Totally agree here. Eventually, we'll just have slabs of all screen. All comes down to software, core technologies, ecosystem, support, and privacy. All of these things I think Apple has the leg up on.
Yes I agree but only for iPad's as far as IOS software goes.. and that's only on IOS11, past I would have said they are being beaten.. Apple's IOS hasn't matured at all and they have massive restrictions on what developers can and cannot do. Even though the tools they provide allow developers to make some amazing enhancements, end of the day Apple controls most of your device. Android allows freedom to program your own stuff and use whatever you want.. even sharing it with others. Now that's good and bad because of today's privacy issues.. but if you have a good programmer, there are kind of endless on possibilities on Android in a way... IOS.. not so much. And I program everything on IOS first, but restrictions and hand holding is tiresome after all these years. Apple's user base has grown up.. they need to have IOS grow up too! Not asking for the world... a small slice of freedom would be nice.. and side loading apps isn't what it's cracked up to be. Obviously this is just my take on it.

Almost switched fully to android last year but the whole battery thing took me out of the game. Maybe this is the year I make the leap...

Yeah no thanks. The iPhone 6 has literally better RAM management with 1GB of RAM than Sammy has with 6GB of RAM. It's embarrassing at this point. Looks good though.

Indeed. The most commonly neglected advantage of iOS over Android Opioid Flower 7.1 is it's vastly superior Memory Management. Android just can't get there. :apple:

And when you do use it, like my friends do in their cars, you get noise because the adapter is made poorly.

I find this hard to believe. I mean it's got a rubbish DAC in it, but everything else in your friends cards who have a aux input will also be rubbish in terms of audio quality. I've plugged £250 IEM's into the Apple adapter and there is no "noise", in fact it has a lower noisefloor than the audio jack had on all the iPhones previous.

Seems like a nice phone.

Still don't like curved edges, just not my thing. Also, 6GB? That's approaching PC/laptop territory. Is Android really that bad with memory resource management?

The DeX feature is very nice, now that they've made it more responsive. Would love an iPhone that could perform as a simple Mac when plugged into a docking station type device. It would be super huge for enterprise, I imagine, too.

Your signature seems to suggest you're on the wrong forum bud...Or is this your hobby?

This site supports alternative device users plus I was a past ipad user until the ipad pro became severely underwhelming and still doesnt have mouse/trackpad support or a real file manager (the new files app doesnt count as a real file manager...just icloud 2.0)

Issue there is that developers aren't making much money on Android. I think iOS on the iPhone will take a front seat on iOS 12. Then they will continue to go back and forth between iPhone and iPad.

Samsung has Bluetooth 5.0 on board.
They give you options, because they seem to care about the customer.

The Apple way is:
Put Earpods with Lightning connector to the box, which nobody uses (it's not even an "Apple audio jack", since you cant plug it into a Macbook)
Then they also throw in an adapter which you have to carry around.
And when you do use it, like my friends do in their cars, you get noise because the adapter is made poorly.

Apple's current strategy is called "hodgepodge". Get used to it, the days of one person setting a tone that like it or not was pretty damn good are gone.

Apple does make some good products, but they are not insanely great anymore.

Another repeat Android phone that will be forgot about in a couple days. A year old iPhone will still sell better.

I think you're being slightly dismissive. I think the Note 8 will appeal to a certain demographic that will appreciate it's different capabilities and functions, and of course the S Pen. It will be successful in its own right, just as the iPhone has its core group of users as well. A year-old iPhone may sell better, but it doesn't mean the Note 8 will have any less of a following because of a year old iPhone.

Absolutely the best phone of the year. Every feature and more is here and we still have a headphone jack lol. You just cant get any better. The ultimate phone...once again iphone fanboys will be envious.

iPhone fan boys aren't envious because the #1 selling point of iPhones - runs iOS - is not on the Samsung phone.

Specs don't excite iPhone fan boys - features that work do. I see this missing a lot of features current and the next generation iPhone have.

This looks so much better than the iPhone 8 devices we've seen leaked. The screen, which is stunning, takes centre stage whereas the iPhone 8 has that horrendous sensor notch cutting in. The iPhone 8 is up there with the smart battery case in terms of poor design. They could have developed a solution that looks more visually pleasing but instead they just rushed it. If Samsung had iOS I'd be all over this phone.

Samsung has the Bluetooth 5.0 that Apple has invented. Do you want to bet that new iPhones will also have Bluetooth 5.0?

“Apple’s audio jack” is Bluetooth with AAC codec, meanwhile, if you buy a Samsung phone with a Qualcomm processor, you’ll want an aptX pair of headphones, if you buy a Samsung Windows laptop, your expensive aptX headphones won’t use aptX because Windows is running on Intel, and aptX is a Qualcomm property.

But the good thing AAC is non-proprietary and all Windows, Android and Apple hardware come with hardware decoders for them, are part of MPEG 4, and it just works! you have AAC on your iTunes music, but also on your digital terrestrial/sat/cable TV, BluRay player, Youtube, Netflix, and literal billions of devices that can record and reproduce it, it’s the English of audio codecs right now, that also means the original stream can go into your headphones without another lossy conversion like aptX.

For your “complaint” against apple’s adapter, sure thing, at least it doesn’t explode!

I don't know if it's rubbish (I think my Pioneer sound system sounds pretty good), but I also use the adapter on the AUX cable in my car and have zero distortion issues. Maybe a YMMV thing depending on your car's audio components.

I could never use iOS again. Thats such a restricted OS to remain in. You guys suffer but enjoy your limitations at the same time ironically. Its almost like you are brainwashed and will accept anything apple gives although they seem to remove more than what they give lately.

The Note has a pretty loyal following (Noters). Similar to iPhone SE people. Each group loves the respective product for what it is, and aren't as numerous as iPhone or Galaxy S buyers.

Name the features...I could literally list tons of features you dont have in comparison to a Note 8....even a note 4 for goodness sake.

Anyone watch the event live? For all the complaining that occurs for Apple events, I found this one extremely painful to watch.

Was especially fun to see them showing off Live Focus (portrait mode-esque feature).

The Dex stuff is a cool idea (has been I'd say since the Atrix back in 2011), but never seems to be well implemented. The guy on stage really seems to love using it. He really impressed himself when he started a video call (With some service called zoom "let me jump into the zoom app", really seems lacking compared to the way FaceTime is built in right across all apple devices), and then connects his phone to dock and all he had to do was open the Zoom app on the monitor and the call switched over. "Look, didn't even have to reconnect."

Really beautiful looking device, Gorgeous display. it's really a surprise that Samsung is still retaining the headphone jack on their latest device, the Note 8 is the Latest Phone that still retains the 3.5mm jack, now that other competitors are stepping in to get rid of headphone jack.

If you saw the event, the VP of Product Strategy really took a few jabs at the end of the event regarding the 3.5mm analog headphone port. The crowd got riled up over that and when there was the mention of an SD card slot. Exciting times for Samsung.
