Most Apple fan boys like myself forget apple did something similar with its Mac vs PC ads. I have to admit this is a good ad but is not realistic. The only problem here is the S5 has a much larger battery but not a better designed battery. The reason battery life has gotten better on the S series is because they have increased the size of the battery not the technology behind it or the software optimizations. Apple works hard in this department.

S1 1500mah iPhone 2G 1400mah
S2 1850mah iPhone 3G 1150mah
S3 2100mah iPhone 3Gs 1219mah
S4 2600mah iPhone 4 1420mah
S5 2800mah iPhone 4s 1432mah
iPhone 5 1440mah
iPhone 5s 1570mah

Apple hasn't increased the battery mah but has increased the software optimizations. Im sure within the next 2 iPhone series phones they will increase the battery as the size of the phone increases. I would expect the 4.7" iPhone to hold a larger battery. increased battery life.

Have they never heard of portable batteries? i have 15000 mAH Anker portable battery and I could recharge my phone and do whatever i want without "hugging" the wall.....

Battery packs are so bulky. Why not just use a battery case. They offer more life and protection.

Well, it’s true. I was at the airport last week, tethered to the wall even though the batter was 87% full, afraid id have to manually go on power saving mode by rationing the use of gaming or limiting usage to just music listening 3 hours in to my upcoming flight. I do hate I cant just pop in a new fully charged battery but, Apple is already working on that and Samsung is sure to copy – faster than they did, the finger print thing. In cell display integration with solar charging on the iphone 8s

For this specific reason I purchased the zagg sparq 2 when it was on super sale (with coupon) for something like $40. It claims to charge an iPhone four times (it's more like three real world use) and is about the size of maybe 3-4 coasters stacked on one-another; it easily fits in a bag, especially for those who are traveling.

I am quite in love with it and it has effectively removed my battery concerns, pretty much permanently.

I don't say this as an attempt to diminish the need for a larger battery in iPhones; I think that is something people have legitimately wanted for many years now. I mention it because I feel it is an indispensable tool for someone that travels often, and it is compatible with any device that has a USB charging cable.

Try turning LTE off.

What tends to happen, if LTE attena is on in your device, and you are outside of LTE area, while your device flips down to 3g, your LTE antenna is still trying to get back onto LTE, often ramping up the juice used.

THis is probably why you're finding the drain so much higher in 3g than in LTE.

It's not, I've turned it off entirely and had better life on LTE. It could just be the 3g in my area sucks more then the average so the radio is active for such a longer time.

My friends that uses S3 and S4 has to carry 3 additional batteries for a day's normal usage.
My 4S does have the Mophie case, but hardly ever need to turn that feature on...

Not to mention those exposed terminals of the 3 batteries in their backpacks...

Hey look, everyone is using an iPhone! *buys an iPhone and maybe a backup battery accessory just in case*.

Samsung did more to the S5 then just add 200mah over the S4 . Straight from Anandtech.

"The Galaxy S 5 includes Samsung's hallmark removable back cover and battery. The GS5 uses a 10.78Wh (2800mAh @ 3.85V) battery. The modest increase in battery capacity over the Galaxy S 4 is only a small part of the story. With the GS5, Samsung significantly improved the overall platform power story compared to the Galaxy S 4 (even more so than HTC's M7/M8 transition)."

Interchangeable battery? 1997 wants its innovation back.

Wow. I just don't see it that way. I see it as having choices and Apple doesn't allow it. Wouldn't it be nice to have the choice of swapping a battery out if need be? And wouldn't it be nice to be able to expand memory? But that will NEVER happen because Apple makes KILLER margins on memory, be it in a phone, pad or laptop or desktop.

I've got to admit, I'd love to see a new battery technology in the iPhone 6, along with a battery size increase. Needing to charge it every day is somewhat of a killer at the moment.

So far, with all the iPhone 6 announcements, if it features a better battery, plus a massive reduction of the SAR value, I'll buy it before the end of my contract of my iPhone 5.

Sad part is, the iPhone battery life isn't that bad. Who needs promotion when Samsung does Apple's promotion for them? :p

The true part is, the iPhone battery is just terrible. I love my iPhone, but without my extra power charger, that offers protection for the device as well, I would very much dislike my iPhone due the fact that the device doesn't hold up for one single day without any battery backup.

If you turn all options off, like finding WiFi automatically, bluetooth, brightness of screen, and when you don't take many pictures especially video and you don't record long walks with runkeeper while listening to the radio, then it does goes along one single day.

With my extra battery charger that acts like a protection as well I can do all these these about one day. And yes, I do like to make long walks, while recording my route, taking pictures and video from now and then whle listening to the radio or spotify while walking along.

It's ironic to conclude that it's my energy / battery case that ends up being responsible for actually making my smartphone "smart". Because without enough batteries, it sure ain't that smart....

I think you need to compare S5 to iPhone 5s. The point is that current Android phones are no longer battery hogs compared to current iPhones. Heck, with my old Verizon Nexus (same time iPhone 4s came out) I needed 3 batteries total to make it through a day of hard use and sometimes even that was not enough. No one is going to argue with you that older gen Android devices sucked especially early LTE devices. Times have changed my friend.

Same here.

And for me on number one to four of the wish-list would be:

Better battery life!

Characterizing these claims as attacks when Apple is on the receiving end is hyperbole, plain and simple.

Tethered to the wall. Denied the freedom to enjoy even the most basic things, like grabbing a drink, or sharing a laugh with your co-workers. Or sitting with someone you know. You're stuck here until your battery says so.
The hyperbole is in the ad, not the MacRumors article.

Your S5 has a way bigger battery. Wonder how long the battery will last if/when Apple releases a 5.5 in. iPhone?

Good question. I do expect it will be above average by any standard. I hope at least

Keep in mind, the only reason Samsung can make this true claim at all is due to Apple's less than perfect design decisions. Apple is letting form limit function not enhance it and it is starting to show.

Hopefully they correct this with iPhone 6.

My reason for saying "slightly bigger" is for a comparison with battery. Battery in S5 is twice as powerful, however screen is not twice as big. Thus the word "slightly". Got it?

And the screen is going to suck more power because it's a higher resolution. It isn't just about size.

Samsung is Dirty, end of story

I'll never buy products from Samsung. They are dirty and corrupt. Do your research, then invest in tech.

Pathetic, really.

The companies that have to make fun of their competition in advertisements tend to come across as desperate, and this is no exception. It tends to alienate potential customers, and make the existing ones question their decision.
