I guess it's true that Karma is a bitch.

I must say that the last couple of Samsung ads I've seen were not attacks on Apple, but actually ads that highlighted the capability of their own products. Although the latest one was highlighting a feature that my iPhone has had for a couple of years (and that works better on the iPhone).

But my biggest problem with Samsung is not the fact that they attack Apple, or copy from Apple. It's their despicable business practices.

As a corporation they are very unethical. The article that I read recently that highlighted some of their shady practices was disgusting. And before the haters want to claim that Apple is "no better" and "acts like any other "corporation" in this regard, I will say you're absolutely wrong. Apple would never keep regulators at bay outside their headquarters for hours while destroying evidence inside.

Samsung can afford to engage in shady business practices, because for the most part, they have bought off the politicians of South Korea.

Apple, on the other hand, obviously has not mastered the art of "buying political favors" of US politicians, which is why US Department of Justice (hi there Eric Holder you failure ex-Attorney General) and US courts love to play target practice with Apple.

They should have just continued to be a supplier. "Don't bite the hand that feeds you" was the best piece of business/career advice I've ever been given.

Ridiculous assertion.

It should also be noted that while the iPhone's new size is having an effect on sales (now). This profit issue isn't reflective of that (yet.) The bigger issue over the past several months for Samsung has been overseas with competitors in such places as China.

It's not like the iPhone 6 came out and suddenly the entire quarter tanks.

Whew! One of the self-appointed forum police didn’t show up till a few dozen posts in ... I was getting worried their morning search for ’Samsung’ didn’t work :D Hopefully dispatch will get the others here soon!

The market is big enough for both....competition is good. I prefer iOS; some prefer Android. Who cares?

This is a very misleading headline...

First off, Samsung's profits didn't stale because of Apple making a large screened iPhone, it fell because their designs for everything they make is either gimmicky (see the Curved HDTV they just introduced) or just hitting/missing on design (see Galaxy S5 and it's many, many variants..).

Samsung profits have been hurting for sometime now, and it's not because solely on Apple. The competition in the Android space is getting A LOT better (see LG G2/G3, Moto X (2013/Not so much 2014 and HTC One M8).

Samsung is going down the same path that staled Apple for the past couple of years, little changes to things but nothing "WOW!" factored until the iPhone 6/6 Plus.

And yes, I consider the iPhone 6 the new "WOW!" Factor for Apple since it's been completely redesigned from what has been "Tried and true" for the past couple of years.

"increased marketing costs"

Samsung outspends Apple, Dell and Microsoft's marketing budgets combined. They even outspend Coca-Cola!

And Samsung has a marketing expense that Apple does not. While Apple pays no commissions to salespeople, Samsung gives salespeople (such as at carrier stores where US buyers blindly shop) huge amounts in commissions to sell a Samsung device no matter what they have to say to make it happen.

In fact, Samsung pays more in salespeople commissions alone than the entire advertising budgets of Microsoft, Apple and Dell combined (or Coca-Cola).

This has nothing to do with Apple, rather Samsung's inability to release a few great phones a year instead of the terra cotta army worth of phones they release every damn year. I mean, what would you say is the top Samsung phone right now? The Note Edge? Note 4? Galaxy Alpha? S5? Not to mention we gotta think about the A5 and A3. Samsung's biggest problem is themselves.

Sorry MacRumors but the new IP's which have been out for less than a month had nothing to do with an entire quarter of lower sales.

Anyway I'm more interested in the warpath Google is on now that they are sick of low build quality and bad UX that manufacturers are overlaying on Android. Shamu should be interesting later this month.

I couldn't see myself buying a Samsung phone just because of their ads. I now have a Moto X on order so I can have something to protect my IP6 whilst in my pocket.

Samsung: Please kindly &^%* thy self.

So this is a coincidence huh? Hmm I'd be curious to see the market share from 3rd to 4th Qtr. I can't imagine the introduction of the 6 Plus NOT having an impact on their sales.. That's crazy to me.

And having read all the responses, I think I am the smartest one here. Samsung is not losing money just because the new iPhone has been released. Read their investor relations report of what is actually happening to avoid sounding like mindless iDiots.

Everything written and reported everywhere is BS opinion based on impressions, including everything ever written and posted here on MR.

Exactly. You're the only one on here that makes sense. Samsung has released way too many products, confusing the market and the competition has gotten 10x better.

Only the info you've provided speaks to all of Samsung Electronics. Not just phones.

Wow.
Really didn't think "entering the large screen market" (I didn't even know that was a market) would have such an effect.

So bigger really is better?

Bigger sells. Apparently. That doesn't make it better, but it sells.

This threads gonna be a feeding frenzy for the apple faithful.!!!!!

Anyone trying to use logic ....

Enter at you own risk !!!!

Apple would just be the straw that broke the came's back. Samsung can't even decide what product they want you to have. Isn't it sad that the 2012 Galaxy Note 10.1 is JUST getting KitKat in other countries? Once Samsung releases a product, they don't care anymore.

you easily forget that the rumors of a larger iPhone started.....well a year ago!!

so any person looking for an upgrade would have waited till September to see what Apple was coming out with instead of getting the S5 for example....

When you read about Samsung's marketing budget, you probably think about ads. But what you should think about is money going to sales people to drag you away from the phone you want to a Samsung phone.

So the headline is misleading because your personal opinion is that something that wasn't said in the headline isn't true. Huh.:D

I don't know how it is anywhere else, but for my morning commute in NYC I see probably 80% iPhones in peoples' hands. There is now officially no one that I talk to now that makes my messages green since a couple holdouts got the bigger iPhone 6. Which is awesome because I can now talk to all of my contacts on my computer.

Put simply the iPhone is the best phone out there. The people have spoken.
