lol wow… sounds like Samsung was really caught off guard by Apple - but did they really think Apple was going to up the price by 50%?

Really.... it amazes me that any of this seemed like a surprise. Samsung seems like they have their head in the sand.

Wow, Steve must feel very good about the iPad. Do you remember those post from last year about people complaining how bad the iPad is? It's so funny to read these comments again. :p

It's because the majority of sel-proclaimed apple fans, and especially the ones that post on messageboards are narrow-minded morons, that think they have everything figured out, when in fact they don't have a clue. Reading these quotes full of confidence and hubris just solidifies that. Imagine if these kinds of people had any say at all in how Apple operates- the company would be beyond backrupt. Next time you want to proclaim your outrage for a new Apple product, look back at these quotes so you don't make a complete epic fool of yourself.Apple has more imagination and foresight than you ever hope to have.

(not talking to you :)

They are just being honest. That's a stark contrast to Steve Jobs' BS that we just heard at iPad 2 event (first tablet with dual core CPU, rrrright). Also the original article spreads usual pro-Apple propaganda. Galaxy Tab for US$900? Is this a reference to some European pre-release prices? Just a BS.

If only Steve Jobs was that honest and said - yeah, we screwed up with RAM, and cameras and no-SD card and no 4G.

Show me 4G on any other tablet device?
Show me a tablet device as thin as the Ipad 2?
How do you really know that they screwed up on the RAM? Waiting until the iFixit teardown..

The cameras might have better quality than the ones in the Xoom...higher MPs don't make a good camera all the time.

The Ipad 2 will sell 40 million units this year..motorolla and samsung wish they could sell half that combined...

Dude, you got to listen better.

" First Dual Core tabled that ships in mass quantities"
And thats just plain true!

The ipad 1 sold big time... so whatever they left out, doesn't matter... probably only you and 3 other whiners needed it as a must have... the other 10 million people didn't.

Or you are to cheap to but the Memorycard reader supplied by Apple to minimize the ipad.

Apple doesn't really care about specs... they publish them to get rid of your kind of lame posts...

Apples idea is.. " if it works.. it works. We don't care about specs" We care about battery, simplicity, usefulness.

Camera is the only point that could be chosen market wise. But I don't mis it.. Tho "I" am 1 person... that says nothing. Just like your BS reply.

Yean, Apple never talks about specs :D

I didn't think it would sell either but the iPad surprised me!

Yes, and this is the photo of XOOM not being shipped in volume:

3-3-11-xoom-wifi.jpg

How many have they shipped?
Have they built as many as Apple have built and will be shipping in March, my guess is that they are nowhere near the same numbers.

Apple will be building and shipping 3 million iPad 2 models in March alone.
How many Xooms have been built?
Just because they are on the shelf, does not mean they are built / shipped in high numbers.

User experience depends on specs and specs only. Every single aspect of "user experience" is defined by specs. Every design starts with "specs". OS features, GUI features - it's all specs.

LOL I've never seen anything so blind-sightedly wrong. User experience is what sells the device. No amount of technology will overcome a bad user experience. Yes I'm sure Apple will put enough RAM, CPU, etc. into the system to make things adequately responsive and "just work." It doesn't matter that product X has a faster CPU or more ports. User experience is what really matters. This doesn't involve just the iPad and its specs, it also involves the entire ecosystem: iOS, iTunes, App Store, Customer Support, Apple stores, etc. And colors. Yes colors! They know how to market to the kids too. These things are fashion accessories ya know ;)

AHAHAHA Going back to the drawing board! AHAHAHAHAH

I bet they look at there pencil and ask themselves

" Can we even design a good tabled with a pen and paper?"
" Dow we need steves blood.. to voodoo some new parts and ideas?"
" Please help us , whomever is up there that steve is believing in"

As I recall, Steve said that it was the first Dual-Core tablet to "Ship in volume". He would be correct as I'm not sure that you can consider any competing tablet to be shipping in volume.

Ironically, while the executive of the mobile division is pulling their hair out and going back to the drawing board... The executives of the manufacturing division of Samsung are rubbing their hands with glee of all the Samsung screens and chips that are being supplied in the iPads and selling in volume ha.

I baffling why people here WANT the competition to fail. Are you an Apple stockholder or something? Do you want to feel superior when you hold up your iPad 2 to the world? Why is the failure of Xoom and Galaxy Tab important to you?

As for myself, I would want EVERYONE to make a great product and continue to do so. I WANT my choice to be a tough one.

Successful competion is a GOOD thing for consumers. Not only does it give us CHOICES, but it keeps everyone on their toes to make better and better products.

Tony

You make a great point...... but unfortunately their are no companies that can make good usable products and have eco systems with them..... besides Apple all these other tech companies operate on an island and greed..... at least when apple gets greedy it's done in their own eco system... and they don't need to rely on a software or hardware company for their products...

I would love competition, but non of the competition can really compete. Its that simple.

Do you even know that Dell Streak 7 (with a dual core Nvidia Tegra 2 chip) started shipping in January. Available since then on T-Mobile (in volume).

To be correct, Steve Jobs should have said: "First dual core tablet to ship in volume higher than iPad 1."

"User experience is everything" is just a fanboy brainwashed phrase that you are taking right out of SJ's mouth. User exprience is DEPENDENT upon specs. And it's also a personal PREFERENCE. Many people LIKE the Honeycomb user experience.

I have a good book for you to read: Paradox of Choice, why More is Less. Pretty enlightening, especially for those involved with marketing. http://www.amazon.com/Paradox-Choice-Why-More-Less/dp/0060005688

The simple idea is, sometimes too many options causes people to just delay their choice or not make one at all.

Yeah, they "screwed up" so much that other companies are canceling products before they even come out.

How often does that happen?

No, like, seriously...this is pretty rare and yet you're acting like it means nothing.

Amazing

All the time since the HP Slate has been announced.

Android is a manufacturer? Motorola, HP, and Blackberry are Asian companies?

No way Samsung would SAY this. This is an unsubstantiated rumor. The Galaxy Tab 10.1 looks like an excellent device that specs out better than the iPad 2. Yes, though, it's overpriced, not only relative to the iPad 2 but also the Xoom. That probably the main dilemma.

Tony

Don't forget the iPad gen1. There are still lots of people who may walk away from the Gen 2 on price, look at competitors, who are more expensive, and fall into a the iPad gen1. Apple knocekd $100 USD of the price. Those people looking for a glorified ereader/surf/giant mp3 player will still be happy with the gen1. Spec-hounds will be a little more discriminating. And if gen3 is coming later on this year, Apple has put a lot of companies on notice. Apple has come to play.

As I recall, Steve said that it was the first Dual-Core tablet to "Ship in volume". He would be correct as I'm not sure that you can consider any competing tablet to be shipping in volume.

Steve Jobs does not get to invent his own terminology. There are "engineering samples" and there is "shipping in volume". Here is one example from Engadget: Classmate PC now shipping "in volume". Do you really think they were talking about iPad-type volumes?

The 'problem' is that specs mean nothing to the average consumer. User experience is everything. If the iPad 2 had only 128MB of RAM it wouldn't sell one less unit. The Xoom and Galaxy Tab are dead in the water.

User experience goes hand in hand with specs, you can't just ignore one and skimp out on the other.

Faster hardware = no lag, smoother experience
More RAM = better multi-tasking, better browser experience
Better Display = more visually pleasing screen. Retina display anyone?

The only reason Apple brought up "specs don't matter" is for future damage control. The competition comes out with new devices pretty much as soon as new technology is released (and uses the higher spec number as an advantage vs Apple). Apple knows they can't keep up with the latest tech due to one year release cycles so what's their way of combatting that? Downplay the importance of specs when it's not in their favor.

I don't even own an iPad :p And I'm not a shareholder. I'm just going by the sales numbers and user testimonials. Apple is doing something very right here.

Listen to the iPad event video. Steve first acknowledges other dual core devices are shipping and then makes his comment about being the first to ship in volume. There is no misstatement.

Yes, every other phone, tablet and computer company will be bankrupt in a year and Apple will take over the world. And they won't care at all about making their executives rich, just making consumers happy. They never overglorify products, bend the truth until it's a borderline lie, deny obvious issue with their hardware / software, diss developers, or hold any information from their loyal fanbase. And the 10,000 commercial I see a year is just to educate the consumer.

Boy, you live in fantasy land don't you.

Tony

All that I see is 5-10 tablets. So what is it that you are saying?

'Ship in volume' is quite debatable; but he clearly meant that iPad will ship more than XOOM. More as in millions more; If there was something that could dwarf the iPad, then that XYZ tab would be meant to ship in volume.

Get it?
