Current foldable devices are useless. Perhaps Apple will come up with ones that make sense.

Did Apple have to discontinue the entire production of some model because the CONSTRUCTION caused problems with the battery? Apple, like any company, sometimes has a problem with a batch of batteries bought from an external manufacturer.
The fact that it did happened...

I’m betting on the phones eventually failing like last time. Maybe not in days but more like months. I love my Samsung monitor and TV but this is not something I would ever consider.

I doubt Apple will ever create a "bendable" phone or tablet.

There's no screen plastic currently out there that will handle the constant bending/unbending very well over time.

Not a product I need but glad to see companies trying different things. Look forward to reading user reviews.

Huawei's take on this is still better. This feels like two separate phones in one component, while Huawei uses only one display to create a smaller and bigger "phone" variants (which is the closest representation of the idea for foldable phone imo).

Plus no corner notch.

To me Huawei version looks better, but Samsung's version seems more practical. I don't want both sides of the display exposed when folded.

Someone else above me nailed it. This is Product isn’t for everyone (i.e Price point/practicality), but it’s good to see the tech sector release something ‘different’, even if it’s not a ‘best seller’, it has potential to interject ideas in other competitors mindsets to think dynamically. [<—That’s what tech is all about.]

A useless device.

When it’s folded it's basically a large clunky phone with a small screen. When it’s unfolded you get a tablet with an odd aspect ratio that developers will ignore (like they do with current Android tablets).

Developers have already figured out useful and easy ways to make information accessible on current phone screens (for example, having an entire screen hidden that can "slide over" when you need quick access).

IF apple ever builds a foldable phone, it will be when the technology is ready. But I'm happy Samsung is trying new things, keeps their fans happy.

Yeah... For a foldable phone to capture my interest, the phone in its folded state must be no thicker than my current iPhone X. Don't want to be out and about with a twice-as-thick phone in my pocket.

It's interesting that the protective layer is still there and presumably is still removable if you try. Why make the layer a stick-on product? It's like pre-shipping a tempered glass screen protector, but one that's easy to remove. Why?

You may be correct but the market will make the determination.
Of course it will but it won't change anything. There are people who buy a lot of crap and it sells well. Doesn't mean that its a good product. It just means that people are stupid. :D :D :D

I've never seen anyone claim Apple invented anything that another phone had first. Where does this even come from?
You do not read many MacRumor post do you? Just the other day a guy was acting like Apple invented Multitouch :p.

The tech for the iPhone didn’t exist in 2007. Apple had to invent it. Critical technology from multi touch to an entire operating system had to be invented from scratch.

Heck they even invented operating systems. :p

Never said they are useful, was not the point of my post ;).

They will in 3 years and people will claim Apple invented bendables :D...considering the iPhone 6 / iPad Pro 2018 issue they might even be right :p

Well, if they do it and do it right (not an experiment like Samsung) then yes, they have invented it.

I will say it again. This tech is DOA and will be DOA for a long time.
People need to understand that not every gimmick is worth pursuing. This is definitely one of those gimmicks
You're missing the point because you are so Apple blind. What if Samsung actually pull it off and make it happen?

Which product was this? I don't ever recall Apple having to perform a full-blown recall on a product and then completely cease production of it.

Ah, yes. The typical excuse when one has no actual argument. Claim the other person is an Apple fanboy or "Apple blind".

Say what you want, Samsung is pushing the envelope with phones like the Fold and the Note. Something Apple has stopped doing a while ago. "Oh boy. Face ID now works at an angle. Another $1000 please".

I really think phone makers need to go to a 2 two phone hardware cycle. Upgrade when you have something worth upgrading to.

Why can't people comprehend that Samsumg might actually do this? That is an actual arguemement. If you're gonna be pedantic and say "they've showed nothing that works so far" well so has NOBODY ELSE IN THE INDUSTRY; does that mean it's never gonna happen? (and ....psssst it might come from Samsung)

A lot of comments here remind me of the iPhone launch. Where Blackberry, Nokia, and Microsoft all laughed at the iPhone reveal and declared it an overpriced useless phone that no one would buy because it didn’t have a physical keyboard.

I’m not against folding screens. I want to see this tech mature a bit more. I do see the benefits of having a phone on one side and an iPad Mini unfolded. This would kill the Plus/Max phablets that are unruly & awkward in the pocket.

Really? Samsung will attract some people but this is not about that. Even if Apple released foldable iPhone I would still say the same. The product is DOA simply because its stupid idea. Too many compromises for very little benefits. So the only blind person here is probably you because you are so blinded in your box that you forgot to think outside of it :)
