Apple should be worried also... the market is saturated, growth is slowing, technology is turning stagnant.

You Apple fans can celebrate today, but tomorrow it will be your turn to cut losses.

Mark my words.

That's such a general statement that'll hold true regardless of what side you're on.

This is nothing new. All technology stagnate/saturate and move on to something new. Just like the shift from the early desktop pc to laptops to mp3 players and now the smartphone. Take a wild guess, how much profit do you think Apple is making thru ipods relative to 5yrs ago?

However, if anything Apple tends to do better at adopting to new technologies if not pioneering or reinventing them.

I love my iPhone but feel bad for Samsung. Competition only helps the market and Samsung has been shooting themselves in the foot. They continue to try to dig at Apple whose taking the highend of the market but by doing so they are reinforcing to customers they don't need such a device and instead are getting low end cheap devices leaving no room for someone in the middle like Samsung. The more they attack Apple the more people become aware of Apple's newest products which. They should focus on themselves and less time throwing rocks at Apple and I think they will do a lot better. Here's for hoping the market stays competitive for everyones sake.

... They've done it with vacuum cleaners (Dyson), photography (Kodak), television (Sharp), and phones (Apple).
...
You forgot Blackberry (Samsung BlackJack) and Motorola (RAZR vs. Samsung SYNC)

And to all the people claiming this downfall is due to the IP6, this can't be true since this is the 4th quarter in a row Samsung scores a decrease in profits. The whopping 60% however may be caused by the new iPhone.

Android Fanboy –"Apple Copied Samsung, they have been making large phones for two years, welcome to 2012 iFools!"

i Feel the Samsung Galaxy Alpha that's missing all of Samsungs usual great features like removable battery, SD-Card because its made of wonderful thin gold color metal unibody is Samsung panicking...

I believe the battery on SGA is removable.

This is honestly not surprising. When you look at the timeline of the 1st iPhone to market saturation and then look at Samsung's first phone to market saturation the timelines are the same just shifted a couple years.

Everyone has been saying Apple is in decline due to Samsung/Android etc... but realistically, I've been waiting for Samsung to hit market saturation to say "look it's the same".

You can only go so far with hardware. From here on out, it's a software/services game.

Soon you will hear "Samsung can't innovate" on hardware, just like they said about Apple.

For the past 2-3 years us "Apple fans" have had to stomach a daily barrage of D&G and FUD. Most of it centered around Apple is doomed and Samsung is king. Let's not forget that at one point in 2012 Apple stock reached ~$700 and then proceeded to fall, down to the upper $300s before starting to climb back up again. And never during that time did Apple report the drop in profits that Samsung just has.

They should have just continued to be a supplier. "Don't bite the hand that feeds you" was the best piece of business/career advice I've ever been given.

soon Samsung will stop mocking Apple with its ridiculous campaigns

Samsung still makes a lot of money thanks to the Ax processors and screen panels ordered by Apple

How so? You want Apple to have its competitors die off? I don't know about you but I'd rather have Apple be challenged by competitors; it will force Apple to innovate further as opposed to resting on their laurels.

Sure, by competitors who don't rely on dirty tricks. Samsung is not one of those.

I could be wrong, but it's starting to feel like the smartphone market has grown very stale and stagnant. As if manufacturers have thrown everything they can think of into phones at this point and don't know what the next major feature is. I think everybody's profits are going to take a dip in the coming years.

The next major feature for hardware is for the phone to simple be a piece of glass.

All these Sqmsung defenders (in the name of holy competition) seem to think people are pissed off at Samsung only because of how they copied Apple.

While it's true their copyi g of Apple amplified and made more people aware of how scummy a company it is, the reality is that Samsung has been doing this for a LONG time. Their whole MO is to copy a popular technology, undercut it in price, make a lot of sales, and then settle later on the cheap, while dragging the original company (few of which are as deep pocketed as Apple) through expensive lawsuits and retrials.

EVERYONE knew this would happen INCLUDING Samsung! Many Samsung users only went over there because of the bigger screen. They'd better invent the transporter watch!

Everyone is saying aww Apple copied..Apple didn't innovate.

Well apparently Apple is doing it better.

I predict this thread to top 200 pages. The Apple faithful will love this.

Most of Apple fans I know, me included, were absolutely sure that the larger screen iPhone would have been a huge hit so no surprise that competitors are suffering.

Still I would have liked to see Apple pionieering the large screen format instead of leaving it to competitors for many years and having to react at the end: it took Samsung's undeniable success with larger screen smartphones to convince Apple it was the right format to deliver.

Samsung deserves what they get. Their business practices are unethical. They copy ideas then get sued and then keep things tied up in court's for years while they continue making the products. I personally will never buy their products again. I hope you crash and burn.

I'll continue to buy Samsung as long as they keep putting out the Note series of devices (they really are amazing). The Galaxy S series can crash & burn for all I care.

Reading the "article", it is abundantly clear Kelly Hodgkins posted a link to a Wall Street Journal article without actually reading Samsung's Pre-Earnings Guidance (2014.3Q) posted on their site. WSJ has a paywall. I somehow doubt you people are paying to bypass that.

The WSJ starts with, "Samsung Electronics has gone from smartphone model to basket case." This is an opinion piece, not fact. The fact that you people eat it up is laughable.

And having read all the responses, I think I am the smartest one here. Samsung is not losing money just because the new iPhone has been released. Read their investor relations report of what is actually happening to avoid sounding like mindless iDiots.
