I am an avid apple guy (watch/phone/MBP/ipad) but as a wireless engineer I also look at other devices and personally have a Surface Pro 4 and the Galaxy Tab S3. As most people say here its what works for you. Missing a basic mouse pointer to me in apple by now it just wrong. In Android it works really well even though I love my IPP with smark keyboard... if I am doing hard level work related items I can do them better with a mouse. I think samsung has a nice tablet here..I think their bigger problem is price. I know its a premium device BUT if they dropped the price to lets say 350, they would have way more sales of the units and more developers would look at fixing tablet apps on Android. They should make this nice premium device but make it at a much smaller price point than matching apple, since thats what they are doing. Yes the pen in included but still not the point. People will see the price, see apple at basically the same and ask why chould I choose the S4? And honestly there is really not enough features to push the needle in their direction.

I will prob still get one since as a wireless guy I like to keep different OS device on hand Incase I need them. Just wish it was cheaper for sure.

Didn’t try Affinity Designer yet, but I hear great things.

It's very good, with one caveat: if you do much brush work when using pixel-based layers, there's a fair amount of lag for certain types of media. It's currently not nearly as optimized for that type of work as things like Procreate or Pixelmator.

This isn't bad looking at all, but for the price I'd probably go for a surface Go, although I'm not a big fan of the Go either, but in this price range you can upgrade it quite a bit. Android has a very very bad Achilles heel when it comes to tablets, most of the apps have no tablet functionality and Google abandoned tablets. I'm sure Samsung made a nice effort to make Android tablet friendly, but there is nothing they can do about Google store apps not functioning well on a tablet.

New iPad Pro would be thinner. Sorry Samsung... They beat you again

I guess looks arn't everything :p

or...just get a windows laptop.

Exactly!

At that price, I can get a windows laptop/tablet/or some kind of combo/switcheroo type of device. Not that this isn't a nice tablet, but it's really trying to do too much: going beyond the tablet, and not enough: being a tablet.

Besides, any word if it runs Chrome OS or just a modded version of Android? It's time for Google and other Android tablet makers to just leave Android for smartphones and watches and put Chrome OS on their tablets.

And make them great tablets.

Samsung is offering a $150 Book Cover Keyboard alongside the Galaxy Tab S4, which can be paired with DeX to transform the tablet into a PC alongside a Bluetooth mouse, but it will also work with any Bluetooth keyboard and mouse option.

sounds more like competition for the Surface not the iPad. the mouse means they are trying to be a computer whereas the iPad is more for folks that actually don't need a "computer" to do what they want to do

I wish the iPads had OLED screens, that's really my only beef with them anymore.

i would agree with that for the Pro. support 4K HDR etc even

otherwise my beefs are more on the software side. I don't see why they can't move to a plug in system to reduce bloat in iOS with language support we don't need, plus adding templates, brushes, etc easier. and why can't I hand mark a face in a photo like I can on my computer or even add keywords etc

All I want is a better keyboard than that fabric ******** we have now with the iPad Pro.

i like the style of the keyboard and how I can spill stuff on it and just wipe it off. but I agree that they need to do a better version that doesn't fail like the current one. i think i've gotten my replaced like 7 times in two years. it's like two weeks before my 90 days is up the dang thing knows time is running out and dies. oh and I would love to have been able to drop another $20-30 on apple care that would have covered the Keyboard and my Pencil from failing

I would buy it if it had a home button, larger bezels, and a 4:3 aspect ratio.

Man, I just with Apple would build and OLED iPad... I’m not going to buy one until they do (for various reasons, but largely due to the reduction of harmful blue light that OLED offers)

DeX makes this a lot more tempting, but it feels overpriced for an Android tablet, especially considering Google seems to be killing Android on anything but phones for Chrome OS

So insecure, clunky, last year's hardware, and never going to be updated. How's this compete with the iPad Pro again?

Doesn't Apple include in the iPads last years processor too? This years iPad will get A11X while the new iPhones get A12.

So...

I think they’re catching up. Apple needs to watch out. I’m still an Apple user, but I’m loving the competition. I still think Apple won’t open the iPad for at least another 3 years, but I could be wrong.

The addition of mouse support may be an attempt to appeal for all the professionals that demand mouse support for iPad Pro.

tech companies don't understand that its software is where its at not hardware. People use Macs for OS X, they like the iPhone because of iOS. People who will never abandon the Windows platform are probably PRO Office Users.

I will not use data mining, security flawed, Google's Android.

I literally don't understand who would get this instead of an iPad. Even the entry level iPad is a better value, and costs almost half as this.

You can like Galaxy phones and prefer them to iPhone, but I don't see how anyone would think this is better than iPad.
People that don’t want an iOS tablet will buy it or maybe people that have Samsung phones and want a Samsung tablet.

If you want to connect a mouse to your tablet, be able to connect external drives. Via the usb C port or prefer the S pen over the Apple Pencil because of its features. Those people will buy. Or those who want to use their tablet in a desktop interface.

It won’t sell anywhere near as well as any of the iPads, even the budget one. However it’s good that there are still a options out there for people who want an android tablet.

This is more of a copycat or the iPad ...
bezel size,
keyboard case,
BT Mouse connection - ok maybe in variety they may have Apple beat; for now.

Just another tablet in their plentiful plethora of tablets that get ignored for feature updates and security updates after the first 6mths. Don't worry Samsung consumers, you can always buy the next model to alleviate all your security woahs.
[doublepost=1533155221][/doublepost]

Well Apple had them pay for the 'organ grinder' so now they can ;) lol
Samsung have has keyboard cases for years before the iPad Pro ever came out.

I had a galaxy tab 2 10.1 in 2012 and it had a Samsung made Keyboard case.

You could say the same about the iPad Pro. I could have got a windows laptop or MacBook Air for the same price I paid for my iPad Pro and the keyboard and the pencil. Yet I didn’t want any of those devices.

Universal like ignorance.
To make it clear for you: in case of iPad there is something to be affected, i.e. performance. What we can not say about the Android tablets in question that don't get an update for years, thus becoming unusable - amongst others - because of the incompatibility of applications.
It takes years for apps to become incompatible due to lack of software updates. It would take about 4-5 years. The issue is whether you get value for your money if you only get one software update and you’ve spent £600/$650.
[doublepost=1533192089][/doublepost]
The tablets in question ran Gingerbread (2.3). Applications either updated, but would not run under 2.3 or could not be updated at all because of OS incompatibility.
When the most important applications were affected in the manner described above time came to give up on the tablets.
[doublepost=1533161572][/doublepost]
There was no intention to explain to you anything, but to point out the irrelevance of a statement.
This is on OS from 2011. Even early iPhones and iPads were not great in terms of OS updates and app compatibility going forward.

The point is app incompatibility is not really a consequence of a lack of software updates. I would see security and value for money as more important issues.

Some people use windows because they think it is more versatile and better value for money. I wouldn’t use windows but there are many non pro users who are happy using it.

ios is my phone and tablet OS of choice but most of the world are using android, most of them due to its cost but some actually prefer it.

I just don't understand who would want a machine like that.

Although I've fallen out of love with Apple some time ago, I'd never pick an Android tablet over an iPad. Hell, I think I'd rather have the non-pro iPad than this monstrosity.

I mean, at least for Windows tablets you can make the argument that they're a full computer (though why one wouldn't get a laptop instead is beyond me).

The main argument against Android tablets now is a game-theoretical one.

Say everyone switched to Android tablets now, we'd all benefit from more competition in the market. But each individual getting one at this point is just buying an inferior product.

TL/DR: just buy a god damn laptop.

People on this topic haven’t heard of a network Hard Drive like Synology Nas. It completely eliminates your need of a personal computer....and it’s a lot easier/faster to move, copy, rename etc files and download torrents etc with synology apps compared to a Mac/Windows pc. Also Nas is ALWAYS online and working reliable and any time you can view your stuff everywhere you choose to without converting. To be honest these days I don’t even use my iPad....I do everything I need from my iPhone and if I want a larger screen I just sent it on my Sony android tv.
