Ahhh..... therein lies the rub, doesn't it?? The implementation.
Samsung's tablets don't have horrible, not real multitasking at all, "choose from a VERY limited choice of apps to *ahem* multitask *ahem*" because their software engineers can't code.... quite to the contrary- their workforce is probably 80-90% as talented as Apple's! They are employing top-notch minds. The reason why their "multitasking" (sorry, I simply cannot use that term without quotes & keep a straight face, as what Samsung offers is clearly NOT true multitasking) is so incredibly shoddy is because true multitasking on a mobile OS is currently IMPOSSIBLE. I believe that what Samsung has done (& make no mistake... it sucks) is currently the absolute BEST that can be done. And THAT, in a nutshell friends, is why Apple is waiting.
The "multi-windowing" feature is one of those features Samsung adds just to say they have it, but that nobody actually uses.
My work phone (GS3) was updated last year with the enhancements that allowed multi-windowing support. it's not as straightforward as they show in the video.
First, you have to:
1) Enable multi-window support since it's turned OFF by default-- this is activated by a toggle at the top of the pull-down menu, and you have to scroll over to the right to find it on a GS3
2) Once enabled, you have a little multi-window tab showing on the side of your screen
no matter what you're doing. If you don't like seeing the tab there all the time, then go up and turn off multi-window support. If you don't see the tab, you're using a program that's not capable of multi-windowing.
3) Pulling out the tab shows you a tray of all the apps that support multi-windowing, which not every app does.
4) Then you drag the icon to your preferred location on the screen. Congratulations! You're now "multitasking."
This is a horrible user experience, and needless to say it's a feature that I turned back off once I realized I wasn't getting any benefit from it.
Samsung doesn't add features like this to enhance the user experience. Samsung adds features so that they can make ads bashing the iDevices for not having those features. Even if the features are implemented in a way that nobody will actually want to use them.
If you like multi-windowing, just wait until you see how seamless and easy (cough) their new fingerprint reader implementation will be!
