No, that is just a completely different design. Imagine the Apple mouse, but with a connector at the tip. It would make that particular design worse because the mouse is much flatter than the one you show here and the hand basically rests on the whole surface. Also, there is really no reason, especially with how fast these thing charge, to design a wireless mouse able to be used with a wire.

I really don't think you have much of an argument, since you have been A forum member since 2002, Then you should inherently know how MacRumors reports various forms of technology through out. Furthermore, there likely is not enough iMac, MacBook Pro and/or other related news just strictly talk about those topics all the time. Even the authors themselves have commented that they try to branch out on different topics that would appeal to a mass demographic, not just one target topic for a specific audience.

Yeah, my memory may betray me, but back when I joined I don't think there were so many "general tech" news here. And I already said I get why they do it, it's all about maximizing content and engagement. Doesn't mean I have to like it.

It looks like at least the one of the watches can run on iOs, I'm guessing all 3 of these products actually can but not sure. Even if you don't feel Samsung wearables are enough of a competitor, which I think I have to disagree especially with how wearables are still in its infancy, at minimum one of these products can be used with ios so plenty relevant enough to be on Macrumors.

Now that is a good point! The watches are indeed "compatible" with iPhone, as I now learned, so Macrumors should report on them.

That's not true. It's just that Apple understands their customers and their customers relate to Apple's design. Obviously most of the world doesn't buy Apple for one reason or another. But hundreds of millions do because Apple taps into design cues that set and then also buck the trends. They don't follow fads and copy like Samsung typically does. And I'm not talking about specs.
[doublepost=1504150581][/doublepost]
I'm not seeing your point. Samsung's look like giant Uhura earpieces to me too. That's why Apple's look so sleek, because they are compared to all others regardless of fit. If the don't fit you then that's not good for you but that doesn't mean they don't fit millions of customers' ears like mine. I honestly think they're ahead of competition by a few years. After all, it's not like any brand of earbuds are going to get larger the way phone screens do over time. That turns off some people but I don't see them changing the AirPods design anytime soon. It's already iconic.

Well, if you think they look like Uhuras earpiece, you either dont know what her earpiece looks like or are completely unfamiliar with Samsungs, Bragi Dash, or the new Bang Olufsen among others. Your welcome to google any of those mentioned or try them out. I dont want to clog up post with more pics. All of those practically form fit to inside of your ear. You can hardly see them looking straight at someone. And your claim about Apple....
"They don't follow fads and copy like Samsung typically does"
Well, that statement alone is why people think those that buy Apple products are delusional and a bunch of fan boy sheep.
Apple themselves,as anyone with an unbiased viewpoint knows, has said repeatedly that they have no problem copying. They dont need to be first to market with an idea, they just want to do it best. As a owner of several Apple products its insanely frustrating debating people who have never tried other products, know next to nothing about them, and make claims about Apple that totally contradictory of Apples own statements.

I have tried 3 pairs of in-ear wireless headphones and the only pair that maintained a solid connection with my iPhone were the Apple ones. In a weeks worth of fairly solid use they dropped once, the Earin and Gear Icon X
were verging on unusable and if they had been mine I would have returned them as unfit for purpose pronto...

Hi, which Google Chrome plugin are you referring to for the text/mms messaging?

Like the look of the new watches, but this whole earphones without any cables nonsense is just going to end in tears when you lose one of them. You see with a cable you wouldn't lose one of them you'd lose..erm, both of them. I didn't think that through. Doh!

8 months 10 days of daily use later, AirPods still going strong.

Ehh, no need to worry....If it works great! If it doesn't, Samsung will discontinue and disavow it completely and throw something else at consumers in couple of months.

Sorry to say... these earbuds are way better than apples airpods...
Just check out the capabilities....
tracks health.. stores music all standalone...plus everything else airpods can do... plus it does not have that odd qtip sticking out of the ear.
Give credit where credit is due.
Id buy them If they had the Apple logo on them .
Airpods are silly looking... and dont have some of the capabilities of these airpods..
To call these monstrosity is nothing but an indication of being a blind fanboy .

It's funny that you say they're better based on the intended features...having never actually tried them both yet. But you call someone else a fanboy...

Actually, the new ones where the mousepad is a charging pad is form following function. The device is then completely wireless, all of the time.

Before I was ever a "fan" of Apple's quality, I had long since decided that Samsung is one of the worst. I've gone through so many Samsung devices with crappy customer service and insanely short lifespans that I'd already decided to never buy another of their products again. Apple was a breath of fresh air after coming from the Samsung world.

FYI, Samsung invented NONE of the things you listed. Especially not OLED panels.

It runs perfectly fine. Who care what OS is on a watch? How often do you actually spend loading apps on your watch?

It's not just the apps. It's the numerous features such as Siri, Apple Pay, quick reply to notifications and being able to unlock your Mac that work only because of the underlying hardware and software integration between your Apple devices. This is something Samsung (or any other company) can never be able to match or replicate.

And I do use apps on my Apple Watch. Apple Music, 1Password, workflow, Authy, messages, maps. Just a while back, I even used my watch to control a keynote presentation being played on my phone.

For the price, it just doesn't make sense to opt for a smartwatch that isn't an Apple Watch.

Apple can make the ugliest and non logical products and they won't be doomed because right now Apple is cool. Also a lot of people don't like change and stick with Apple products because that's what they know how to use and are used to it.

Not saying Apple products aren't good but they sell no matter what because a lot of their customers will buy them because it's an Apple product. Not necessarily because it's the best device on the market.
It's not about one device, it's about an ECOSYSTEM! And Apple does it right.

Also, I will take a small camera bump so I can have a much better camera. Consider most don't give a crap since it's in a case anyway. I'll flip my mouse and charge it in 20m, so the top can be buttery smooth for the 99% I use it.

I don't get some people; put the cupcake down and go re-design yourself in the gym, and stop worrying about a camera bump.

And what comes out of the Samsung Earbuds is not too disimilar to what goes into the Potty chair!

The sound quality coming out of the Apple airpods are garbage as well. If one wants quality audio, both are products to avoid.
