Apple sell four different phones. Samsung probably sell 40 different phones. Of cours they're going to take up most of the market share

Apple is still too small of a company to handle more than one phone in different sizes and colors.

Market share is the means, profit is the end.

Largest smartphone vendor in itself is a meaningless title which Samsung is more than welcome to keep for themselves.
The company that sells less and takes 90% of the profit is taking too much of your money. Of course you need to make profit for future investments. But overprice it for too long and your customers shop elsewhere. I don't like the samsung company culture, it's too aggressive and isn't ashamed in stealing other good ideas. But on the other hand, there products are competitive priced and they offer value for money. That's a thing Apple forgot by milking their customers for way too long.

Not surprised. The S8 is a masterpiece
I totally agree on you with that. If it had an Apple badge on the back everyone would praise it to heaven

Yup... One of Samsung's biggest sellers is the Galaxy S3 introduced five years ago.

My wife bought one for $80 recently at the AT&T store for a prepaid GoPhone account. The AT&T rep said they sold loads of them.

Interestingly, it's also the phone trump uses.

And this is before the release of the S8 which, apart from the ugly back and Samsung software, looks like an incredible phone.

“Samsung is traditionally the world’s largest smartphone maker, as it sells millions of inexpensive smartphones alongside its flagship devices, so this would normally be no surprise."

So the headline is actually clickbait? To what end clickbait?

The headline is referring to quarterly sales... where Apple outsold Samsung last quarter.

But in yearly smartphone sales... Samsung sold 300 million in 2016 while Apple only sold 200 million.

Wait, what? HOW? How could they recover so fast when new products as JUST been launched. S8 and S8+ are not even available for sale. Don't tell me Galaxy A line did so well that made Samsung gain THAT much market share. I don't think TrendForce's analysis is correct here.
I am just thinking logically. What did really caused such a huge comeback?

most people who went Note 7, ended up switching to the S7(e). So Samsung's numbers mostly shifted around. The expectation that users would bail on Samsung and go to other manufacturer's or Apple proved to be unfounded.

Samsung topped Apple as the world's largest smartphone maker in the first quarter.

Don't think that was ever in doubt. And the S8 isn't even shipping yet.

If Samsung and the rest of the industry make so little profit compared to Apple, does it mean they are selling a better phone?

thank you and also NONE except Apple reports ANY unit numbers - all of these numbers are coming up their a**s

Huawei and LG report smartphone unit numbers.

But none of them, including Apple, has reported unit numbers for the first quarter yet as far as I'm aware.

The numbers are, of course, estimates.

I will stick with Apple nothing of theirs I have ever owned has spontaneously combusted.
Except you {spontaneously combusting} when you see the price of the iPhone 8....
Apple have to be careful with their pricing. Killing the goose that laid the golden egg and all that.
There is no way that I'm going to pay £1200-£1300 (inc Tax) for a phone. I can buy a really nice lens for my camera for that amount of money and it will last a lot longer than a phone.

I really like how when you purchase a Samsung Gold or Silver phone, the front is not the same generic white phone. It always matches the back of the phone. I don't understand why Apple doesn't understand this concept.

Edit: Notice how the prior article shows the Apple iPhones from the back. Samsung will show the front of the phone and you can clearly see what color the phone is just from the front.

If a product spontaneously combusting can't kill brand loyalty, what can?

Not updating it since 2013...... and some crap about amazing product pipeline....aka BS does more damage to brand loyalty than an actual manafacturering error.

Taking action to remedy something is much more favourable to your loyal fans than ignoring them .....I'll take the note 4 scenario all day long over the mac situation..... my 2013 Mac Pro is apple's top computer....pathetic...and maybe in 2 years , being 5 years old....be updated. Brand loyalty kick to the balls!! :)

You realise , the less people that buy iPhones, the higher the resulting price.....and apple is about profits, and that means raising the prices when unit sales fall, how are you a winner ?

It has for others. I remember seeing a video recently of a Macbook Pro bursting into flames and there were reports of iPhones catching on fire. Apple hasn't been innocent.

Now, if they could just get that pesky "percentage of profits from mobile hardware sold" metric above single digits.... they'd REALLY have cause to celebrate!

I hope the trend continues until Apple gets its head out and addresses the comparable (and for many, significant) self-imposed limitations in their hardware AND software design.

At this point, and from my perspective, Apple devices are defined by what you CAN'T do on it when compared with equivalent devices on the market.
