Really poor execution of an interesting, useful feature. I hate to say it, but good advertising of an inferior product can sell over bad advertising of a superior product.

That being said, I'd still buy an apple product over a Samsung one any day :)

Steve Jobs saying it best. The times are a changing.

Good ad. Honestly, i don't like Sammy too much but all companies seem to poke fun at each other. Don't see why we should care if they're bashing (apple included) the competition, not like we made the product. Were just the consumer. And it's funny because it's true.

Give this man a CIGar. Nice to see someone with an objective and unbiased observation.

I find it hilarious that a ton of people are pointing out that the iPad sells more as a way to endorse the iPad. When the shoe is on the other foot, though, it's because Apple products are "of higher quality" and "quality is better than quantity".

And I find it hilarious when a few guys like you fail to see the point, like a regular person would.

The iPad costs the same or more, targets the same especific audience that the galaxy does, and it sells a billion times more.

This is different then saying that Samsung sells more phones than Apple. Or fiat sells more cars then rolls. Or better yet, the best example, Microsoft sells more computers than Apple.

Again, if you don't get the point, you shouldn't be allowed to post, here.

Ad would have made more sense if it showed multitasking doing something people would actually do, like half screen for video and half for web browsing or something.

That's exactly what the Dad was doing.

Half for child's video, half for his football web app (see Post 367 above.)... and then a popup call from the Mom.

Really, Samsung, Really? You have to go even further from bashing your competitors to actually faking your advertisements by simulating the video? Now that reaches in a special kind of stupid in me in terms of advertising. Good luck getting me to buy your products, when you lie to your customers in advertising.

Apple in the past has put out ads that had screen transitions shortened in their ads to make it seem like apps open instantly and their 3G is faster than wifi.

iPhones and iPads can already do multi-tasking in the very definition of it. Can you listen to music and use safari at the same time?
...

Try this with your iOS device. Turn on Home Sharing in iTunes on your desktop. Start the Music App on your iOS device. Connect to your shared music and watch it load, and while loading, open safari and then switch back to the music app. The "loading" stopped. It was not doing it in the background.

I don't know about anybody else, but the kid looks crossed eye when he's watching the samsung tablet... If that product has that effect on people... they can keep it.

They should call it the Samsung Navin, but I don't want to see any commercials about its "special purpose". No sir.

It's more like a company saying:

"Look at us! Our tablet is better, faster, and cheaper than the iPad! And we use better components!"

And then no one buys it because nobody cares about components.

I mentioned Amazon because they touted "a million more pixels than the iPad"

The result? No one cared. The Kindle Fire has more pixels... but their app store sucks. See? It's more than individual components. It's the total package.

So here were are again in a similar situation... with Samsung talking about "contrast ratio"

Does anyone wanna guess how this will turn out?

"More pixels" didn't do anything... maybe "contrast ratio" will.

And you need to portrait pc users as nerdy fat naive people for that? How about you take those thick Apple fanboy googles off and stop appying double standards.

Do you think that computers are people? Apple's "Get a Mac" campaign never attacked PC users, just PC's.

Exactly.

Here's my take:

Multitasking = You can run two crappy Android apps at the same time
Fancy screen = You can see the crappy Android app better in daylight
Better battery life = You can have the crappy Android experience longer before recharging

These ads,and as shown by some of the missteps Samsung has had at their U.S. events, highlights they really need to overhaul their American PR department. I’d love to have the option to do split screen but this example sucks. How is this the best Samsung can muster, especially when they know that Apple is going to flood the airways in a few months, with ads showing the benefits of Handoff (families able to take and make calls and messages from almost any Apple device) and Family Sharing (six family members sharing the same media)? Wasted opportunity.

Last, but not least, Apple isn’t really their biggest threat, upcoming cheap Android Chinese tablets are.

Samsung is employing Apple's most successful technique in their ads:

Showing what their product can do.

They are also competing, by showing us what the competitor's product cannot do which is the logical next step in the ad technique.

To hate on that is to be an Apple apologist.

Bottom line, it would be nice if the iPad had those capabilities. If you don't like them, you could turn them off on not use them.

But Apple is smugly and stubbornly sticking to the idea that the iPad (or rather, modern tablets) are a strictly a single-user device. They are wrong. Period.

And their competitors KNOW they are wrong, and are giving US an alternative.

Tablets are now, for the most part, a mature product. Apple will succeed more if they start giving people what they want on products such as these. But no, they keep applying the "customers don't know what they want" paragigm when it isn't appropriate anymore (it is appropriate when introducing/redefining a category of product).

If they would adjust their paradigms appropriately, Apple would've been able to effectively shoot Android in the head. Instead, they left it wide open for Google to exist and succeed the current climate:

Apple tells you what to want vs. Google/Microsoft (and its partners) gives you what you want.

The moment Apple chooses to do both = TOTAL DOMINANCE.

Apple are the best at what they do. But unfortunately, they do not do everything, and what's worse, stop doing things that were excellent in the first place. I will never understand why Apple exits a space they played in instead of applying their skills to competing better in it. I know, I know, MORE MONEY.

I was thinking the same thing the other day while driving my car and wishing I had a 512 gb or a 1TB iPod classic.

Such a simple promise to deliver on, but they think they can make more money by streaming with iTunes Match and now Beats.

They have essentially exited the personal music library. I for one will not distance myself from my ownership of my own music. Especially because most of my stuff has been ripped from my own LPs

Can you view youtube and take notes in pages at the same time?

Win XP Tablet edition had multitouch before iPhone existed, but hey, it isn't a Apple or Microsoft thing right?

Uh, you’re talking split WINDOW multitasking which has been on other OSs for years and years.

----------

Not always. Listening to music in one app while browsing in Safari is multitasking.

Hate to bring the bad news, but plasma is dead.

I know, I said the same thing about multitasking in an earlier post. And my Panasonic plasma is still the best tv in my house, even better than the new LED LG I just got.

Until Apple does it in 2015 and then it's innovative, right?

do you have reading comprehension problems? I think my post is pretty clear that I think the opposite and Apple adding this feature is not suddenly going to make me like it.

Do you have zero imagination?

-airplane
-video conference
-multi-angle videos
-showing two different finalizations of edited videos in a pitch meeting or really any type of video comparisons (before/after form of baseball swing)

see above

these are all terrible examples, all of these are things that can be done within a single application and no need for split screen OS wide and in fact would be better suited to be done within a single application. And even then probably the reason there arent many apps that do anything like this (and i think the point people are making that you are missing) - is who would want to watch 2 videos on a small tablet screen? Most people complain enough about how small a single movie is on a tablet - hard for 2 people to share a tablet to watch the same movie - you are going to watch 2 on the same tablet?

ANY possible reason you could come up with for having a split screen tablet would make far more sense to just have 2 devices - or some sort of cheaper device that is just a second screen (and maybe then you have the ability to watch 2 things)... again even on a desktop most people will agree 2 apps open on same monitor is really same as one at a time - you would need 2 screens to really see 2 apps at once (and again even then you cant really use both at once).

This is why Samsung has these commercials. Some people need their hands held. You really can't think of a reason to view two videos simultaneously?

no logical reason...

Lots of ******** fanboys on this thread...

I hate Samsung as much as the next guy, and for the life of me I'll NEVER UNDERSTAND why most every hardware company out there relies on someone else to write s*** software for their products. That said...

- Mutitasking is a feature I'd love to see come to iOS. I applaud Samsung for advertising this, as it helps to force Apple's hand in implementing yet another long overdue feature.

- I personally LOVE AMOLED displays as well. Seeing how gray my blacks look on iDevices is very disappointing when you know something better is out there. Jobs seemed to have a personal beef with OLED technology. True those screens tend to be calibrated more bluish in hue, but that could easily be solved by LETTING ME CALIBRATE MY OWN SCREEN!!!

Samsung made a couple ads. Get over it. Maybe it'll help Apple improve their stuff.
