No thanks Samsung. I have an S5 for a work phone and really dislike it. The most annoying aspect is how sensitive the buttons, both physical and virtual, are (especially the home button). There have been many times in the last six months where I inadvertently moved or removed a widget just by putting the phone in my pocket. Granted, I don't passcode protect my phone...but still. And the OS is erratic...some apps load quickly and some are real s-l-o-w.

Figure it is worth a shot. Haven't used a Samsung phone since my Captivate when I swore them off. Hopefully they have improved a lot since then. Should be fun to play around with for a few weeks.

Seems like a good strategy to me. It won't pull away people that are happy with their iPhone's, but it might tempt those that are considering a switch. Giving a free trial has the potential to overcome some of the stickyness associated with changing device manufacturer. Because Apple has so many additional services, that integrate well with their phones, this stikyness is quite strong with Apple.

Anything that has the potential to keep Apple on their toes is good by me.

there wont be many people considering switch from iphone to Samsung... if any

It was apple saying no to bigger screens that gave Samsung an automatic advantage and the artificial confidence that came with it. Now that apple has sucked the wind out of their screen size sales, they are having to compete on actual innovation and it's not going as well.

What next can Apple finally say yes to?

The point is that will people return to android once used IOS? I don't think iPhone users should be the major potential user of them.

I'm confused though. It says it comes with an activated sim. Doesn't that mean it comes with its own service and I don't have to transfer my sim? Last thing I wanna do is screw something up with my sim and lose my unlimited data.

Unlimited data doesn't just magically fall off for any reason. That is only possible when changing your plan which you specifically agree to.

In the case of the best buy method, you agree to the plan change, but since best buy and other third party retailers don't have access to Verizon's systems, the plan change isn't done directly to your account and is instead linked to the sim card that gets sent out with your device. Since with the best buy method you don't ever use the sim card that comes with it, the plan change never takes effect.

In the case of the "4-ever" method, you're transferring an upgrade to another line and choosing the data plan for the line the upgrade was transferred to. Since you never selected a new plan for the unlimited donor line its not possible for it to get changed.

In the case of putting your sim card into another device, it's never going to just magically drop off. You aren't buying a subsidized device and you're not agreeing to a plan change.

I order mine, I just put in some random information and used my $500 credit limit card for that $1 charge. If don't return the phone I wonder how they will go after me.
Long time displaced NYer from Murray Hill here. You should know they've likely hired a guido who will kneecap you if you don't hand it over...

Nice try, Samesung. The only Android phone I'd use is a Nexus - I'm avoiding all proprietary forks that will see updates for 2-6 months before they're abandoned.

I really feel like Samsung isn't really focused on what's hurting them. Imo it isn't as much iPhone as is the multitude of android phones, cheaper than the galaxy phones yet offer close to similar functionality. They spend so much money and time on comparing to iPhone. It hasn't worked. iPhones are selling at record pace and now the likes of Motorola, lg, one plus etc are hurting Samsung imo

Iphone 4S and iPad 2 will receive iOS 9 with no delays, no bloatware. Wake me up when Android keeps 5 year old devices secure and up to date.

I see your point. But... five-year-old Apple devices, whilst up-to-date, become slow and laggy.
