people said this about android phones vs the iphone last december. two months later android was ruling the market and its still flying.

Android is ruling the market? Only if you take all of the Samsung, HTC, Motorola, hundreds of Asian knockoff companies, etc. and put them all in a bucket, and then compare just to iPhones.

iPhones are the most popular smart phones on the market. No other smart phone model compares.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8J2 Safari/6533.18.5)

With smartphones, people often often (in the UK at least) go for for an Android phone because of cost - they can get one free when upgrading their phone. I have quite a few friends who work in the retail phone industry (e.g. Store managers) who have all said that cost is a big factor - they tend to be Android users themselves, incidentally. When it comes to a tablet, the buying process is obviously different than that of a phone.

well seeing as BB makes all their own phones, you can easily group them all together just like iphone users group the iphone 4, iphone 3, iphone 3gs (etc) together. and BB beats them, moving past such a silly argument though.

For current market share, bb still has a lot of ground. Unfortunately, asp and per company revenue also matter, both things bb and the poor companies that backed android are losing badly. In that regard, Hp and nokia are the only ones left with real potential. Hopefully they can make something of it.

Ahh thanks for the explanation. It kinda made sense with the sarcasm but if you are serious then you kinda lost me on such an extreme comparison. Happy riding, err I mean happy agonizing torturous riding. ;)

As they say, "no pain, no gain."

imo no tablet will beat the ipad until their app store closes the gap with quality tablet specific apps. I think in 3-4 years android tablets will be a serous competitor to the ipad.

In three to four years Android will be dead. (Or dying). Microsoft is going to kill them with Windows 8. Apple will survive because of OsXI and their tablets will Boot Camp or VM Win8.

I don't think that's it anymore. Apple gets the credit for being the one who understood what Microsoft didn't in 10+ years of failed tablet marketing, that you need a tablet OS that even a moron could utilize. But now that this is understood it's not necessarily what is keeping Apple on top, if anything iOS is getting in the way of many things that Android OS can do with much greater ease. Both Android and Mobile Windows or whatever it's called are pretty easy to use and are only getting easier and easier as it's refined. iOS while being dead easy to use, is not really getting refined, although I'd like to have faith in Apple that they will prove me wrong with iOS5. Then again who is buying more tablets, us tech geeks or all the grandmothers who really just want to consume content?

I think the momentum of being a "cool" product to have and a "cool" company to support will continue to buoy Apple for a loooooong time, they have been nothing but genius in marketing their products like this. While power users such as myself may be seriously considering the Galaxy 10.1 because it does so much more than the ipad2 in the same (better) hardware package, this may not be so much a powerful draw for the grandmothers of the world. Android can't be discounted as a "cool" company though, and just as they caught up and surpassed Apple in the smartphone segment I think it's going to be a very interesting race where the consumers can only win due to the competition.

Grandmothers ? How about tech geeks that at the end of the day just don't want to have to **** with their tablet. Or those corporate, government, and home users that the iPads 256 bit AES hardware encryption is important to? Or those of us that would like a piece of the App Store pie ?

Thanks for the laugh. :D Are you a comedian for your day job? If not, you should look into that career field.

Lol Google's got some deep pockets, but even more than deep pockets they understand the market a LOT better than Microsoft ever did. Win8 is will be interesting to see, but thats neither here or now, and Microsoft has a penchant to bring every gun to bear, well after the party is over. Android is already well entrenched and I see it going nowhere but up.

As for grandmothers I was just generalizing, I've got an ipad2 and I don't consider myself a grandmother lol. But Apple has the pulse of the everyday non-technically oriented user and that's where Android and MS really need to strike.

So with MS and Apple having hybrid OS's, (optimized for desktop and laptop/tablet hybrids) you would actually go out and buy an Android tablet ? Buddy in three years or so, that's what you will have. Why do you think Google is pushing the Chome OS on laptops ? Trying to get a foothold in the 'Big Boy' OS. Hey look at what just got posted on the front page of Mac Roumors... Android is dying... Get over it.

Google just announced their "Ice Cream Sandwich" OS, the OS that will finally unify phone and tablet devices in one standard UI and software foundation. That's right, the Samsung device you are buying today is running an OS that will soon be superseded. What a mess.

Huh? My iPad 2 runs iOS 4 and after the WWDC, Apple will likely release iOS 5. That would suck wouldn't it!

i've been noticing that a lot of people here have been gradually preferring MS whenever Android gets mentioned.. why is it that just a few months ago and for years.. there was so much hatred towards MS, and now just because Android is the major competition.. MS is now recommended? how fickle some of you are

Just curious, but can you point out this mythical MS tablet OS, cause I have yet to see WP7 OS on a tablet, and Windows OS on a tablet is a joke. I take back my comment about you being a comedian. I think that you are just plain confused or you have your head up your ballmer.

As far as Android dying, unless M$ can manage to sell more than 50 WP7 phones or create a tablet worth a crap, Google isn't sweating to much. I take it you own a Kin and are still upset. ;) Windows Mobile division is dying. Get over it.

janet1 that is pretty messed up. i am a bike enthusiast (touring mainly my specaikity) so i know the feeling (somewhat)

I'm happy with my iPad, but this thing looks pretty nice. Google isn't going anywhere anytime soon so I hope this tablet is a success to give Apple a little kick.

Whether you like it or not, we live in a Microsoft world (I have an iPad, iMac, and a company supplied Windows laptop). There is plenty of software out there that is Windows only, and Windows dominates the desk top/laptop market. Heck, part of the appeal of Macs is that they run Windows well. Win8 is being designed to work on Arm and Intel CPUs. It's also being designed to have a touch interface. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out. Hmm, I got a choice between a Windows 8 hybrid tablet/laptop (Same OS as desktop, except a touch UI, Apple will do the same thing) and an Android or iOS tablet. Geeze, as much as I love my iPad...

I can tell you're not a CEO, no vision for the future. Windows 8. OSXI or whatever Apple will call it. You are correct that WP7 is dying. I'll give you a point for that. Now read the front page news. Why will Chrome OS work on a tablet ? Why are they only concentrating on cheap laptops right now? Go back a few days, Why is there rumors of Apple switching to ARM ? (I believe their desk tops will remain Intel, I don't buy that crap with everything going ARM). Think man think. Look to the future. Get a vision.

No confusion on my part.

PLS screen seems nice. no weird blotches or yellow tints

attachment.php

But isn't that noticable backlight bleeding in the top left and right of the screen??

Incidentally, our iPad 2 (which we've only had for a few days) shows no visible backlight bleeding, 'weird blotches or yellow tints'. If I turn the brightness up to 100% (and man it's bright!), turn off all the lights, and display a black screen (which is what people are doing to exaggerate the symptoms), I can see something similar to your photo, but it's ever so subtle. You'd never see it under normal conditions.

Because Windows Phone is lightyears nicer than Windows Mobile.

No it wouldn't. It will be a seamless change.

For Android users, however, it won't.

And you are sure of this because...

My HTC Evo downloaded 2.2 update over the air, installed everything, and kept all my settings/data intact. And while I was out and about. Not connected to computer. Show me an iOS product that can do that.

It has nothing to do with the method of updating, and everything to do with the ever-changing state of Android.

janet1 that is pretty fuked up. i am a bike enthusiast (touring mainly my specaikity) so i know the feeling (somewhat)

Hey I like touring too, and love riding centuries, going on cross country trips, and have a nice bike for that too. Only that bike's far more comfortable. You can load it up with racks and bags, and with nice thick tires, it rarely gets flats. My touring bike is steel, which is more flexible, providing more shock absorption, and with those thick tires and nice cushioned seat, no need for gloves or padded shorts.

but my touring bike doesn't fly like the wind, and you can't pick it up with your thumb and index fingers, to hold it over your head while running 3 flights of stairs. My racing bike really is that light.
