The 'problem' is that specs mean nothing to the average consumer. User experience is everything. If the iPad 2 had only 128MB of RAM it wouldn't sell one less unit. The Xoom and Galaxy Tab are dead in the water.

User experience depends on specs and specs only. Every single aspect of "user experience" is defined by specs. Every design starts with "specs". OS features, GUI features - it's all specs.

They are just being honest. That's a stark contrast to Steve Jobs' BS that we just heard at iPad 2 event (first tablet with dual core CPU, rrrright). Also the original article spreads usual pro-Apple propaganda. Galaxy Tab for US$900? Is this a reference to some European pre-release prices? Just a BS.

If only Steve Jobs was that honest and said - yeah, we screwed up with RAM, and cameras and no-SD card and no 4G.

Go and watch the keynote again and then come back to apologise.

Steve said that he believes it will be the first dual core table to SHIP IN VOLUME!!! You appear to have missed the critical part of the statement.

If you are not interested in Apple products why do you come here?
I never understand the need for people who hate Apple wasting their time in Apple forums, what is the point? Is it jealousy? I don't waste my time going into forums for things that I have no interest in, simply to put things down, that would be a very sad, sad life.

Perhaps you need to just let Apple get on with what they do, and you just move on and ignore it.

Not the first to ship a dual core, but will be the first to ship in "high volume".

Yeah, they "screwed up" so much that other companies are canceling products before they even come out.

How often does that happen?

No, like, seriously...this is pretty rare and yet you're acting like it means nothing.

Amazing

We will see more companies going back to the drawing board to revise their offerings.

While some complainers say that iPad 2 wasn't a quantum leap forward, clearly some of Apple's competitors think the incremental improvement is enough to make them doubt their own offerings.

Also, we are now seeing clear effects of Apple's supply chain advantage. They are buying up all the key components at discounted volume pricing and soaking up availability. Everyone else is going to feel the pressure to reduce margins as Apple squeezes them out of the component market.

Competition is good, however it looks like some of Apple's competitors are frowning at the cards they are holding.

If they were, it would be called innovating, not copying.
I'm so tired of the meme that Apple needs competition from other companies in order to keep on their game. Its the opposite that seems to be the case.

I don't know. If there were better iPad competitors the iPad 2 would probably be $100 cheaper. A case redesign, slightly faster processor, and no increase in storage is not much of a jump. But Apple doesn't need to drop the price because the competition is a shambles.

Yes, and this is the photo of XOOM not being shipped in volume:

can anyone explain to me how samsung makes chips for apple, yet both their product lines are in direct competition? ive always wondered about that.

im sure theres alot of corporate mumbo jumbo involved, but any ideas anyone?

Not sure what you're confused about. What do you think should change? Should Apple stop buying Samsung chips? What good does that do Apple? Should Samsung stop selling chips to Apple? How does that help Samsung?

Basically, I'm not really sure what you're proposing.

Dude, you got to listen better.

" First Dual Core tabled that ships in mass quantities"
And thats just plain true!

The ipad 1 sold big time... so whatever they left out, doesn't matter... probably only you and 3 other whiners needed it as a must have... the other 10 million people didn't.

Or you are to cheap to but the Memorycard reader supplied by Apple to minimize the ipad.

Apple doesn't really care about specs... they publish them to get rid of your kind of lame posts...

Apples idea is.. " if it works.. it works. We don't care about specs" We care about battery, simplicity, usefulness.

Camera is the only point that could be chosen market wise. But I don't mis it.. Tho "I" am 1 person... that says nothing. Just like your BS reply.

It's partly specs. iOS is efficient enough that it works on low spec'd hardware. My point is that the target market has no idea about specs and doesn't care when making a purchasing decision.

This is great. Hopefully they can make a better product now that they know what the competition is offering. If they are planning a redesign they should try to make it as thin as possible. Samsung as a company has amazing technology like the amoled flex screens similar to sonys version. Hopefully they can implement the best of their best into the galaxy tab. They've got the goods, but will they use it? They will also undoubtedly look into their pricing and see how cheap they can make it, I wonder how low they can go. If the xoom can go down to $530 for their wiring version I don't see why they can't cut their costs more.

I love how apple is forcing everyone else to step up their game. Recently Rahul Sood who started voodoo pc and behind the hp envy lines, currently a manager of some sort in Microsoft said "every pc executive should own a macbook". Which is true, so many of these idiots forget that sex sells.

I'm actually not too happy about this. The iPad is great but too limited in some aspects for many users.

If the competition pulls back their tablets then there is less choice and less chance that the iPad down the road gets the features some people want or need.

I would prefer a situation where there are alternative tablets to the iPad.

It's beyond me how companies and their high paid execs can plan a device above Apple price.

The iPad is not designed for every user, if it tried to be then it would most likely not be any good for any of them.

Apple have designed a product for the masses and the masses are buying it.

It is clearly not for you, which is fine, you are probably not the target market and that is how reality works.

Cars are just the same, a BMW 2 seater is not for everyone, but they still make them.

Wow, Steve must feel very good about the iPad. Do you remember those post from last year about people complaining how bad the iPad is? It's so funny to read these comments again. :p

Best post I've seen in ages.

My favorite:

And who exactly cancelled their product? Seriously?

Honestly I would not call the Xoom dead in the water.
I do not think Motorola expect to sell large numbers of Xooms and it is going to be treated more as a developer devices that is sold to consumers. Hell I would not be surpised in the least if Google had a pretty heavy hand in some of the things on it as it most important thing is getting the tablet into the hands of devs.

Also I would say the roomer is at best questionable to begin with as it seems to be more just bashing than much truth behind it.

This comment is so lol, I dont even know where to start. I bet you have a Vizio tv too...

Incorrect.

User experience is not based on 'Specs'.

Did you even read the article?

It's all about Samsung going back to the drawing board. You do know that they mean "we're not going to sell the version we have right now" don't you?

How can you comment on a story without even reading it?
