I feel the same way. I still don't understand why apple won't allow us to choose deafault programs. And give us some freaking themes apple.

Unfortunately I'm too hooked to their ecosystem now to go back to android full time. Ill probably get a note 5 as a secondary phone though. The hardware on the note makes iPhone looks like a joke.

Because the OS is so inefficient that it needs 4x the hardware specs to be 50% as usable? ;)

Are you in the US? Most transactions here are still with swipe of the magnetic strip. But that will change supposedly in a few months as it will be required. Retailers are going nuts about it though cause many are not ready.

Sorry, no, UK. Should have made that clear. Whilst many readers still have swipe functionality, it's only there as a backup, and hardly ever used, in fact I don't believe your allowed to use it with a chip and pin card unless there's a failure with the chip, you can't ask to be allowed to swipe out of preference. Of course, people without pin cards can swipe and sign, i'm sure it gets a lot of use in areas popular with US tourists, etc.

I'm sure by iOS 10, you will be able to change default applications and customize themes. Now regarding hardware, Samsung Note 5 may be specced out but the software implementation is still second rate. Sure you can walk around bragging to your friends how much RAM you have in your new Note but you can't do anything more useful than the iPhone 6.

Bottom line, Microsoft and Samsung are bending over backwards to copy Apple. That should tell you everything you need to know.

I think the copying apple and Samsung does is mutual. Samsung has copied things from Apple but Apple has done the same.

Note 5 is more useful due to it not being as closed as ios.

As for Microsoft, their apps store is abysmal, but they are the only ones doing innovation these days.

Note 5
http://www.engadget.com/2015/08/13/samsung-galaxy-note-5-hands-on-preview/

$250 on contract for the 32GB model and $350 on contract for the 64GB model
$700-$740 and $815-$840 if buying outright

S6 Edge+
http://www.engadget.com/2015/08/13/samsung-galaxy-s6-edge-plus-hands-on-preview/

$200 on contract for the 32GB model and $300 on contract for the 64GB model
$792-$815 and $888-$915 if buying outright

Pricing has still yet to be announced for the 128GB models.

So then Samung numbnuts say that Apple products are expensive?

I don't get it. So for the Note 4 they had the Note 4 and the Note Edge. And for the Note 5 they have the Note 5 and the S6 Edge+? Why isn't that one a Note Edge as well?
they couldn't call it a note edge because it does not include the s pen. I was really hoping they did include the pen on the s6e+, but I guess there's no room. either way, i'm very disappointed, i'm gonna keep my note 4 for another round.

When asking two friends what phone they have:

Friend one: iPhone 6+
Friend two: Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+

Samsung naming tactics is a tongue twister

Here in the UK its £699.99 for the Edge Plus and that's only for the 32GB! The iPhone 6Plus is £699.99 for the 64GB model that's how much I paid for mine last year! So Samsung are now more expensive than Apple's 6 Plus!

Exactly so this whole excuse for people putting Samsung before Apple because of the "cheaper price" is just a moot point by now.

Apple takes in the lion share of the mobile profits. The rest including Samsung takes the scraps. Samsung is doing everything possible to copy the iPhone to increase their profits. Removing SD and removable battery are all part of a strategy to force users to buy higher storage capacity phones. In line with Apple, this is a move to increase profits.

Also, copying the UI and making the naming convention similar is a move to help scrupulous sales reps at various carrier stores sell iPhone like devices to uninformed buyers. Samsung will fail again and will be on their last leg this time next year.

You're right except for one thing. Android never copied UI, Apple did. In fact Apple copied Matias Duarte's Web OS UI which pioneered all the modern multi-tasking, notification, split-screen etc...mobile UI AND is now in charge of Android Lollipop's UI which has nothing to do with Apple and is in fact far better.

The problem is that hardware wise, Android are still hideous, unpolished, unoptimized crap, and that's why Samsung can't sell more at a higher price.

Pretty nice update of the Note from Samsung. I just wish they would of bumped up the battery and somehow kept the SD card slot. I'll be holding on to my Note 4 a bit longer I guess.

Actually, Google did initially start by copying Apple. They were already about to release a keyboard style phone before starting over when Apple launched the first iPhone. Hell, Google did a complete UI redesign after iOS 7 dropped and it looked similar in many ways. In fairness, Apple copies some things as well so hopefully you enjoy that olive branch. I didn't bring up Google though. We are talking about Samsung.

Have you looked at the lock screen for the Samsung phones? Did you notice the camera icon in the bottom right and how the time and date are placed on the screen? Yea, at quick glance an uninformed consumer could easily think "it's iPhone like". That's the modus operandi for the Korean company. Copy and trickery. Now they have ear pods knock offs as well which tells me they have no shame and they aren't hiding the fact.

Lol, their keyboard accessory is HIDEOUS

Seems like it was just yesterday when Blackberry scuttled Ryan Seacrest's plans for an iPhone keyboard.

Apple sure are THE runaway leaders when it comes to removing features from the iMacs and their whole line of laptops.

And the rest of the industry seems to like to follow suit after Apple. So I guess by your definition Apple is the leader and the rest seems to follow. Go figure.

Even Intel followed them in this bad trend when they created the "ultrabook" concept.

Bad trend? Maybe from your viewpoint but there are a lot of people who view that otherwise.
It is a bad trend because by hyping up the concept and focusing on weak CPUs with computer vendors concentrating on this all they accomplished is for the PC market to tank, as people see little interest in puny upgrades or downgrades.

Intel's heavy handed approach against AMD resulting in today's de facto monopoly only made things worse.

Thanks, Samsung paid poster! /s/ *NOT!* Oh, and you were right about one thing, I'll rephrase it for you for accuracy -- 'never will there be a time when Samsung leads the market in physical or software design'.

Are you mad that I have an opinion? I've never been a Samsung fan. Always been a Motorola user. But Samsung does seem to have turned a corner on physical design. Their software still seems bloated and icon heavy, but I don't think anybody can give folks crap for saying that their newest devices look very good, especially of course the Edge displays. They're gimmicks, but good looking gimmicks. Sure there are definitely other phones that look just as good. I like the Sony handsets as well as the the new Motorola X's. Not too big on HTC though.

If I'm fully honest, I like how the Edge devices look. But after the experience I had with S III... no way am I EVER buying a Samsung phone (or anything else, except perhaps a SSD) again.

Am I the only one who wanted a mix of both of the phones in one? Like with the curved screens and the stylus? That's what I think would have been killer. And ugh that Keyboard is hideous... Oh, in the Keynote, they were keen to show how the S6 Edge Plus was 0.01 inches less wide than the iPhone 6 so I mean that basically made the decision up for me

I'm waiting to see what the next iPhone will be like otherwise I think I might get one of these. Having said that, I don't see massive improvements over the past versions. I mean a slight redesign and upgraded RAM is all I see at the moment.
