Yes. All valid arguments. No headphone jack is why my wife went with Samsung and gave up on Apple. I plan on doing the same when my iPhone dies.
I don't really remember the last time I used the headphone jack.
We all once thought we cannot have a laptop without CD drive, but here we are.
And btw, you can still use the wired headphones (just a dongle is what it takes)!

Yes wires are antiquated, as are horse drawn carriages and the CD player.
Ah yes, the argument of the ‘intelligent’ man, because you said so.
Equating CD players with a horse drawn carriage shows your ignorance in this field too by the way. Just check out any hifi monthly publication.

Just like American politics, bashing the other side instead of showing off their own good features.

...Sadly, this is not so. Samsung has the better phone. This is not 'ego' or 'brand ambassadorment', it just is better.
Clearly “better” is subjective. While you have to be comfortable with your phone of choice, your account is anecdotal and subjective. Not objective. iPhones aren’t for everyone. Good luck going forward.

Makes sense. So you mention completely bezel-less. Were Samsung able to put the front facing camera tech under the screen? I hadn't seen anything about it, but to do that and a fingerprint scanner under the screen would be quite the accomplishment.
I don’t know how they are going to do it. However all the rumours are saying it will be bezeless so we will have to see how they have done it if it’s true.

Yes but when it's Apple doing it, it's a "genius campaign", "I love these ads", "they are sooooo right", etc.

"PC" is not a brand. Is just a way of saying "the rest of computres that are not Apple". Imagine a Samsung campaing that does the same "with every other smartphone that is not Samsung"; there.

It's really gross how many people on this site seem to feel personally attacked whenever Apple is criticized. Seriously guys, get a grip on your lives.

I love Apple products and I thought these ads were hilarious.

It’s funny to me because they bash Apple themselves constantly on here but don’t like it when somebody else does it.

My
Never see a S9 in the ad. Not sure how effective this type of ad is. [...]
That's what I thought as well – you see Apple's logo and the clean interior of an Apple Store but you don't see any Samsung product whatsoever. Imagine you see this ad on TV with many more ads before and after – what will stick..?

I very much disdain mocking ads.

I think the most and only healthy way to promote a product is to showcase its features and advantages. Mocking competitions is immature in my opinion and it only makes the advertisers look weak, whether it's done by Samsung, Microsoft, Apple or any other company for that matter.

As I said elsewhere the reason ads like these are made is because they work. People say that they don’t like them but when sales are analyzed before, during and after an attack campaign the commercials worked. Usually they worked much better than other types of ad campaigns. Only if your ads can be proven false or you keep beating the same issue over and over do attack ads lose some of their effectiveness. Some, not all.

As a buying public, we say one thing but actually do another. If attack campaigns didn’t work companies would stop making them. They haven’t stopped.

sales numbers or not, iPhone is still king of the high end smartphone. Profits tell a better story of customers' perception (they're willing to pay a premium on the perceived better product)

The point is that Samsung is not struggling in the phone market at all. Back in the switcher/Mac-PC ad days, Apple was still struggling pretty hard to get a solid foothold in the computer market. If they were to run similar ads today, I'd call it insecure and bullying.

Samsung is the underdog here. These ads if anything, are a complete rip off of the mac vs pc ad.
Baffling how Apple fans don't see this.

Samsung is doing a great job.

They are doing a great job. But I'm confused as to how you see any analog between Samsung in the 2018 phone market versus Apple in the 2006 PC market. They are demonstrably different situations. Apple had no foothold in either the low- or high-end market with PCs, and this was prior to the introduction of the iPhone and when consumer interest in the iPod had hit a plateau. They didn't have any compelling reason for people to switch and were pushing hard for that.

In fact, in 2006, their market share was slipping every quarter and Steve Ballmer even joked about how their relevance was a possible rounding error. You can't make similar jokes about Samsung in the phone market. They're clearly the dominant player in terms of market share. Whether the company can translate that over to profits is a whole other issue and very a complex one that doesn't negate their sales numbers.

They are, by no measure, an underdog. No offense, but that's just a bizarre assertion. It's like saying McDonalds is an underdog because Burger King makes more profits from chicken nuggets. o_O

The reason the old I’m a pc/mac commercials worked so well was because Apple was the underdog. At least in terms of market share. Not so with Samsung phones.

I’m generally of the opinion that companies should showcase their own products. Even Apple.

Apple has a 24 hour store in NYC. At MOST it would have taken you 45 minutes by Subway to get there.

They didn't have the double dongle. And they don't pickup the phone, so could not call before trying them. Waste of time. Ended up at Macy's of all places. Plus, the point is that it is STUPID to have to waste time tracking down a part that is the product of a company's sheer arrogance.

How truly low can Samsung sink?

The lowest form of marketing, bash your rivals. Truly vile.

Oh brother. Then you must thin there just so many, filthy, vile companies out there. Yes, truly disgusting.

I see. So the market leader is not allowed to run commercials like that. Makes a lot of sense.

God help me. Was I really one of these Apple fans in my past life?

Never see a S9 in the ad. Not sure how effective this type of ad is. Can't see the average consumer following this. It's just dumb advertising.

Everybody knows Samsung for popularizing the phablet so there's no need to show it. Apple, on the other hand, is the originator of the 3.5" iPhone that's now copying Samsung phablets.

Apple will NEVER sell as many phones as Samsung.
Yeah, we've already been through this. Apple has sold 78M iPhones in 90 days 2 different times, and Samsung sold around 77M in the same quarter 1 of those times....so Apple has done it before.

And remember, Samsung mostly sells junk under $200, not all Galaxies in their unit sales. The $100B in iPhone sales in the first 2 quarters of F2018 dwarfs anything Samsung does from a revenue perspective and it's not close on the profit side. Apple doesn't sell low cost smartphones that pad unit sales for Samsung. We already know Apple makes over 90% of the smartphone profit...

suggesting you can 'bully' Apple is ridiculous.... Apple is the leader in the market...

They're clearly the dominant player in terms of market share. Whether the company can translate that over to profits is a whole other issue and very a complex one that doesn't negate their sales numbers.

No i don't think it's bizarre at all... the iPhone is a crazy class of product in itself. Whenever a new iPhone comes out EVERYBODY knows. and EVERYBODY would be interested in why that new iPhone is the best - what new features does it have? EVERYBODY would want to know the answer to that question, not just lurkers of MacRumors... that is incredible, no other consumer product enjoys that luxury of leading brand perception. That's why they can make so much margin (profit) out of these things.

A new Samsung? Ask any normal person out of these forums and you'd be hard pressed to find someone who knows exactly what's different between the S9 and last year's S8... iPhone? My 60 year old mum can tell you that this year's iphone has face unlock and you can use Apple Pay with your face.

By that measure, market interest and perception, yes, Samsung is clearly the underdog, and that's what these ads serve to mitigate.

To be relatable to your analogy, Burger King has 15% of the US burger market share...that is no freaking slouch... 15% of marketshare in the burger loving USA... but compared to McDonalds, they clearly are the underdog....

The ads JUST CAME OUT and you claim they don't work?

"Apple is crushing Samsung"? Doesn't look like it to me...Samsung shipped more phones and has greater marketshare.

Ahahaha...an irrelevant market share and units comparison. Look, Samsung sold unprofitable junk!! But they have excellent market share and great unit sales!

Correct. The ads DO NOT work. We've seen this garbage from Samsung years ago, and they are getting absolutely dominated by Apple. Dominated. Not Close.

Yeah, Apple dominates Samsung. The game isn't about market share, at least for Apple.

https://www.investors.com/news/tech...tphone-profits-but-small-slice-of-unit-sales/

Do you have any concept how profitable Apple is with these phones? It's insane and is why the company is worth almost $1T and is extremely undervalued at that valuation.

We have company that’s pushing away from the default standards and for example while not having a headphone jack might be consider the end of the world for individuals that cant adapt, wireless is the future. I rather have a clean desk, hands free, wireless all (gamers you get wired, no argument there)...Samesung is just well, sad.

Can we also knock it off with the camera obsession, it doesn’t matter, 5 lenses, 32 megapixels, the new blah blah, 90% of the sheep the buy a phone because of this are the ones plaguing social media with badly taken images of a sad look into their life.

The device won’t help your non existent photographer eye.
