Were not talking about jail-broken or rooted devices though.

Ive said this a few times, you try and have a genuine discussion with some apple fans and they just widen the goalposts each time.

I would like to see protected folders on the iPad but then the iPad does not yet have touch ID (don't care much for the feature on the iPhone although others may). What i would like to see even more is an effective way to make payments with it. If apple does get into payments as is being rumoured then it would be very helpful to shop on the internet and make payments using the app store account and touch-ID. I would never use paypal (bad experience in the past) and i think apple would rather get into this by themselves as they do with most other things (music, movies and what not)..Almost 90% of our households online purchases are through my wife's ipad or occasionally through the iPhone..Going through the apple store using touch id would really speed up the process and make it more user friendly. Apple has what it takes to gather a strong number of online retailers and get them on board. I see them push iBeacons and app store accounts into payments strongly in the first half of this year.

Does Apple have any of features that were announced yesterday?

Water resistant
Secure folders
Heart sensor
Fitness applications
Child settings
Advance camera technology
Ultra Battery Saving
4K Recording

Health and fitness is coming with iOS8 and i am pretty confident that apple has more ambitious goals with this one given what's in the market currently. Lets see if the rumours hold true, but i am fairly certain health elements would be strongly emphasized in iOS8 at many levels. One can one's heart rate on an Iphone 5s or the 5 even..All one really needs is a free app from the app store (or google play i assume for android devices)..Not sure how many people actually do use this app and especially how many use it while working out..

Advanced camera technology is too broad a capability..Until we see a thorough review of how the photos taken by a GS5 perform vs photos from a 5s we really cannot tell the difference that all this kit provides. Apple has new patents on certain elements that I am sure they'd consider in the 6.

Imagine the extra uproar if they had included a 64bit cpu!

Apart from the Galaxy S5, what other iPhone or Android phone has a heart rate sensor built into it?

There are ways to check heart rate using the existing devices..Apple has patents in heart rate on mobile devices going back to 2010..I see wearables as a proper application and not smartphones unless apple manages to integrate into touch iD ..None of the folks I know that work out will whip out a 5 inch phone to monitor their heart rate in the middle of a session or running outside..Most don't even have their phones in their pockets..

Except, Apple was original in putting a finger print sensor that actually works on their phone.

again

Just because Apple's implementation works better than Motorolla's doesn't mean Motorolla's implementation doesn't exist.

Putting the heart rate sensor directly underneath the camera on the back of the phone is an odd choice. I wonder how many people will put their finger over the camera by accident?

I believe the camera is the heart rate sensor. You can get an app that does the same thing with the iPhone camera.

No, theres a dedicated sensor below the camera lens.

Have people seen some of the reviews of the heart rate sensor apps?! Shocking is an understatement!

Again it's like Motorola went halfway to the moon Apple actually reach the moon.

I really don't understand that analogy you use!

Also, are you ever going to reply to our earlier conversation?!

I'm using the moon as an analogy just as a goal I could've used The end zone of a football field.

To answer your earlier question okay I think is very half assed that Samsung made it water resistant and not waterproof. The Sony Z2 that was just released is water proof, that in my opinion is something done right.

And and as far as the heart rate monitor goes why the hell would you put it on the phone it's too much of a thing to do. They released too smart watches and one fit gear those would have been the perfect place for a heart rate monitor etc.

And as for 1080 P video and the whole megapixels race how about let's just make great cameras, improve on that technology. what the hell are we going to watch 4K video on, most consumers barely have 1080. tell me I want I really would like to know

That HR app is overrated IMO, it's very inaccurate. Samsungs 2 wavelengths of light should hopefully be more accurate. In general though those optical detection systems work poorly when in motion, unless you really have it against the skin and it's not moving or pressed too loosely/tightly. IMO it's just a gimmick anyhow, especially from a fitness point of view where the value of HR tracking versus just common sense Rated Perceived Exertion makes more sense, especially if you have a more modern cardio program incorporating interval training where it doesn't make sense to check your HR every 30 seconds, and that's assuming those sensors can read your HR that quickly, which I doubt they can. People love to overthink fitness and throw money at it, thinking more money = increased efficiency and results.

People have probably not read the reviews because most folks probably do not care to read or monitor their heart rate using their iPhone or android phone. I would not even dream of using the phone and this app to check my heart rate while working out..in fact my phone is not even with me while working out (i use the shuffle for music)...

And still neither would have made sense. Why not say what you want to say, rather then relying on analogies that do not work.

You do realise that the smartwatches have heart rate monitors built in?

I think its a great step having a water resistant phone. Its good for upto 1m for 30 minutes. That covers more then enough situations.

You also note that Samsung improved the auto focus of the camera to .3 seconds! Thats a great improvement in technology and a first for a smartphone.

Id record everything in 4K now. That way when I have a 4K TV I can watch all my memories in glorious 4K action.

How many 4k TV sets and monitors are actually sold? This phone would be ancient by the time these things proliferate to the mass market..Heart rate monitor is a total gimmick on the phone especially when it comes to fitness. On a watch or band it's completely legit, on a phone..NO WAY in my opinion. Water resistance is a very good feature in my opinion. Most of the folks i know do not want to go swimming with their phone..they just want to go to the beach, use it in the rain or want protection in case they accidentally drop it in the sink or something.

I think heart rate monitors built into the phone so I bad idea. I expect a company like Samsung should be a leader in this

Again, its called future proofing.

Days out, birthdays, births etc etc - Record them all using 4K. Then when you eventually get a 4K set you can watch them back in superb quality.

I totally agree! The app is a complete waste of time..and the sensor on the GS5 will end up being a gimmick..The band looks promising especially if the development community embraces it. But I do not foresee many using the phone regularly in their work out regimes to check their heart rate when ring based devices can be bought for less than 30 bucks.

I can understand that line of thinking !

Why has nobody asked where the fingerprint data is being stored? There was such a huge kerfuffle when Apple announced their fingerprint scanner, people freaking out about privacy and the government having access to it (even though Apple made a very large point in the keynote about it having a secure enclave). Now that there's a fingerprint scanner on the world's most insecure mobile OS nobody seems to mind. It's always so one-sided.

Ooooh, Google has plenty of space available in their servers :D

Apple's 64-bit CPU really did catch everyone off guard.

Yes. Mostly because very little of what you would want/need 64bit processing is "required" now. It's future-proofing and a spec to "tout." I am not saying it's not valuable.

1. Point is - it's not there now. Samsung has embraced it.
2. Point is - it's a worthwhile and valuable feature. TBD how awesome (or not it is) but it's definitely a unique selling proposition and is an upgrade to the camera element that could really matter.
3. Point is - there are ways but Samsung has built it into the device. Quirky in execution or not

I find it silly to keep circling around the same data points over and over. Samsung has brought some new stuff to the table - You can't really argue that point. Whether or not it's usable to you or others is subjective. But no one can really say Samsung didn't update and upgrade their Galaxy line. Is it a massive update - no. But then again - I wasn't overwhelmed with several updates to the iPhone line. I think we all expect faster phones and better screens at the bare minimum.

The HR sensor is an overblown overhyped feature anyway. The whole fitness band craze is just marketing to people who like to crunch what is IMO semi useless numbers. That's coming from someone who was a personal trainer for almost 20 years.

I'd be willing to bet the 'Heart Rate' sensor is just the camera. There have been apps available for the iPhone that turned the camera into a heart rate monitor for years.
