Actually, after pondering about this ad some more, I've done a 180. This ad might be a stroke of genius.

Even if it is not designed to sell Samsung phones in itself, it is helping in creating the perception that the battle is Apple vs. Samsung and not Apple vs. Everyone else. This ad combined with ongoing legal-battles and press might help Samsung appear as the flip-side to Apple. This probably won't affect Apple's sales, but it might skyrocket Samsung's mindshare and with that increase their sales. If this is their planned strategy and they can pull It off, then color me impressed!

The youtube community REALLY dislikes Apple.

Anyway I think its good and more companies should come out after apple on their pricing all the way down to their dirty tactics here and there. Makes people ask questions and thats a good thing. Possibly could make Apple get better as well in aspects many here at the later parts of threads know they could be better at. Choice being #1.

Actually someone should call out samsung and their WRETCHED customer service.

Still wouldnt touch Android personally, but the GS2 is a nice phone. If it had webOS though...hmmmmm

Happy thanksgiving and black Friday peoples.

What a stupid ad, it's not like the Android fans don't queue up for hours to get their phones:

(@ Galaxy Nexus launch)

The only difference is they pick their noses in public:

(just kidding on this last point, but true photo)

Samsung would do better to spend their advertising money showing off their product, not making fun of the other's community. But they've made their choice.

Personal attacks and name calling seem to be the typical Android fanbase modus operandi in many threads - even those unrelated to Android - so Samsung it not really being that original.

Gruber is one of the biggest apple fanboys in the world... he's only trailing david pague, bgr and the guy from techcrunch and the technobuffalo guy...

Looks like there are a lot of pundits who are big Apple fans. Can't really blame them.
samsung is mocking hardcore apple loyalists and targeting the fence riders. they released a second ad mocking the "there's an app for that" thing apple started.

Yes, people wait in line to get the newest Apple gadget. This has been the norm for years. It's a badge of honour for Apple - it's hard-earned, and would certainly be a huge prize in terms of mindshare and brand power for any tech company. Are you jealous Samsung?

We're seeing Samsung attempting to differentiate themselves from the vast ocean of Android devices that clog mobile retail.

But Samsung isn't Apple. Nor will the next Apple (if one is out there) be Samsung. There can be no Apple-like experience with a universally-licensed OS, no matter how low the competition has to get in order to convince people otherwise.

I have a different take on this. I think that Samsung is saying "we're never going to change the religious fanatic's mind" so they are playing to the "anything but Apple" crowd. There is also probably a significant fraction of iphone owners who are not religious and can be tempted by another product, or who are already uncomfortable being labeled as an apple fanatic. By the way, I use an iphone.

You think ?

I'm pretty sure the "hardcore Apple fanatic" is a minority. iPhone buyers in general aren't foaming at the mouth Apple "fans".

Heck some of us iPhone/Mac users get labeled as haters around these parts.

if i knew nothing about the rivalry or even cared, and wanted to window shopping for a celphone, this ad wouldn't make sense at all. Why can't samsung continue creating ads what makes it's consumer products great and feel intimate, instead of poking competitors, or fans of competitors....and with the holiday season coming...

apple's product ads caters the general public, well except for few but that was the past..

...very simple....

Since this thread has started I've found myself occasionally coming back to it, particularly when bored and there's no other "news" that interests me. I'm still amazed at how many people are taking this ad personally. Lighten up people. It's marketing. I think the ad is likely doing what was intended. It wasn't intended to move the hardcore Apple folks to Samsung, it was made to create a stir. Looks like they accomplished this as this ad has gone viral. Stereotypes exist because, well, they're true. I think this ad nails it. I enjoy my iPhone 4S and this ad doesn't change that.

Spot on. I've seen this ad posted on quote a few sites over the last few days, so no matter what you may think of the ad itself, the Samsung marketers have certainly got the exposure they were seeking. Fair play to them.

the ad is clearly doing what it intends to do

which is to alienate the bulk of apple's buyers from the apple girlscouts. the girlscouts are the ones that stand in line for days, read forums like this, evangelize apple to their friends, call steve jobs 'steve', talk about their phone as if its an important lifestyle decision, etc

most mac owners, whether they realize it or not, probably find mac girlscouts as insufferable and embarrassing as non mac owners do

this is why the ad is smart. it mocks these people, yes. because samsung was never going to sell phones to them to begin with. its a non-starter.

but mac girlscouts aren't the people who buy mac. people buy apple as a status symbol, and will gladly move on to the next thing once they feel stupid enough buying apple. its a luxury item, a brand, and can be replaced with a number of other things

anyways, if people here seem mad, its because the ad mocks them specifically.

Spot on. Seems like some are trying to over-analyze or move goal posts because they are personally offended.

Looks like there are a lot of pundits who are big Apple fans.

blah blah blah...

Yikes! Surprising for such seemingly ineffective advertising zealots like you keep returning to defend something that doesn't need defending. Looks like the ad must have struck a nerve with you personally.

being a fan of a mac or iphone doesn't mean being biased. gruber and the rest are biased they will ignore flaws or mistakes made by apple and destroy another company for doing the same things.

bgr is known for this he'll review an android device and rip it especially if its a 3g phone yet apple released a 3g phone and he said nothing.
gruber was jobs' friend he is in the apple distortion field.
the techcrunch guy will blatantly lie to make apple look better and the technobuffalo guy will do the same. these poundits will be quick to claim apple is being ripped off when it comes to designs and apps but when apple rips of things they are silent and become cheerleading girls who see no wrong in what apple did. those pundits are biased.

there are pundits who use apple products who give fair reviews and don't brown nose apple but it seems as u just did many apple hardcore zealots will grab a gruber or someone else who posts a view in line with yours and who worships apple as you do. basically i can see why the ad offended you... you are who it mocked.

you're reading too deeply into samsung's ad, they made a mock ad calling out things apple does/did "the app for that ad" b/c to this day there are iphone users who spread false info and say android does not have the apps apple does, in the past 2 days alone i've read in this thread iphone users saying what android doesn't have then i pick up my android phone and laugh b/c those people were wrong but they are trying very hard to discredit android.

samsung isn't trying to be apple no one is they have their hands in the apple pie since they supply parts they have 3 different OSes and android moves big numbers for them. they are successful and in some parts of the world they get big lines but android users really don't do lines. WE preorder from home and we aren't fanatical to the point we want to be online for days/weeks/hours when the item will be there days/weeks/hours later buying a iphone on release day is not like buying concert tickets, concerts won't around for that artist so if you do camp out its worth it. camping out for an iphone/ipad is just...intense.

samsung mocked that. and it did its job it started a conversation. and separated the fans from the zealots. so now an on the fence buyer will look at both sides and the people who rep both and decide who they want to be associated with. casual android users, casual iphone users or the overwhelming intense fanatical apple is a religion, steve jobs in God and the i-devices are the tools of worship zealots.

successful ad in many ways. and none out of jealousy.

Say what you will about the head of Google, Samsung, Apple, Moto, none of them had the passion or drive as Job's did. People constantly referencing the Apple 'religion' might be over simplifying Apple customer's devotion and reasons for it. Go back to the first ipod and pick up it's competitors at the time-garabge in comparison. Iphone and it's competitors at the time, garbage. Ipad and it's competitors at the time of launch-laughable garbage. It's not even a fair race most of the time. Now with the iPhone 4S and other devices? It's a much closer race. Nothing comes close to fit and finish of an iPhone. Glass, metal frame, etc. They are falling behind though with the smaller screen-I know Job's did not want to isolate or fragment by going bigger-but they will have to or be left behind. I am ok with the iPhone not being cutting edge, becuase that almost never means perfected or refined in a way that surpasses all competitors, but it is time to move the iPhone along a bit quicker.

Does having a non-creative job preclude one from being creative?

Great point, and I don't get why Samsung choose to ridicule baristas of all people.

Top baristas are actually very talented people with no shortage of skill and creativity to juggle all the details and flavours.

Plus I know at least one who plays sax in a band as a part time thing, and he's pretty good.

I guess Samsung doesn't understand people can be more than just their job description.

This is the real travesty of the commercial. Who wears a scarf without a jacket? Honestly.
