Again, innovative compared to what/whom? Touch ID, 64 bit mobile processors, Apple Pay, hardware encryption/secure enclave, HomeKit, 3D Touch, Live Photos, great designs copied by OEMs, etc. weren't innovative?

Samsung today hosted a media event in New York City, where it introduced the all-new Galaxy Note7 with an updated S Pen, a new Gear VR headset powered by Oculus, and the Gear 360 camera. All three products will be available in the United States on August 19, with pre-orders starting tomorrow.

The 5.7-inch Galaxy Note7 adopts several design and hardware features of the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, including a 2,560×1,440 Super AMOLED dual curved display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 quad-core 64-bit 14nm processor, 4GB of RAM, 12-megapixel Dual Pixel rear-facing camera, wireless charging, and IP68-rated waterproofing.

Additionally, the Galaxy Note7 features a built-in iris scanner for unlocking the smartphone with your eyes, 64GB of internal storage expandable up to 256GB with a microSD card, a larger 3,500mAh battery, 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2 LE, NFC for contactless payments, and a USB-C connector. The device will run Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow out of the box, eventually followed by Android 7.0 Nougat.

Samsung complemented the new smartphone with an updated version of its S Pen. The stylus features new Air Command functions, including Magnify and Translate, that enable users to zoom in on the screen or convert languages with a simple hover gesture, along with double the pressure sensitivity and a smaller 0.7mm tip geared towards providing a more ballpoint pen-like experience.

The Galaxy Note7 in Blue Coral, Silver Titanium, and Black Onyx launches at AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, and U.S. Cellular on August 19. Pricing will be similar to previous Note devices, amounting to around $750 to $800. The smartphone will also be available at Amazon, Best Buy, Car Toys, Sam's Club, Target, and select Walmart stores. An unlocked version will be released at a later date.

Long time diehard Note series user here. I definitely have mixed emotions about this one. The Note series has always been positioned as head and shoulders above the S series, but this time the Note 7 is basically a S7 edge with a stylus and slightly larger screen. The price seems too expensive for this small functionality. It's about a $110 difference, which is too expensive IMO. But I think the s7 edge is too expensive as well. That markup is basically for the curved screen, which is a gimmick. The biggest insult IMO is the lack of Nougat. With AT&T as my carrier I'm going to have to wait 8-10 months to upgrade, that's intolerable for a $900 phone.

I don't think I'd buy one if it wasn't for the BOGO deal ATT has going on, this way I can sell one on swappa right away while they are hot. But other than that, I don't see myself paying almost $900 for this.

Lol, please do.... "go on".
1st, defend your claim that the iPhone 6 was "useless" (roflmao). I'm pretty sure that literally tens of millions of consumers USED it, making that statement one of the more painful ignorant things I could imagine one saying.
Next, explain why Google Wallet came back out rebranded as Android Pay & changing how it works after Apple Pay came out & explain how Apple Pay is used so much more often when there is so many more Android phones out there. Please.... "go on" to explain how Google Wallet worked similarly to Apple Pay with no secure enclave & no fingerprint for security.
Looking forward to it.

64bit with only 1GB. You know the old saying - better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

I wonder if you'd say the same thing to designers of early 64bit processors who built machines that had as little as 16MB (yes, 16MB) of RAM?

So what? Apple is getting OLED screens in 2018. Our emoji's will be 3x's bigger in iOS 10 and we have Live Photo's! Take that Samsung!
I trust that was said with a sense of irony.....
Does anyone actually enjoy live photos? Do you sit around pressing your screen to watch 2 seconds of badly moving picture. I am due free upgrade to iPhone 7 from 6s but am so disappointed with Apple when I see the beautiful Samsungs. If only they had ios!

If only you would live your life by your crazy little cute sayings.. this place would deffo take a turn for the better...

I Have to admit galaxy phones are becoming more tempting. I've never really wanted to sway from iPhone but even with a 6s plus I feel behind when looking at this. Plus I'd get a free gear and possibly a free second phone. Things I'd never get with Apple.

I've explained in simple terms , if you are struggling to keep up , your loss..

THE BATTERY IN THIS NEW SAMSUNG PHONE IS NOT REPLACEABLE. NOT BY YOU. NOT BY A THIRD PARTY SHOP. NOT BT SAMSUNG.

WHEN THE BATTERY DIES IN A FEW YEARS THE PHONE GETS TOSSED IN THE TRASH.

HOW Effed up is that?

Look who showed up right on cue. I asked you last time to name some Apps and I'll try them on both phones to give you a comparison. But you never bothered. are you going to give me some examples this time around?
What on earth are you banging on about, if you are gonna name check someone.. get the right person. Else you look rather foolish as your saying goes..

This whole bickering over Samsung vs Apple is really silly. It really comes down to this. If you only have an iPhone, there may be better options for you. If you only have a Mac, there may be better options for you. If you only have an iPad, there may be, wait, no there really isn't a better option. BUT, if you have a combination of any of those 3, it makes a nearly unbeatable combination of seamless continuity. At least when it works ;)

It's a pointless gimmick. Why would anyone want a distorted display wrapping off the edge, where you hold the device?

No one wants this.
It gives the illusion of no bezel. It makes it look like you are literally just holding a screen in your hand. Text and images are just there. Not contained in a box with a bezel around it, they're right there in front of you.

I can't really explain it, but it's definitely no gimmick for me.

. iOS 10 is really iOS 9.4. This snail's-pace "innovation" by Apple has finally gotten too old for me. Even a jailbreak isn't saving me like I thought it would.

That said, I'll have a 20-day return window, just in case!

Kinda like the "snails pace" at which you'll get an OS update on the Samsung...

You shouldn't go on. Not because you've made your case on merit, but because you seem to have a very limited understanding of the features and tech in the iPhone.

Apple's A series chips are the gold standard. The SE with its 1GB of RAM outperforms most devices and gets amazing battery life for something that small.

http://www.anandtech.com/show/10285/the-iphone-se-review/2

The rest of the industry should be envious of what Apple can do with half the RAM. But that's what happens when you have an entire OS built on an interpretive language and OEMs bog it down further with skins and bloatware and there's little integration with the hardware.

Live Photos first appeared on HTC but as a gimmick, not a single click, system wide, multi-device feature.

Google wallet? That clunky app solution that required a PIN that was scrapped in favor of Apple P... I mean, Android Pay? Which coincidentally works exactly like Apple Pay but without the secure enclave piece? That Google Wallet?

Look, I don't mean to sound snarky, but innovation doesn't necessarily mean first. Even biometric features were available before Apple introduced Touch ID, but Apple was first to get that right too which took other manufacturers 3 years to copy.

There's no shortage of ideas and many will throw everything but the kitchen sink at the wall, but few companies take the time to get it right, and getting something right is in itself innovation... and many would argue that's the far more valuable form of innovation.
