Do you know the meaning of the word pundit? Be careful not to give a stupid reply. It's derived from a language which is dying/almost dead.

There's nothing wrong with it. It's derived from Sanskrit. There's nothing wrong with that, either.

"Dignity" is derived from Latin.

What are you trying to prove?

What makes me laugh is this.. Yeah, it has a bigger screen but resolution is a LOT lower than the iPhone (480x800) so text etc actually looks worse. What's the point in having a larger display with lower pixel density.

Plus it's Android which is ugly and slow.

I'll stick with my 4S thanks and you can have your plastic crap.:apple:

reality bites

Hey, Apple stock let me retire at 45; but I will never give up my new Samsung until you pry it from my cold dead hands. It's just a better phone.

But keep buying Apple stuff folks, please. I've got grand kids I want to leave a trust to.

:p

Maybe Canada is different (toronto particularly). Macbooks plague starbucks. On campus as well but not as much.

You can't walking to a Starbucks in the UK without seeing some hipster pretending he's a musician drinking his over priced coffee on his mac with his over styled hipsterish beard.

...and in the case of their bout-out compatriots, homophobic in order to even get noticed.
...
Except that Samsung is attacking Platinum tech consumers - precisely the kind they want...

Are you saying Samsung have been putting out homophobic marketing?

And on the other point, I don't see this ad as an attack on anyone other than vacuous rich kids who blindly queue up to buy any and every new apple product without so much as a 'test drive'.

Assuming you mean "Platinum tech consumers" to mean technologically savvy, deep pocketed, considered purchasers of high performance (and high price) equipment, I don't think this ad targets them at all - they wouldn't be queuing up on day one would they?.

The vast majority of iPhones are bought just because of its perceived desirability. The intention of the ad is throw a little bit of doubt into the ether. To say, "Maybe the iPhone isn't as cool as you thought."

Someone correct me if I'm wrong here, but if I were interested in this phone and want to stick with my AT&T coverage I couldn't even get the 4G speed they are talking about?

Per their own spec sheet it is only HSPA+?

http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones/SGH-I777ZKAATT-specs

Not only that but their bigger display is of lower resolution then my iPhone 4(S)?

But I'm sure it excels with the camera, voice command and recognition, and game capabilities right? It doesn't?

I think I'm going to go wait in that line in the commercial.

Too bad it isn't over priced...

People are really stupid. Especially the ones who say our coffee is either a. Burnt, or b. overpriced. Why people think these ridiculous things is beyond me. Forgive us please for ethically sourcing the beans so everyone has a fair wage. Dunkin Donuts does the same, and their coffee isn't that much cheaper than ours. Sure the brand is playing in slightly there, but not by much.

The overall price of coffee beans has also risen over the years several times. Just the way of the world pookie.

For some reason people think spending more on quality is foreign to them. I'm reminded of the saying you get what you pay for.

Quality is the less objective element here. Ours is largely more expensive because we pay the farmers we source the beans from fairly.

Even as an iPhone guy, I thought the ad was good:D

The Galaxy S2 is a good phone, no doubt. Maybe the S3 will be the one to tempt me away from the 4S?

That was a brilliant ad, IMO. For one, it was nearly dead on about the ridiculous fanboy-ism that surrounds the iPhone, while making it look like a satire. And I think it also hit the target just right - Samsung isn't targeting the Apple-blind who stand in line for days on end for an iPhone launch, but the opposite - the people who think doing such a thing is plain stupid. Reinforcing that view while advertising their competing product seems very effective to me. Bravo to the marketing team at Samsung.

Just boring marketing.

... and as far as overpriced coffee goes... Starbucks is overpriced for the actual quality of espresso they serve. A good shot of espresso is an art and Starbucks is incapable of this art with their automated machines.

I have owned an iPhone for the last 2 years and I've just decided to buy a SGS2 instead of a new iPhone. Not because of the ad, but because it's just better....

Agreed. I love the ad. I also love my apple products to a near fanboy level. The thing is apple stuff has earned my respect over 25 years. I do not agree with every thing they do but time after time I have seen them make decisions that bothered me and in the end watched them being right and me being wrong about them The thing that makes apple products great is not specifically that they are better on paper but there is a consistency that they bring to user experience that you just can't find anywhere else. That is why there is both a truth to the Samsung and to the annoyingly "touchy, feely, groovy lifestyle" ads that apple does as well.

My roommate is a PC guy with a basically visceral loathing for everything apple has a samsung phone and he is constantly giving me **** about my apple products, and my devotion to them but I recently bought his little girl an iPad and set it up and stuck it in his hands for a while so that he could get a feel for it and explain the features when he gave it to his girl himself.

I don't go on a whole lot about the merits of apple stuff but as he used the thing is was just "ooohh" "cool," "oh wow", "cool", "beautiful", "slick" all day.

And what do you know? For his next phone he is sort of leaning toward an iPhone.....

Everything is true. The samsung really is cooler... on paper... and the iPhone really is cooler... in real life.

Good real life story.

What is going to be funny is where there is still going to be mile long lines around the Apple stores when the 2012 iPhone comes out with a 4 inch IGZO display which offers superior battery life, viewing angles, 330 ppi, and colors.

17 pages lol.

Good job Samsung!

There is really no relationship between number of comments on a tech site about an ad and the effectiveness or impact of that ad.

We do not represent the bulk of the market. Yes, it is a reaction that you're seeing, but it is not necessarily substantive. We tend to discuss many things at length around here, from the insignificant (which we sometimes magnify out of proportion) to the serious. And our reactions do not necessarily reflect any wider, discernible reaction that has enough strength to make itself felt.

The truth will be seen and felt in the numbers.

Wow. I guess Samsung's commercial hit a little too close to home for some people and their butts really got hurt.

Was it funny? Meh, sorta. Was it accurate? You betcha. That is how most of the rest of the world views you iFolks.
