I thought Samsung batteries were generally of high quality. I have a rechargeable battery pack for camping with Samsung batteries in it.... :(

They are if made by Samsung SDI. I've got a Samsung SDI battery that lasted four years without degradation. Apparently, the affected batteries are outsourced from another company called ITM. When I buy Samsung I always try to select Made in South Korea with Samsung SDI battery.

Why do people fanboy? Is it just self reassurance for the product that we spent several hundred dollars on? Can't we just have a product that we like and have high expectations of any company that we give $600+ to? Why do we have to bash other consumers?

You must not have run into the Apple haters here yet...

Anyone would think they were being paid for constantly and relentlessly posting negative comments about anything that is remotely related to Apple.

The Note 7 I have shows it was made in Korea.
My Note 4 was made in Vietnam.
I wonder if Samsung split manufacturing for the Note 7 between two factories or this is a matter of supplementing their in-house battery production with batteries from outsourced vendors?

My Note 7 was manufactured in China, although I don't think that has any bearing on where the actual battery came from. So far I've seen China, Korea and Vietnam labels.

Samsung exploding batteries - recalls phones

iPhone touch disease - does nothing...

Do the right thing Apple...
Samsung exploding batteries - ship a phone that can burn your house ?

iPhone touch disease - ship a phone that can stop working

So you think Samsung has done the right thing ?
I charge my phone at night and I will completely loose confidence on my device and its manufacturer if this thing happened to me.

Welcome to MacRumors, where people who are looking to switch away from or hate Apple come to bash people that use Apple products.

This is what happens when you skip out on quality control trying so hard to beat Apple to market. Imagine how huge the backlash if Apple had to recall an iPhone right after launch.
If Apple did, all we would see here is the "Apple is doomed!" posts. But, because it's Samsung, which is now gaining the "this brand can do no wrong" halo in some people in the tech industry's eyes, it's easily glossed over. I'm sure there won't be any major hate like there would be if Apple did this.

does anyone realize that the Note 7's battery is not replaceable? As in non-replaceable battery?

This will not be just a simple battery swap.

Haha, I agree. Had this story been about the new iPhone, the reaction around here (ironically enough) would've been totally different..another Apple bashfest for sure..certainly not multiple posts on the first few pages commending Sansung for potentially recalling their exploding phones. This place feels more like an android forum these days.
Exactly! I thought I was one of the only ones who though this! Let me sample how it would be if Apple had this happen:

-Apple is DOOMED!
-Apple's quality has really slipped!
-This wouldn't have happened if Steve was still alive.
-I'm switching to Android, what a mess Apple has become.
-Apple sucks.
-Better sell your Apple shares now, before the stock tanks.
-Etc.

As we can see here though, with the Note 7, and it's easily being glazed over. Samsung now has some sort of "reality distortion field" just like Apple, where in some people's eyes, they can never do anything wrong.

400+ posts on a forum whose subject matter is a company you hate. I'm the deluded one. Bizarre. Absolutely bizarre.

Yep, I'm just more familiar with the MO of the company as of late than you are. Loved Apple, till they started giving up on the future and just made crap. Now they are on par, at best, with the rest of the industry. Soon will be behind.

do you think samsung would recall s5 if they had a problem? no! the iPhone 6 is a two year old device as well. Obviously samsung has to recall the note 7 because its a brand new device that is putting people's lives at risk...
