if Apple isn't interested, at least remotely, why are they trying out patents with it?
https://www.patentlyapple.com/patently-apple/displays-flexible/

its' amazing how virtually all your posts have such inaccuracies that are Easily refuted. its like you're not even trying.

Now, wether they ever go forward is another take entirely. but clearly there's evidence apple has at least a passing interest in folding tech

This patent was discussed as a patent in order to prepare displays that could be flexibly applied to spectacle lenses (Apple Glasses). Apple does that sometimes. One cannot infer from this that Apple is actually planning something like this. If you study the corresponding pages regularly, you know that.

and so it begins....suddenly Apple fans warm to foldable phones.....

I’m an Apple fan, but more importantly, I am a fan of _all_ tech (Lots if it). It doesn’t have to be released by Apple for something me to be interested in. I like the idea of having a foldable display that I can enlarge and truncate on demand, and good for Samsung and Huwaei that they released their versions, but we can’t dismiss Apple if they decide to release their version, because they usually release their products much later over the competition, and they tend to emphasize their products in a unique way that makes it better. [Which I know, Better is a subjective word.]

It shouldn’t be about being who is a ‘fan of which competitor’, it’s about enjoying this new technology and what a time to be alive to even see/interact with these types of devices, let alone experience them to convenience our daily lives.

Before you try to insult the guy, you should read what he actually said first. I'll highlight the most important part of what he wrote:

Engineering interests are not necessarily business interests. Apple files lots of patents with stuff that never makes it to the final products.

did you do what the other posts do, just read what you want to read and completely ignore the purposeful use of words I used and then immediately jumped on defense mode without actually understanding the words?

You didn't understand the meaning of patents.

why don't you enlighten us? since it's clear that the vast majority of us seem to be wrong...

what do YOU think the meaning of patents are?

The Apple Watch with a bent display would be great.
I just believe it's not durable and people will complain, exchange, etc.

Like all things in technology, all comes down to use case. Trend is for larger screens in mobile devices; a foldable device makes sense in this respect. Once price comes down we will see more wide spread adoption.

Foldable is interesting. I am guessing supporters of it envision it as seen in Westworld. But the materials aren’t there yet. The displays are still plastic. Imagine what it will look like after a few months traveling around in the pocket... after stray grit trapped between the folded panel have had effect.
Furthermore the folded portion will be either thicker or made of portions that are so thin as to be structurally unsound.
Samsung knows these things but needs to spread the investment risk. Thus the desire to shop parts with other vendors.

They only hate it because the displays come from Samsung. If Apple releases a foldable phone.....it will sell extremely well and be well received by most Apple fans....even if it has a Samsung display.
But that fact will be down played like it has in previous models that had Samsung displays like the iPhone X and Xs and Xs Max
Few Apple fans seem to care that iPhones have Samsung displays, from what I see. Most of the negative criticism aimed at the Samsung Fold seems to be regarding the big wrinkle down the middle of the display, the small phone display with its rather large bezels, the thickness of it when folded and complaints that it looks like a prototype that needs more development.

If/when Apple releases a foldable, it won’t have any of those problems. Who knows, it might even become their most popular device.

I don't like those drop tests in general, but for these foldable phones it would be very interesting to see.

I think outside us nutjobs who are die hard fans of tech (like me), nobody genuinely cares what acronym comes before the tech. they just care about the in hand perception.

Dear Apple

Please help us justify the existence of a foldable phone. Here is some samples that you can use to implement a version of your very own foldable phone. That way if you decide to create one, we can inevitably copy your better thought out design and purpose for said device.

Love Samsung

Sorry, this showmanship doesn't work. I'm in the business too.
Whether you are or are not has nothing to do with anything.

You called people with the opposite point of view "kids" and alleged "Most of them have no technical idea at all." In formal logic, we call that a claim without a warrant. The existence of examples that refute your point (such as myself) illustrates what a silly claim it was.

The fact that you typed a non sequitur in response to LordVic's comments about patents says a lot. I hope for your sake that if you're "in the business," you apply more care and diligence to your work than you're applying here.

It could be......we will see! It is still in the very early days of foldable phones.

Please don't be such a snide arrogance. I studied patent law for 1 year during my university years. Ask patent attorneys, they can also tell you the background, I'm not doing you this favor, you could have been more careful in school.

Thanks, I do. And I know why.

Just like you could have been more careful and actually read what he typed, rather than typing an irrelevant reply?

Pot, meet kettle.
