So why say it if you don't even believe it? It leads people to conclude that you're disingenuous and ultimately has the opposite effect than you intended.

I don't believe what? Of course there is the possibility that it will affect more users, simple common sense would tell us that. It's not that I'm disingenuous, it's that you keep reading stuff into what I'm saying that I'm not saying. Once again I find it refreshing that Samsung stepped up to the plate, it's my opinion and that's all. No need for a completely idiotic witch hunt to find out if I'm being disingenuous.

THIS. I respect Samsung dearly for quickly responding. My iPhone 6+, along with thousands others are out of order because of touch disease and Apple refuses to even acknowledge it. Currently back on my S3.

The amount of documented manufacturing issues with Samsung devices, that have gone unfixed, are countless. More than Apple, I'd be willing to wager. Out of warranty? Out of luck.

Exploding batteries is on a whole different level. There is an immediate need to recall. How can posters not understand this?

Now that's innovation!!

While I want to applaud Samsung for responding quickly it's pretty much their only recourse. There's no way to hide an exploding device defect and potential for harm far outweighs other considerations, not to mention the potential liability.

Then again, it would take something this serious for Apple to admit an error quickly. LOL at Zaft's comment "I can so imagine Steve Jobs saying "you're charging it wrong". (golf clap)

Not good, probably making them too thin and powerful, current battery tech isn't the best, we've seen many cases of them shorting or blowing up over the last few years.
It makes me laugh that it's meant in the UK you can't buy it, they never sold the Note 5 here officially and now you can't get the Note 7 because of this, currently anyway.

When was the last time that Apple quickly responded to a hardware issue?

Apple never had exploding phones, so they've never needed to. A phone exploding is kiiiiiinnnnnda more important to jump on and fix than say a few bent phones that don't burn your house down.

The only thing I can think of is the small wall brick you get with iPhones. Early ones had an issue of the prong breaking off and causing potential fire hazard. They fixed that asap and sent everyone a free new brick with a green dot on them (which is there that green dot came from for a few years)

Damn that sucks because they've been having such a successful run and while they may not be my favorite competitor, they certainly raise the bar for Apple.

Also hoping this isn't traced back to a supply chain issue that interweaves the iPhone component line.
Say what you want, but Apple has a history of making good on their products.

Hell, they're still accepting recalls for the 1st gen iPod nano. Told a co worker who found one in her drawer and Apple sent her a new 7G nano in 3 days.

When Apple does a recall/repair, they are second to none in terms of service. Will these Note7 users get loaner phones? I got a loaner phone for my iPhone5 sleep button problem.

How about the dGPU failures in the MBP?

Apple only offered the repair extension programs after a class action lawsuit.

Of course. People will just return it to their local Samsung store and... Oh. Many, many people are going to be left without their $850 phone (or indeed any other phone) for however long it takes Samsung to accept and turn around mail-ins.

Graphics failures in laptops ≠ phones that explode less than 2 weeks from release

How can you not see the difference? Seriously? In any event such as things catching on fire, manufacturers will jump to resolve issues. Everybody here is acting like Samsung are saints with what they're doing. This is fully, 100%, consistent with how tech companies deal with situations like these. The situation being phones which explode.

Why do people fanboy? Is it just self reassurance for the product that we spent several hundred dollars on? Can't we just have a product that we like and have high expectations of any company that we give $600+ to? Why do we have to bash other consumers?
Because **** Android. Also it's fun. I'm brainwashed and I'm okay with that.

Good on' em? Seriously?

Yeah good on 'em. They recalled devices before someone got seriously injured. They had no other option. Nothing admirable here. No choice in the matter.
Yes, good on 'em. They could have tried to brush it under the rug or whatever other method to hush it up. It's only happened on 2 devices in South Korea but they are looking at a possible worldwide recall. So yes, good on 'em

I give props to Samsung for not hiding it and getting the problem solved.

Yes! Let's give them a medal for pulling exploding phones off the shelves! And by the way this has absolutely nothing to do with the potential legal/criminal liabilities they'd face if someone got hurt, or the fact that this issue is now in the open for all to see ;)

People are giving away props like water these days.

Props to Samsung for admitting the problem right away and getting going on a solution. Companies get in trouble by trying to hide stuff, not for the original problem. Note: Apple

Nope, you're right about that one. I never said Apple was perfect, but to equate Apple's support record against Samsung's is laughable.

Samsung has been known for not providing necessary firmware updates to blu-ray players that aren't that old. Apple provided updates for the iPad Air 2 for almost a millennia ... j/k.

Apple gets things wrong from time to time, but service and support is not at the top of that short short list.

There was also the frayed MagSafe connectors that were a fire hazard, and before that, failing power iBook/ Powerbook adapters that sometimes caught fire and could burn a house down.

Both, I think, required class action lawsuits before Apple came clean.

As well they should, considering the unusually high percentage of profit they make off their products.

A better question is, will they get just new batteries, or all new phones, or will they get refurbs which is what Apple would do.
