Samsung: look at you idiots waiting in line like idiots. Oh man you idiots are using those low resolution tablets at the spa?? Wow you idiots are wall huggers!! Hey how come you idiots don't want our big screens, we've had them for two yrs :(

No wonder Samsung is losing sales and profits rapidly. This marketing campaign makes no sense.

Where did Samsung call users idiots? You are reading way too much into this. You sound like those PC people getting offended at the Mac vs. PC add. Sheesh!

They're comparing themselves to the strongest competitor. I don't see how this makes them weak any more than the Mac vs PC ads showed that Apple was weak. :|

The biggest difference was that MAC vs PC campaign did a few key elements different.

1. It made fun of the generic PC user, where as Samsung clearly attacks Apple by brand.

2. Apple was an underdog with close to no marketshare and attacked all PC brands. Still are in the PC-market i think.

3. It had an obvious comical twist to it, music / actors.

4. Samsung as far as I know sells more phones than anyone, (maybe not in the segment Apple is in) and as such they are kicking downwards.

The Difference is....

It's funny no one likes these ads. I think they're not that different from the Mac vs. PC ads..

The difference is that when Apple ran the Mac vs. PC ads, the PC deserved all of it. The ads cut right to the core of everything that was wrong with PC. And the PC audience was fed up with their PC's. The Samsung ads are trying to do the same thing, but instead they are doing it to an established, successful, and fantastic product. And Apple customers are very satisfied and happy according to survey after survey.

So while the Mac vs. PC ads got people to lose their fear of trying something different, Samsung ads come off as coming from a scared competitor willing to stretch the truth to prove a point that is not really there.

Samsung has not learned that rule number one in advertising is there has to be a basic ring of truth to what you are saying or you better find another way to say it.

I looked at his post history. His posts are actually pretty boring. He just says the same thing over and over lol.

You didn't look back far enough. I bring great humor and entertainment value to this forum. I come here to learn and also to have fun. It's amazing what a sense of humor can do. :p

Source? Or is that just your opinion? And when did Macs take over the market from Windows pc's? I must have missed it since all of those people hated their pc's and quit buying them because of the Apple ad.

No you're right, I like humor. And I didn't go very far back your history. The stuff I saw however was boring, and mostly a bunch of "when Apple does so and so, people here will love it"

Samsung still don't understand how advertising works. Trying to insult users of a different product, is not working. It even puts me off buying a Samsung vacuum cleaner (which looks almost like a Dyson).

Barring maybe 1 Mac vs. PC ad, they didn't attack the users. They attacked personifications of the products. But more importantly, they tried to be funny. When they were, they worked, but when they weren't they were absolutely groan-worthy.

Samsung's ad attacks the users it wants to buy its products (something which worked a few years ago when anti-Apple folks were desperately looking for a reason to justify their purchases, when Android was terrible, but doesn't work as well today, because Android is good, if not, IMO as good as iOS, iPhone and the retail and app ecosystem Apple has).

Even worse, Samsung ads don't even try to be funny, and just go straight for smug, which is what the Mac vs. PC ads were at their worst.

Good summary. I was trying to recall what was so different about the two examples. I was a Windows user during the Mac vs. PC ads, and didn't mind them. When Samsung started their ads, they were pretty openly mocking Apple users, and that smug attitude is definitely what I primarily hate about them.

i think apple's main focus is on things that actually make the phone more useful and to solve everyday problems (such as typing in that annoying 4-digit code many many times a day). I think the focus next will be on really high battery life, how exactly ? who knows but probably via kinetic energy and/or solar panel built into screen and/or a fuel cell.

I already find the 5S 4" screen a stretch for my thumb compared to my old 4S 3.5" screen - so I hope further developments to iPhone hardware make there way to the current screen size as well.

They made fun of users who stand in lines, made fun of users with lower resolution tablets, and made fun of people who need to charge their phones. No they didn't actually call them idiots, but I'm not a big fan of being obtuse and pretending that they weren't insulting the users.

Has nothing to do with being offended, it's just a silly marketing strategy to spend two yrs bashing the users and then saying we've been here all along

You've missed when Renzatic, myself, and a few others get on a late night roll. :D You are correct, I have posted a lot of that recently as the tide has changed as we get closer to the iPhone launch. I also think the same will happen with Beats too. It seemed to be the consensus that Beats weren't good headphones, etc, and I have a funny feeling that will change. Same for hi rez music if and when Apple makes it available on iTunes.

The people who are offended by this are not going to switch to a Samsung phone whatever ad Samsung puts out. This is not who they are targeting. They are targeting the ones who are on the fence, not the ones who are entrenched.

I still don't understand why anybody cares a whit.

I'm sure I'm missing something incredibly important....

When you figure it out, send me a pm. I'm missing it too. I have no idea why I'm supposed to be enraged that Samsung made fun of the iPhone.

Is Samsung an Apple fan? I mean, they copy everything Apple does, it doesn't matter if it's logical or not and then they bash them like there is nobody but Apple on mobile industry.

I think Samsung's ads are clever and it's entertaining. They're always about things that don't affect me, which is why I'm still using an iPhone. With the rumored SGS5 Prime and barrage of ads, its clear that Samsung is trying to stop the iPhone 6.

On the flip side, it's clear that Apple is trying to appeal to users that do want a larger screen phone. At the end of the day, a large screen isn't innovation especially if Chinese companies have no problems making large screen KIRFs all day.

And that's why it's a stupid campaign. Why wouldn't you want to target the entire user base?

I disagree, if an ad successfully makes a user of a product look stupid and I was following blindly like a good majority of the non tech population. Then I would avoid that product in fear of looking stupid. Nobody wants to look stupid or uneducated, and if samsung makes iPhone users feel stupid for using an iPhone, then I am sure some people will switch over in fear of being made fun of by there friends. Espically if they don't know specs and aren't techy, the only thing they have to go off of is what there friends say.

Seriously - what moron gives a damn what a SAMSUNG advert says? Maybe it influences people in the opposite way - after that dreadful Samsung Gear stalker advert, showing a girl that you wear a Samsung watch will likely get you preemptively slapped.

It's funny no one likes these ads. I think they're not that different from the Mac vs. PC ads..

If you were around for those commercials they were all about how you should hang out with cool Justin Long and how your buddy windows is kind of awkward and can't do as much or have as much fun.

Samsung's commercials berate the consumer for choosing Apple. They reaffirm their core customers' belief about the weak Apple sheep who can't think for themselves while alienate iPhone owners who dont prioritize the things Galaxy phones do better.

And it looks like their strategy is not working from the latest Samsung earnings report. Samsung will probably step up this type of ad even further as the iPhone 6 launch gets closer.

And I bet he will be the first person to post "I told you so" when he sees someone post "... the greatest thing since sliced bread". He is clever, I will give me that.

I've never posted I told you so. No need to. I know what I read here. :)

There will be no need for Scruff to post an I told you so. That type of behavior is beneath a man of his character and stature.

Me on the other hand? I have no moral rudder. I crave the self righteous indignation afforded to me by pointing out that Scruff was (will be) right and everyone else will be wrong. Am I riding his coattails? So. I will be the first person to post that he told us so. And I will become Kardashian famous without having to sleep with Ray J.

p.s. Everyone already knows Hot Pockets are already the greatest thing since sliced bread.

/secretly wonders how many smiley faces will be needed to prove this is a joke.:D:D... ... :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

News flash Samsung: I don't want crappy Android software, or your terrible TouchWiz overlay.

I have to confess that whilst most of my kit is Apple my phone is a Galaxy. I like Android and I like my 4.3 inch screen. Now this is where I'm out of step with civilisation (allegedly) I find the iPhone screen just that bit to small but have no desire to go above 4.5 inch maximum. I actually prefer 4.3 inch. I'm afraid the rumoured iPhone 6 at 4.7 inch is just to big and at 5.5 inch, well forget it.

It is for this reason I have actively been looking at the Sony Z1 compact.
