The one constant in almost every Samsung ad I've seen is, these ads portray the world the way Samsung WISHES it were.

Like, they show a bunch of cool young people using Samsung phones while the old folk parents use iPhones. In reality of course, Apple is way more popular among the young, while Samsung is way more popular among the old.

Now we see old folks talking about "the lower screen resolution of the iPad (2048-by-1536 resolution) when compared to the Galaxy Pro (2560-by-1600 resolution)." Samsung deeply wishes that anyone gave a rat's *** about those kind of "specs" rather than the subjective experience of using the device.

It just comes across as detached from reality, slightly mean/bullying, and a bit desperate.

"I'm a Mac" worked because the PC character was by far the more likeable, even lovable guy. Samsung needs an affectionate dig at Apple to be truly effective and penetrate, not a nasty fiction.

I just don't understand how they can be used for real productivity without the ability to multi-task / use multiple windows at once. This is a genuine question.

Depends on the task in question. Also depends on the job's demands. Having worked in the software industry for almost 20 years I can tell you that the average person doesn't understand or use multi-tasking. It's confusing for them until they have a recipe style script worked out in their head to navigate between applications. And they hate doing it. A well designed app that has good transitions to information without requiring a visual/cognitive context change will always be regarded as better than having to switch to other applications. If you research human factors you'll find that theme to be pretty common.

I don't mind their ad ideas... it's just all their ads have a cringe-worthy feel to them. They don't feel genuine and they're always slightly (or more than slightly) uncomfortable... even if they're making valid points. I enjoyed a more recent commercial of theirs that could have easily been an Apple commercial if it weren't for all the Samsung products. The commercial was genuine and well-thought out to touch on the emotional side of people. This commercial is garbage. It's not even funny. Maybe it's the actors. I don't know. But I don't like these types of commercials from Samsung. They can do better.

Those who can do, those who can't ...

Those with good products advertise their strong points. Those with weak products criticize the other guys.

An unnamed source provides evidence as to the strategy behind Samsung’s new product campaign. The following is a brief excerpt:cool::

Samsung: Oh God I am so jealous of Apple!

God: Don’t be jealous. You too can be successful. Just be creative.

Samsung: Can I create blatant rip-off versions of their products?

God: You might have to worry about copyright infringements.

Samsung: Can I add a few gimmickry features to mask my lack of real creativeness?

God: Umm, that might work.

Samsung: And can I then tout my gimmickry features to make my products look better than theirs, and dupe unsuspecting consumers into buying my products even though they will be disappointed in the end?

God: That might work for a while.

Samsung: OH THANK YOU GOD!!

People are getting way too defensive over these ads, they're just ads, and as many people point out "I'm a Mac; I'm a PC" is regarded as one of the best advertising campaigns ever.

People are free to make their own decisions and nothing in these ads is 'wrong'. The Windows tablet with "keyboard, battery pack and mouse" is accurate and hilarious; the Kindle jibe is valid (although use a Kindle Paperwhite and you will realise that for reading a book no Samsung or Apple device comes close); the Apple jibe is valid too to be honest, although to my eyes its not the number of pixels, its the colour gamut which is TERRIBLE on the iPad mini and average on the Air. Not a great topic for Samsung to touch though as the Kindle Fire HDX torches (no pun intended) everyone when it comes to gamut.

tl;dr lighten up.

I love reading you guys get your panties all in wads. I love my iPad, but hate Apple's self-imposed limitations (no side by side apps, no widgets, no haptic feedback, etc.) Typical Apple withholding features as always.

This has probably already been said, but that last conversation between the two women at the spa would probably never happen. Nobody in the real world is going to be bragging about their device having 350ppi vs 300ppi or whatever it comes out to. The iPad screen is sharp enough that you can't even really see the pixels unless you smash your face up against it. How much better do you really need it to be? It's print resolution!

And another thing—I'd take a Surface Pro over a Samsung any day.

What a bunch of garbage. Apple seems to be the only company capable of creating original advertisements these days. I find it funny how every other company cannot seem to create anything original, only an advertisement that bashes an Apple product. No originality, just "Buy our product because it's better than the iPad".

Wait - are you telling me ads are almost always "realistic"

Really? You're going to criticize the ad over a conversation that wouldn't take place.

Ok - I'll play - How about Zooey D asking Siri what the weather is outside while she's looking out the window ;)

Pepsi Challenge was buy use because we're better. It was also pretty original.

There're probably less than 100 people that want to use a Wacom with their tablets and I'm not exaggerating much.

I personally know 6 people with Galaxy Notes, and the one thing they love most about it is being able to jot down stuff using the stylus.

Consider the amount of people who buy a capacitive stylus for their iPads. They're one of the best selling accessories for the thing. That's roughly the same amount of people who would love to have a proper Wacom style digitizer on a tablet.

...and it's a helluva lot more than 100 people.

I didn't see anyone getting defensive here except for the few who thought the had to stand up for Samsung, as if they owned the company. The majority just finds these ads embarrassing.

And as many have pointed out, Apple's ad campaign was funny; this one isn't.

Hi everybody. I'm a long time MacRumors reader and finally decided to register as well.

The only thing I found funny was the retina quote at the end. Personally, I have better than average/good vision, so retina displays almost do it for me, but not quite. I can still see the individual pixels at the "typical viewing distance" Apple claims. However, the way Apple products work as a whole – compared to Samsung and other Android-based products – is plenty enough for me stay with Apple products at this point.

Funny is subjective

You don't see anyone getting defensive? Ok - subjective again. I see a LOT of people getting defensive lol. As if they owned Apple.

People see what they want to see (again).
