You mean the worlds most insecure mobile OS because Apple it's main competitor told you so

Ah, so Android's insecurity is simply pro-Apple propaganda eh?

Just keep sipping what the Google machine is serving you.

Putting the heart rate sensor directly underneath the camera on the back of the phone is an odd choice. I wonder how many people will put their finger over the camera by accident?

It's all about the implementation there pal.....

And, as many fingerprint scanner "experts" will tell you - the technology Apple used for TouchID is VERY different from that used in the typical fingerprint scanner (the one used in just about every other smartphone that's tried it).

When will people get this? It's not about matching features (fingerprint scanner for fingerprint scanner). Its about how those features are implemented....THAT'S what matters.

In this case, it would seem Apple wins handily.

How do you make that assumption? Apple can be let off because they stick it in the home button and it's a press scanner as opposed to a swipe one? Yet they BOTH do the same task.
No, Apple copied the idea from Motorola straight up who did it first and by several YEARS I might add.

Motorola Atrix came out in 2011, iPhone 5S comes out in 2013 copying the finger print scanner idea, coincidence? I think not!

It will be interesting to see if Apple's wearable is cross platform at all (or independent) or if it's only an iOS compatible device. If it is only for those with iPhones and iPads - I don't "begrudge" Samsung for their device only being compatible with their phones...

Agreed. Only problem for Samsung is their minority market share with their galaxy range. They can't gain traction in a saturated or decreasing market (unsure of current Galaxy share trend?). If Apple did an iOS only wearable, it would still make sense because pretty much everyone who would be in the market for one already has a couple of iOS products*.

* An obvious exaggeration, but I bet it's not far off.

-I could switch modes so I don't worry when I pass the phone to my kid"
-My phone was water resistant"
-My phone wouldn't die when I'm running low on battery"

Exactly (I posted this earlier in this thread) - and also to have a separate photo roll; Exactly; and I forgot to mention this in my post - but this is a great (if it works in implementation) added software solution that should be standard on every phone. Samsung's black and white mode (I'm hoping) could be the de facto standard going forward

I like how they release a fingerprint sensor a couple months after Apple, yet it looks a lot more cumbersome to use.

Samsung seem to just stick things in their phones without consideration how practical it is.

Enough has been said about their useless fingerprint scanner - yes I can say that without having seen it in operation. By nature it's not as easy to use as the iPhone one because you have to move your finger steadily down. Awkward enough on an HP laptop (where I have tried it), but no practical advantage whatsoever on a phone.

I remember when the rumours said Apple was introducing a fingerprint scanner, I thought it would be a useless gimmick, but instead they found a much better implementation.

The heart rate monitor seems even more strange to include on the phone itself! You hold your finger on the sensor (shame they couldn't do that with fingerprints)! But ideally you want something to monitor your heart rate either continuously when you exercise or at least at intervals.

Having heart rate monitoring on the wrist band continuously monitoring makes sense, on the phone it's a pointless gimmick. You'd only be able to take your rate before and after exercise and I know my rate goes down quickly after stopping exercise, I'd want to know what the peak rate was while exercising.

Still, their 'gold' model looks so bad even those from the middle east who like their bling will probably steer clear of it.

For April fools can all the Apple rumour sites not get together and start a new rumour, one with no basis in reality and see if Samsung release a half arsed implementation of it?

The fingerprint sensor is probably useless in the S5 I agree. The way I hold my phone, my thumb is never straight up and down. It's at an angle. Apple got this right. Samsung, not so much.

Samsung also made it a 2-step process. With Apple, push Home button and rest finger there. Unlocked. One step. Samsung? Nope. NOPE.

Once again, Samsung proves they're an also-ran, and Apple shows you how to do it right.

People, please stop the snarky hate towards any non-Apple company. I get that Samsung and Apple don't have the best history together, but seriously... what else do you expect from Apple's competitor(s)? They see Apple's success so of course they will try and mimic it. And when they do, everyone here treats them like crap. I know that if I were Samsung, I'd do the same thing. Sure, in an ideal world, they would be just as innovative as Apple... but not everyone can do it, clearly Apple is superior in this regard, and many others as well, of course. It's not like what they are doing is putting Apple out of business, so please, let Samsung do what they do, even if it may seem worthy of mocking (because they 'copy' Apple). And, obviously, they do include features not found on iPhones... so I wouldn't even say they 'copy' so much anyways (yes, I'm aware of the many many lawsuits involving this kind of stuff).

But in the end, all these companies are doing are making smartphones... they can't be radically different from one another, they are all the same thing at heart; smartphone are smartphones. So really, no need for the rudeness towards competitors guys... It's saddening. I know it's cliché but why can't we all just get along? :)
We come to enjoy rumors about a company we care a lot about. We care about their success because they build the things we want to own. When Microsoft got away with using their ideas to beat them in the marketplace, it effected the level of support and pace of advancement for us. So, we will not support a group of companies whose purpose is to do to Apple what Microsoft nearly successful did to them, because Apple partnered with them and they knew Apple couldn't change course overnight. This is one of the sites we have come to to cheer on our company even when it looked bleak. So, NO! I don't care what they do. If I no longer believed in Apple I would stop coming to this site and frequent on supporting my new company, much as I did when I switched from Windows.

The Atrix's implementation of the fingerprint sensor was ****, I should know I had one, rarely used it. The mobile industry seen how **** it was and never took note.

Apple seen the potential fingerprint sensor could be, but noticed it needed to be done right; accurate yet secure and 'just works' with no need to swipe your finger, they done this.

Do you people honestly believe Samsung would have released a SGS5 with a fingerprint sensor if the iPhone 5s never had one? No chance! Samsung seen that the fingerprint can be done right, they then went for it.

Why can't anyone appreciate innovation and new technology instead of just bashing anything that Apple hasn't done?

Super Original

Wow, I'm extremely amazed to see how original is Samsung in terms of new features, they just released a phone with a fingerprint sensor! That's awesome. So creative, they definitely hate copying things others did first.

Apple did not copy Motorola. Yes, they added a fingerprint scanner, but Touch ID works differently to a regular scanner.
By your reasoning, Apple copied by implementing a screen in the iPhone.

The question is not whether the S5 and 5s fingerprint scanners perform the same task. The question is how well the S5 scanner performs. Time will tell.

You're right, Apple does EVERYTHING first, anything that any other company comes out with is just copying. Except when they come out with an iWatch. Oh and the swiping notifications. Oh, and bigger screens when they come out with them

And still managed to balls it up. LOL.

I really like that water resistant part. As someone who has had two iphones ruined by water, that's a really nice feature.

Absolutely ridiculous, Samsung does so many things before Apple does. Do you think Apple will release bigger screens for their phones because they have seen other companies being successful from it? Same thing but even worse
