Technology it’s not about what’s important it’s what’s the best available on the market and that’s what Samsung has been offering compared to Apple period.
For some, "more technology" is just an opinion as a way of assigning internet talking points. And as you said the word best, "best" is subjective, not objective. To me faceid technology trumps all of Samsung technology as it is best. You can argue that, but that feeds into best being a subjective measure. Period (as you say)

Now, samsung is going to do with the watch ,what they did with the smartphone? making them bigger and bigger?
46mm ....whats next samsung 50mm? Its a watch, you wear it
Samsung didn't make a bigger watch this year.
The Gear S3 Frontier is 46mm... last years product.
They did put a larger battery in the same case size though.

S3 had 380mAh battery.
The new one is 472mAh

You know Apple and Samsung users have to learn to appreciate each other and respect their products. Both companies have made significant impacts to the cellular world and continue to do so. As an iPhone user it’s sickening seeing Apple users sit on their imaginary throne of excellence looking down on Samsung and Android users. Likewise Android users shouldn’t act smarter than iPhone users. To each his own! I personally was wowed by this announcement by Samsung and am going to jump ship. Apple’s inability to make a long lasting battery is baffling and their camera is definitely not pleasing. iPhone and Android users are worst than Democrats and Republicans!

Yeah, the petty bickering, mine is better than yours, and everything else is so childish. This is an inanimate object. An IPhone or Galaxy/Note are phones/mini computers. People seem to have their egos wrapped up in things that really don't matter. I've owned every IPhone up to the 6, now I'm using a Note 8. Guess what, my life didn't end, I get the same stuff done that I did before, and most people that I know (regular human beings) don't recognize, know, or care what phone I use.

How? It was $850 last year.. why the jump to $999? why? is there a secret Samsung isn't telling us? lol.. nahhh no secret, just Samsung milking apples nuts again by copying them again, and again, and againnnn.. even copying the price, very pathetic, and others seems to agree here. Get the point?

It was with 64gb storage on the note 8.the note 9 comes with 128gb base and a bigger battery.

Apple has offered Split Screen on iPads for a couple of generations, now.

They (rightly) believe it is just silly on a Phone-sized screen.

And I agree.

It might be "perfectly usable" if you have 20/15 eyesight and are under 30; but not so much after that.

Split screens on a Note size phone are individually bigger than the screen on an iPhone 4. Was an iPhone 4 screen not usable?

Sorry but I find it highly inefficient design-wise of a phone and software-wise to need 8GB of RAM. Impressive spec wise but I can think of no reasons why the Note 9 needs more than 6GB of RAM when the iPhone X uses 3GB and multitasks like a champ. I assume it's significant inefficiencies of Android and Samsung's bloatware. See iPad Pros with 4GB of RAM. It feels like this is Samsung completely caught up in the spec game. The 845 chip is still not on par with the A11, let alone the A12 coming.

Gee ever think the added ram will help when you are using the phone as a workstation having it docked?

Or Retina Display as in the human eye cannot discern more than 350 pixels per inch lol. I remember that like yesterday and think FOS (full of shiiizzznit).

Unless Dex and Samsung fully support your choice of Linux in Dex what’s the point? More local storage which will be lost in the event of sever phone damage? Samsung has a goal to maintain thei MicroSD/Transflash business by flaunting this off.

No mention in this article what OS the watch is using. Google isn’t doing much or staying any noise on WearOS. Let’s see how much this gets third party support.

Many others have implemented a snitch or retracted front selfie camera.

I think HTC was the first combining a tablet sized phone with fold out keyboard to touch type on with smartphone windows OS. And with a windows XP.

The human eye can see up to 2100 ppi.a person with 20/20 vision at 4in away from a screen can see over 800ppi.

And thats whats being discussed here? Samsung Hardware? Like the Note9 which includes the best Hardware in the market right now.
Snapdragon 845 vs A11 Bionic

My X is full of new features. It’s a shame you obviously don’t have one. Kuo was right on when he says Face ID is years ahead of EVERYONE and so far it hasn’t been duplicated or bettered by anyone.

Let’s take AirPods - they are selling still faster than Apple can make them as a FIRST generation product. They’ve become a standard in technology equaling the success of the iPod and iPhone. Smash hit. Ahem.

Apple Watch - most of the Apple haters and many lovers said it would die a miserable death - same thing - it rules its catergory and has become an item to need just like Jobs did with so many other Apple devices. The first stand alone cellular watch. Duh!

I must say the X for me has been a great ride. It’s damn fast and it’s been fully reliable — for me.

Seriously.
I would like to add on to the Apple Watch. It is literally the only Smart wearable that is relevant in the market for years.

Yup, just like Apple's IOS bloat in any iphone/ iPad/ Mac.
It's called Samsung bloat because the apps are a replicate of the Android stock apps. Get it right.

Imagine if Apple included expandable memory in their phones.
Apple is doomed obviously! /s

"Samsung says that with the Snapdragon 845, it has included "Water Carbon Cooling System" inside the phone for improved performance with processor intensive apps such as Fortnite. "

Going to go ahead and guess they just mean a heatpipe, like others like Microsoft already called "water cooling", lol

Seems Samsung will end up being the only manufacturer to not support a notch.
They have no choice. If they do, they’ll label themselves as hypocrites. They’ve dug themselves into a very deep hole with all their ridiculous advertising specifically targeting Apple and the “notch” design lately. Every phone manufacturer in the world could have the notch design and Samsung still won’t. Cuz they can’t. Cuz of some, in my opinion, very poor choices that they’ve made.

..
..and with iOS, too.

But you are right. Dex is a lame attempt to make a phone into a PC.

You know what's even more lamer? Passing opinion as facts and stating half-truths. Droids use a standard protocol to cast screen, so droid device work with any other tv with miracast capability.

Educate and research, be more than a blind fan but of course it's effortless being latter. Things are lame until apple does it.

USA carriers already have up to $200 off promo on the note 9. Never pay full price for these phones (including iPhones again)

I’d just wait till my local Sams club has a $300-350 gift card promo in a month or two and pick one up.

I got $300 gift card for 6 week old iPhone 8 Plus back in November 2017.

So just be patient. Gotta play the device payment games. I just pay off the phones after 15 days and eligible for another carrier promo.

Yet the iPhone is still slower in real world performance with its A11 Bionic, you mean the Iris Scanner which can’t be fooled unlike the incredible Face ID that cant unlock a phone with your face in a pillow? Some Hardware

Sure but the Samsung Note 9 isn’t close to workstation level performance. It may have a chip that shows benchmarks in the 8,000 range and be offered with up to 8GB of RAM but it isn’t really on par with a base MacBook Pro with similar RAM as a desktop computer. Samsung has always drowned their phones in RAM but it doesn’t really translate into a noticeable or any performance gain over a far lighter iPhone with a “paltry” 3GB of RAM. My iPad Pro 10.5 is still a more powerful device for desktop type performance and its only 4GB of RAM.

You guys are arguing about a phone:( Do you do the same thing about the cars you drive? Maybe we can get a real heated discussion going about McDonald's or Wendy's.

I know you’re being sarcastic because everyone knows Face ID is significantly more advanced hardware than Iris Scan which does not have 3D mapping so can easily be duped with a photo. You may think the iPhone is overhyped, fine. But don’t make statements like Samsung’s Iris Scanner can’t be fooled and is somehow more advanced and accurate than Face ID.

I should add, I am a fan of Samsung hardware and I respect that they push the envelope and have stated on here they certainly have elevated the smartphone market, but certain things they do are not in the same league as Apple-Face ID tech and the A series chip set are two big ones hardware wise.

I think they can backtrack. They were laughing about missing headphone jacks then followed suit the following year.

You know, people here talk about Dex like it was some major game changer which would revolutionise the entire smartphone experience. Outside of a bullet point in youtube unboxing videos, I haven't exactly seen it in use anywhere. Where are these people hooking up their phones to monitors and using them as desktop replacements?

I called it a gimmick from day one, and one year later, I wouldn't change a single word, because that's what it is. The whole desktop experience is already so limited to begin with that you are really better off with a dedicated laptop, and the accessories needed to make this work kinda defeats the whole point to begin with.

I find this is becoming a perennial trend, with critics playing down the strengths of an Apple product while magnifying the flaws, and doing the opposite for competing products (hyping up the features, even as they subsequently turn out to be duds, and minimising the flaws).

Feel free to prove me wrong, because from what I see here, the reality surrounding Dex is a stark contrast from the utopian computing vision being painted here in these forums.

I would guess in the privacy of their own homes and hotels, which you weren't invited. Did you expect to see a bunch of Dex Stands at your local Starbucks?

Dex is extremely niche. But it won't be for long, as Samsung just made Dex available without any stand/pad being necessary.

You know damn well, it's quite the opposite. Apple is always praised for implementing hardware and software features Android manufacturers had for years.

More like people see the beginnings of the utopian computing vision.

Funny, many of the complaints about Samsung are the same things people complain about with the iPhone. Brand loyalty is a fascinating phenomena.

I don't understand why people can't see the benefit of advancing technology. If it leads to a better user experience regardless of brand, why is that not a good thing? Who cares who did it first.

Why is brand loyalty seem to be more important?

Please go watch some videos of the phones using DeX and report back.

You cant do anything close to it on an iphone or ipad.

That is why the ram is there.again go watch some reviews of dex

The big screen phone - that everyone, including Apple, laughed at. Until they put out their own.

How much R&D does it take to make a big screen phone? Hardly innovative compared to what Apple has done when they first introduced the iPhone and every iteration thereafter.

Dex is useful for people who have external monitor. Dex will be useful during corporate presentations without having to use laptops. But yes, it requires external keyboard and mouse(Note 8 and Note 9 uses the screen as trackpad which really eliminates need of a mouse) but you can also use keyboard in the Note while connected in Dex mode.

Note 9 is far more matured product from Samsung. They try jackpot with pricing which might backfire. They undervalue their own products by giving heavy discounts, which are my primary complaints but as such Note 8 is really awesome mobile so far!

I don’t see Apple implementing a feature which requires a ton of other components to use properly.

So you don’t have a laptop, but expect to have a monitor, keyboard and mouse just lying around for you?

Or would it simply be easier to just connect your phone to the projector via an adaptor?
