Was hoping Samsung would just stick with having a little bezel at the top and bottom to avoid the awful notch and or a hole for the camera. The S and Note line look great. Just do that for now. As for the headphone jack......who knows.

Thats not true, Apple mocked big phones and they did it later on. They mocked OLED and remain LCD as the better technology, now we have OLED on the flagship...and so on.

How does that negate what I said? Lol. Plus, they were right to mock OLED as it was at the time. It’s come a long way, and now that it’s good they implemented it.

Now, lets mock Samsung for catching up lol

Nah... Their the good guys. AT the end of the day someone mocks someone else, but they slowly adopt to it anyway..

Better late than never. Everybody wins..... eventually.

I too have a an iPhone 7, and the lack of headphone port is my one gripe. What really irks me about Apple's move is that ok, I have to use a dongle, and at the time Apple even supplied one, but there are no decent dongles that support headphone and charging simultaneously. It is deplorable, that Apple didn't even think to sell one, and that all of the ones on the market are garbage.
May I suggest you get one of these:
https://www.amazon.com/Mpow-Bluetoo...2-spons&keywords=mpow+bluetooth+receiver&th=1

I appreciate it may not be ideal for some, but it does give you the freedom of being tethered to the machine and I think you'll agree, that is a good thing.
It will allow you to charge your phone and listen to music at the at time.
Sound quality is identical because you are using the DAC in the phone whatever you use, and digital is very strict so it works or doesn't and f it works, it's always going to be identical. The DAC and the headphones speakers are the only parts that will make a big difference.
This model has an on/off button which makes it a lot easier to use, ( trying to see the colour of a button when your finger is holding it isn't ideal) and it will work while charging unlike some
I've had no problems with connection.
You can change tracks from the device and take and answer calls if you want.
You can use your expensive existing headphones without having to use new ones.
You can plug into your living room stereo or sometimes car, and play tracks from Apple music directly from your phone.
I've found them to be very useful, so maybe it will be useful to you?
If not then ok.

Despite the Galaxy S8s may not be their flagship model, it should be clear that - as some have mentioned already - in the end companies will copy Apple. They've made so much fun of Apple for doing something that will definitely become mainstream. We have entered the times where wireless stuff have become mainstream. I for one can stream music to my hearing aids, for example. Bit buggy sometimes, and definitely not the same quality as AUX, but I wouldn't notice anyway, considering that I am hearing impaired (without my hearing aids I'd have to put the volume all the way up to 50% to hear at least something, 75% to get decent volume through my ears).

Also, I don't understand how they can continue to claim to have an 'edge-to-edge' display, while there's still some kind of chin. And I hate that camera hole in the screen. :p

The Galaxy S8 was their flagship. This thread is about the Galaxy A8, a mid-range model offered in select countries. The Galaxy S9 is the current base flagship. The Galaxy S10 is due in the first half of 2019.

The A series of phones is a way for Samsung to experiment with new tech or software. It's not a premium phone series. These are sold in emerging markets. The A7, for example, costs around $335 and tops out at just under $450 at a higher end version of the A7.

This phone, according to what I found out earlier today, is sold in countries like India, the Philippines, Latin America, Brazil, Russia, Pakistan, Thailand, et al. These are either emerging or poorer markets that can make do with a less than stellar phone at a reasonable price.

I have had an iPhone 7 for over two years now, and I still think it was asinine to remove the headphone jack in favor of the Lightning connector.

At least Samsung is using a standard port - USB-C, so one adapter (or one pair of earphones) would work with any other standards based device. Apple is now eliminating the Lightning port in favor of USB-C, so now you have to have three different ways to connect headphones to a device in the Apple ecosystem. This is just dumb and sloppy.

Lightning was a transitional connector. Everyone knew it. The standard is USB-C. Apple should have waited with removing the headphone jack until they fully transition to the standards based connector on their iPhones and iPads.

USB C is terrible for headphones. iPad Pro users are going to learn that lesson quickly. No, not all USB C headphones work with every USB C port.

I love my Beats X, better than ANY wired earphones i have bought over the years, but i listen to mainly trance/dance/pop so i love deep bass and for earphones these deliver.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned about technology over the past several years it’s that eventually, everyone ends up copying Apple. :)
Yeah, other brands copied contactless payments, waterproof phones, accessible NFC, usb-c, bigger screens, oled screens, pencil support, swipe down for notifications, load apps from the developers website and so on from Apple.

I found a leaked photo of one of the early prototypes...

“How The Turntables?” What does that even MEAN? Oh dear.

I think you wanted to say “How The Tables Have Turned” but simply misheard the tired old cliche.

Cheers!

I am not an audiophile by any means but I do hear a big difference between wired and blue tooth headphones. I am holding on to my 6S+ with pure dorm grip until it dies..
It is extremely problematic to compare audio sources unless they are blind tested (preferably double blind) as so many real audio tests have shown. So, your anecdotal and highly subjective observations are worth, literally, nothing.

I am not an apple fan. I used to own Samsung devices but only for the fact that lot's of other people did too so the XDA community would support the phone for a long time (Had an S2 for 4 years and an S5 for another 4) But I am not a Samsung fan either.. I just bought a Pocophone for the same reason and because I really don't care about the looks but I really care about my wallet versus the performance I get..
But last time I checked, an A8 2018 had 250 Euros in my country ( I estimate A8s will come out at 350?) and the cheapest Iphone (Iphone XR) has 790 Euros! How is this article even possible? And I mean, I have seen it in other forums (android) as well, people for the sake of clicks and "news" compare totally uncomparable things.
Next flagship (S10) is reportedly not going to miss the headphone jack. So another full year of Samsung retaining it to the phone you pay a month's wage to get.. So how is this news? Samsung makes phones from 190 Euros upwards. Are we going to start comparing those to Iphones as well??
When this article can have a title like "Samsung Kills Headphone Jack in Latest Flagship After Years of Mocking Apple" then it will be relavant. Samsung's mocking ads compare galaxy s9 to X.
Please, compare comparable things.
