Still still has bezels. FAIL.

The new iPhone has bezels all around and you complain over thin top and bottom bezels on the Note 8 which has no bezel (truly edgeless) on the left and right unlike your new design. Lol, that notch and ugly camera hump will have you obsessed I bet. You cannot really criticize the design of the note 8, it's just beautiful.

It may not be more powerful but in practice its the better chip. Better battery life too.

The 835 in practice is the better chip. Go do your research.

From readings on the Internet and speaking with those who have the Galaxy S8, it doesn't seem like the fingerprint reader on the back is that much of an adjustment for those who actually have experience with it. For those who comment without having experience with the fingerprint reader on the back, are usually the ones to say something negative about it, because they have never even tried it before based off what they "Heard".

Lol true and at least we have a fingerprint reader as one of several options. They will miss touch ID surely just like their headphone jack.

I have done my research. The SOT on my Exynos model is better then anything being reported on the Snapdragon models. Im averaging over 8 Hours SOT, usually getting closer to 9-10 hours. I know a few people with the 835 models and they don't get close to that. My device also runs butter smooth with Zero micro stutters, again i don't know anyone with an 835 model that is getting that kind of performance. Im very happy with the Exynos model and if i had the choice i would go for the Exynos model again, no doubt about it.

Honestly i could care less what you think. ;) Im getting battery life and performance that is better then anything reported, im very happy. I read the anandtech article a while back, it basically states the 2 are very close in terms of performance however they need to test more then one device of each chip to get a result that means anything to me as benchmarks can differ from chip to chip. In my actual experience the Exynos chip is just better.

I have to laugh at all the vitriol in these posts. There are a few that smack of open mindedness which are refreshing but the majority read like Trump supporters. Blindly cheering or jeering for what they have done no research on, nor tried for themselves. I think the new Note looks beautiful, (have used and loved both iPhone and Android (galaxy)phones in the past) but this year it will be VERY interesting to see what Apple has to offer and Pixel 2 as well before I make my decision. It would surprise the hell out of me to return to Apple but you never know!

I guess the trolls need feeding ergo these forums but I for one would love to see more open mindedness and less pettiness.

Looks like an epic fail to me. The lack of hard buttons, the curved edges, the non-replaceable battery, the remote control -like aspect ratio. At least they retained the headphone jack. It seems I am going to stay with Samsung Galaxy Note 3 for ever.

Yeah no thanks. The iPhone 6 has literally better RAM management with 1GB of RAM than Sammy has with 6GB of RAM. It's embarrassing at this point. Looks good though.

Sounds like you're trying to justify overpaying for bad specs. "ram managment" isn't even a real technical term.
[doublepost=1503549662][/doublepost]
Yup, 4 times the spec to run 1/4 as efficient as iOS

There are two types of people in this world, one that would choose to enjoy quiet fancy dinner that might not fill you up and those who choose the noisy all you can buffet where you can scope anything you like and as much as you like onto your plate. There isn't wrong choice, but that's how I view iPhone vs Android.

Hardware - yes. Low level camera software - no. On paper, they can have a better camera, but they will always be at a disadvantage in real life. If you want the best camera experience on a phone, always get the current iPhone. Simple.

All very subjective....but I don't agree. Sony themselves have better phone cameras than either Apple or Samsung (possibly N8 aside tbd) , hardware and software...imo.

You haven't.
Research is not reading stuff on the internet!

I said what the hell and pre-ordered one.
I'll kick the tires and take it for a spin around the block and see if it's as good as they say.
I'm not tied to any ecosystem, so it should be fun.
If I like it, I'll keep it. If not, back it goes.

Not interested in a first gen OLED iPhone (always prefer to wait for the "S" models to shake the bugs out), which is why I have the 6S+ instead of a 7.

Although most think so.
Because the note 8 hasn' t been released yet and is not reviewed or has been on sale, etc.

There are several problems with the device.

Hardware:
1) Fingerprint reader at the back. Hardly reachable at that.
2) Curved edges of the screen. Those extra reflections on the sides are just bad. Can't see how almost no reviewers mention this fundamental design flaw which plagues Samsung flagship phones for a while now.

Software:
3) Android with stuff on top, slow updates. Once you've been using macOS and iOS together for a while - going for a much less integrated combo is hardly appealing. I'd add that I trust Apple with privacy and security much more than I trust Google.

As for a design - it is good to see Samsung finally stops adding logos to the front of their devices. Not a fan of the glass back due to extra smudges that are instantly visible though. Curious to see how iPhone 7s and 8 will be like in that department.

Edit:
Almost forgot. Props to Samsung for keeping 3,5mm jack and including 32-bit/384kHz audio support. That just makes it a good audio/video player right there. Must sound better than the crappy DAC in the Lightning to 3,5mm Jack Adapter. Too bad Apple went pretty much all wireless in the sound department. Would really don't mind to have a great DAC/amp inside the phone and rip the benefits of Tidal offline playback.

You guys really sound like brainwashed zombies. Hilarious. The press says it's good enough to make people switch from Apple but you have nonsensical explanations of why it's not good enough.

I switched from the iPhone to an S5 2 years ago and am haven't regretted it a moment.

This site supports alternative device users plus I was a past ipad user until the ipad pro became severely underwhelming and still doesnt have mouse/trackpad support or a real file manager (the new files app doesnt count as a real file manager...just icloud 2.0)

Hmm... its seems that you are interested in technology but approach it from the wrong side. The idea behind "file managers" is from a past century. Nowadays people have so much data to work with that you should see that collection of data as a blob: unstructured data. What you need is integration and a high-tech search facility (based on machine learning and artificial intelligence) to retrieve the information you need. You see where this is going at, it is because of this we see companies like Apple and Samsung invest in these areas so much (including their personal assistants, why would you want to create all kind of structures if you can just ask for a file? Not my cup of tea either, but resistance is futile ;)).

If you try to adapt to that you will experience that a "file manager" is a lame effort trying to structure something that is not suited for that. I think the integration app (as it is able to show you all your data you stored locally and in different clouds in a single solution) its a neat first step to go. Your remark about a trackpad/mouse is something I don't understand, the iPad IS the trackpad/mouse. Sounds you are a laptop-guy, an iPad is no laptop and a laptop is no iPad. If you can't keep these separated in your mind, buy a Microsoft Surface as it is built for this duo-type behaviour.

And, for last, you are entitles to have your own opinion and there is nothing wrong about that! But be aware that most people don't share that one and have moved forward.

I’m curious about your decision logic. After 8 years as an iPhone owner, have you embraced the Apple ecosystem?

If so, will you not miss iCloud, cross-device app and data integration, continuity and handoff, global clipboard, iCloud Keychain, wallet, and all of the little conveniences that accrue by virtue of being in the ecosystem, not to mention the peace of mind that comes with a platform that respects your privacy and is not built to exploit your personal information and undermine your digital sovereignty?

Just curious because android or any platform or phone can never be good enough to convince me trust the google ecosystem and trade my digital personhood for free services or conveniences.
I don't know about him. But I can tell you my experience. I have owned iPhones from 3g onwards. I just switched to s8 couple of months back from iPhone 6 because I don't want to pay 800$ for new iPhone and I got the Samsung rebate deal. I also picked up the unlocked version so that I don't have to go through the pain of career unlocking.

From the day I had my phone, I never felt that I was restricted by apple ecosystem. I don't buy any apps. I use only free ones. I don't use iCloud. Because its utter stupid to get 5gb iCloud free for a 16gb iPhone and then the constant warning about no storage space in iCloud. I always turn iCloud sync off. I always wanted the headphone jack. One more reason to switch for me.

When I got the phone, I was worried how would I sync my apps and my contacts because everything is in iPhone. Guess what? All I had to do is connect the iPhone cable to s8 and open the Samsung sync app and left it overnight. When I woke app in the morning, all contacts were copied, all aorrepsonsing apps were download from Google store and installed into my a8. I was up and ready to go without a hitch.

On another note, I don't see any hitch or slowness everybody is taking about. Everything is buttery smooth. I have latest security update on my phone.
I don't miss my iPhone yet.

I think I would rather jam a spoon behind my own eye-balls, pop them out, and swallow them whole than use a Samsung phone. I despise that corrupt company, and their phones may seem impressive at first glance, are no more than lipstick on a pig.

Good luck in a year when you shiny new phone is slow as molasses, and is behind with crucial security updates.

Way too much hatred! It's just a phone for God's sake.

Another one to call us a sheep or a zombie.
What do you all hope to achieve with this generalisation and offending people.

Great you have a S5, have fun with it, it is a good phone, just not for me. I wish you the best. I am not being sarcistic. I really mean that.

Really beautiful looking device, Gorgeous display. it's really a surprise that Samsung is still retaining the headphone jack on their latest device, the Note 8 is the Latest Phone that still retains the 3.5mm jack, now that other competitors are stepping in to get rid of headphone jack.
The more competitors are backing off the headphone jack, the stronger the sellpoint for Samsung.
