I've worked with Samsung for nearly 25 years now. I've watched them grow and grow, and become dominant in many sectors. This is just a bump in the road

Samsung's Apology from the initial incidents:

"To be clear, the Note 7 with the new battery is safe. The battery cell issue is resolved"

Sales of the Galaxy S8 when released based on these incidents... = down, down, down.

They screwed up pretty badly here. See here's the thing - now that people have received *replacement* Note 7 devices that have also caught on fire, I don't think anyone will believe him, even if what he says is true.

There are stilly plenty of uses for the Note 7 ....

Wow, that's aweful. They created this market segment with the Note phone and now due to some sort of design, or battery selection its causing this huge issue for them.

Absolutely not. Just thinking out loud. Is a bit strange though don't you think?

True that... I wonder if people from other countries are just not bothering to complain.

Although the cases reported have been only in the US, the article states that Samsung is also talking to Chinese and Korean authorities about the recall and stopping sales in those countries as well. If it was only specific to US, then I assume they would not do recall in other countries.

It is more hilarious that Samsung actually has "fans" though - a company who notoriously just make rather cheap devices at almost premium prices. I can understand being a Google fan or an Android fan - and there are lots of decent Android handsets if thats the OS you prefer - but a Samsung fan is just odd. There's nothing they do that excels in any region, or get "cultly" about.

Very true.

Simple, there are many members here whose own self worth seems to be directly tied to their choice of a consumer electronics product.

They've never accomplished anything on their own, so they are "winning" through their choice of a phone.

Truly bizarre behavior.

That makes it even worse, people getting hurt, losing their houses. I don't get why some folks revel in this, especially when its caused loss of property and injury.
