I find this very hard to believe. I hugely doubt Samsung SOLD more than Apple.

You can doubt all you want, a company doesn't ship 27.5M units if it doesn't think it can sell them. It's a truly enormous number in comparison to last year.

Toyota sells more cars in the U.S. than BMW...

I'm pretty sure this doesn't make a Corolla a better quality car over a 3 Series.

Quality > Quantity

The Android fanboyism is delusion at best.

It has been reported on multiple occasions that Android phone usage (as measured by Internet traffic) far outpaces that of iPhones. Same goes for phone registrations. According to some people commenting in this thread those must be unsold Android phones dialing in from the unsold stock piles. You keep dreaming guys and maybe some day your dreams will come true.

Indeed.. only the most ardent of fans (I prefer not to use the phrase fan boys) will have the reality distortion field in full effect and come up with ways to justify the #s.

IE:
...
Shipped doesn't mean sold
...

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzz

We really don't have to justify the numbers. Apple sold more phones. Samsung shipped a bunch of phones that didn't/haven't sold. End of story. You are right about one thing. It's a big

It's cool. Enjoy your plastic piece of creaky crap Samsung Galaxy 10 with 4.891 inch curved waffle size screen that won't be supported or updated 6 months on with Ice Cream Chocolate Cookie Dough Sandwich or whatever other silly name Google markets to make the basement nerds happy.

shipped over 20 million smartphones in the third quarter, compared to Apple's announced sales

Shipped same as Sales?

Microsoft also shipped more copies of Windows than Apple SOLD copies of OS X. Do you now also doubt that Microsoft has nine times the market share that Apple has?

Unless those products are shipped in commission, it doesn't make any difference for the manufacturer. In any case, I already see more Samsung phones here in Germany than I see iPhones.

Slow in what way? Mhz? Ahhh... The Mhz myth!

If an o/s together with its hardware runs software adequately then the speed of the processors becomes irrelevant. Speed only becomes relevant for marketing..
"My phone is faster than yours".. on paper maybe but real life experience may be totally different. The performance is what counts, not raw speed, or numbers on specifications.

As long as the iPhone retains a healthy software / hardware eco system then Apple are doing just fine.

If 3rd party accessories and software start to dry up, then its time to worry - the platform is being abandoned.

No, the 3GS is just slow, period. Slow for the camera to open. Slow to respond to multitasking tray. Slow to open and close apps. Slow, slow, slow.

No, that was the Apple fanboyism. I switched from iPhone to Galaxy S2 and would never go back. The S2 --IS-- the better smartphone and the only competition that it has... comes from Samsung: Galaxy Note, Nexus Prime.

You buy an iPhone because you want a status symbol, but you buy a Galaxy because you want the best smartphone on the market. It's that simple.

Ice Cream Sandwich is a code name. Official name of OS is Android 4.0. Compare this to some company that somehow managed to officially name itself after a fruit. And yes, it has been confirmed by Samsung that Galaxy Tab 10.1 will get ICS.

This thread is about Samsung topping Apple in sales. Not Quality. So please, leave those kinds of post away from this thread because it makes you look stupid.

Apples and Oranges. You're just being contrary because I posted that. Whatever...

Ultimately - to me - I don't really care who sells more. I used what's best for me. And I encourage everyone to do the same. Whether that's Apple, Samsung, Nokia, whatever. The only right tech is the one that works for you. Everything else is just a pissing contest.

First, you wouldn't be posting all over this thread if you really didn't care. If you are that apathetic about it, why can't you admit that shipping a bunch of phones to warehouses doesn't equate to getting them into the hands of customers who want them? A company that is selling every phone it can ship (like Apple) reports SALES numbers - a company that can't move every phone (Samsung) reports SHIPPED numbers to hide that fact.

Second, Thanks for giving everyone permission to buy whats best for them! Whew! Glad you approve.

Stupid Samsung just does not understand the benefits of selling only one phone model. They have decided to add yet another model next year. Galaxy Skin will be released next year and will have a flexible display:

I wonder how many of those shipped samsung phones are sitting on shelves somewhere not being sold. Unlike the iPhones which have all been sold.

More importantly how much profit does each company make per unit. Ultimately that's the bottom line, not how many you've sold but rather if you are profitable.

People who keep repeating this must not be thinking at all. If Samsung where stuffing, how come they have INCREASING numbers quarter after quarter? You do realize that every single device sitting on a shelf is a cost not only to Samsung, but also to the vendor? Why would they be taking costs quarter after quarter after quarter? Face it, they are selling. Simple as that.

But not as open.

Give me a break.

If I give you a choice of 20 phones, all of which most people in this forum say are inferior to another selection of 3 phones, which would YOU choose? IF it is true that the iPhone is better than everyone of the other phones, then surely you would see more people opting for it regardless of how many other "inferior" phones are out there.

Anyway, I would love to see the sales figures of the iPhone 4 to the Galaxy S2 in the same time frame.

The iPhone 4 is the number one selling handset in the world. The iPhone 3GS is the number two selling handset in the world. There's your direct comparison.

Like as if apple never spins any numbers. Just look at their redic graphics and statistics during their keynotes.
Such as?

Is this going to be a repeat of 20 to 30 years ago?

Apple refuses to licence anything to anyone else, the PC wins the compute war and Apple virtually die, and would of were it not for some help from outsiders.

Have Apple learned anything from that, or over the next 10 to 20 years and we going to see history repeat itself and Apple dwindles down as it did before.

Hard to believe now, but when the Apple2 was out it was hard to believe then also.

Good story, as long as you ignore the entire part about Apple licensing the OS and almost dying. But yeah, good story.

What's your point? Everybody knows that Apple is a one trick pony. That's the way they do business and it's their choice. If Samsung continues to make progress at the pace they did it last year people will forget what iPhone is in a year or two.

You're delusional. Seriously.

Releasing a product days after the death of it's creator was bound to have an effect on sales. I guess the "4Steve" movement caught on pretty well.

Also, delusional.

It has been reported on multiple occasions that Android phone usage (as measured by Internet traffic) far outpaces that of iPhones.

And now you're just lying. iPhone absolutely crushes Android on internet usage.

You buy an iPhone because you want a status symbol, but you buy a Galaxy because you want the best smartphone on the market. It's that simple.

I'm absolutely shocked that you would think that. Really. Your shtick is getting tired.

Apple fanboy flip-flopping at it's best. When Apple was in the lead, the massive sales of the iPhone was touted as proof of how superior it supposedly is (it's still done for the tablet market).
Now that it's the other way around, that argument is suddenly dismissed as irrelevant.

Stupid Samsung just does not understand the benefits of selling only one phone model. They have decided to add yet another model next year. Galaxy Skin will be released next year and will have a flexible display:

And people say Samsung doesn't innovate.

Sure they do. They just disagree with your overall conclusion (i.e. that it is a better model for them).

Wow, I was not aware that 4+ million people bought their iPhone 4S because it is a status symbol. I think someone has been smoking some bad weed or drinking some bad Kool-Aid.

Your opinion. And your analogies are always head scratchers. You might think you're poetic or amusing. Trust me - you're not.

As for affordability - it's true - there are many phones less expensive than the iPhone. But at the same time - there are MANY phones which - for the user are the same or even more expensive than the iPhone.

But you wreak of elitist attitude - so I expect nothing less.

Stop resenting the fact that Apple doesn't appeal to everyone. It's not a negative or ding in Apple's "armor" - it's the real world. Enjoy your tech. That's all that's important.

And yes - I do think you resent ANY success ANY OTHER company aside from Apple has. It's quite sad.

And your point?

You realize you <> everyone, right?

It's amazing the vitriol you have for companies that you DON'T do business with.

I think your secret man-crush on *LTD* is no longer secret...

Good for Samsung. As for me, I'll continue to buy from an American company (Apple), not a Korean company (Samsung) that's subsidized by Google - who is more than happy to sell you out for advertising.

This is ridiculous. It's like saying that more grapes sell than cars. Of course more grapes sell, because there are MORE grapes on a vine.

Samsung is outselling Apple not because it makes a better phone or because it has a better product, but because Samsung makes a balls-ton of phones. I would be willing to put money on the fact that the iPhone outsells any individual Samsung phone by multiple times.

Not at all surprised.

Samsung is moving its feature phone business to cheap (Android based) "smart" phones and as such will add to their overall smart phone sales. This was to be expected. This idea that people are flocking to Samsung smart phones (or Android in general) because it's a better experience is an illusion. Some of these cheap Android based phones aren't even "smart". Android is being used to create new lines of feature phones, but are being lumped under the smart phone category simply because Android is being used.

Second thing to consider, if Apple had released the new iPhone in the previous quarter, it's safe to say, they would have held on to their lead. Apple's dip in iPhone sales is a trend, but not a trend towards falling sales... it's a trend in the sense that their sales figures ALWAYS drop before a new release. The iPhone attracts a much larger share of high end users than other phones and has a much longer product release cycle, so when a new flagship phone is about to be released, a lot of would-be buyers would rather wait.

Furthermore, I'd like to point out, Samsung is a company that sells 100 different devices, and uses three different platforms. They are the antithesis of a focused company. Their business model is to make a similar device for each device their competitors make. This is the least creative company in the world.
