You mean, being features rich for 1 or no upgrade (android) is better than 4 to 5 years worth of upgrades, with less features but more security and privacy?

If you are not a developer, you should not use beta versions of iOS and then complain. Of course they drain the battery, they run debug the whole time.

Each to their own. I went through a heap of Androids (Samsungs , LGs, Sharp, Sony, .. ) and all the iPhones since 4.

The phone are nice and all, but the cumbersomeness and lack of updates on Android always made me come back to iOS.

My friend was saying the same thing as you.
So, just for fun I took my friend’s Android, just took the SD and copied all of his pictures and documents, he stored there. SD is nice, but in no way this is good for privacy or security. You may think Apple does this because of greed. I don’t.
And you could do the same thing with his DSLR if he has one.
Sensitive documents don't need to be stored on an SD card. Just data eaters like video/movies, flac files, pictures.

"What if you wanna fill the screen?". For those that don't know. You lose close to 20% from the top and the bottom of the video when you zoom-to-fill on the iPhone X but you only lose about 3-5% of the video on the side as a result of the notch.

Conclusion: Don't zoom-to-fill on the iPhone X.

Or in other words, don't stupidly zoom 16:9 video on any device that is not 16:9. It's stupid on wider devices (like the iPhone X), it's stupid on more square devices like the iPad, it's the equivalent of zooming standard def video on wide screen TVs so it chops off a huge chunk of the picture.

The notch is an alternative to the fingerprint reader in the back. Many users hate the fingerprint reader in the back.
SD Card reader? What’s the year 1995? Again this might have been nice a decade or two ago but today, user don’t want to much around with different formats, varying speed, and moving parts.
Multitasking? The only case Where this makes sense is if taking notes while checking a map or an app. One can totally lives without it.
Lower DX0 Mark? Never heard of it.
Many users still want a FPS. Apple seem to have dispensed with the FPS altogether and there doesn’t seem to be any chance of then putting the FPS under the display.

I guess ports on computers are so 1995 too.
Multi tasking I’m sure will be amazing and so useful should Apple ever bring it to the iPhone.

I hate internal storage, it’s so dang slow, when I had my galaxy I didn’t even use the sd card. And they do have a point on multitasking. Other then that I rather have the notch then those 2 big bezels that the s9 has.

Exactly. Samsung would rather have you focus on a few minor aspects where their product is arguably better than on the overall experience. Apple users have LONG said that Apple products are "more than the sum of their parts". It's pretty rare when you can dissect an Apple product with a list of specifications of each component and that "laundry list" looks more impressive than the competition's list. But people aren't buying a bin of parts. They're buying a product that USES all of those parts in a certain, carefully engineered way.

So when Samsung claims the iPhone "can't do split screen multitasking", did they stop to think that might be because Apple didn't think the small screen made that a good enough user experience? It's possible on the iPad, and that's essentially the same device except with a bigger screen and minus the cellular phone hardware.

When they complain about the notch? They seem to ignore the fact that Apple doesn't make any of these decisions lightly. Obviously, people quality testing the phone during development felt the notch didn't detract from the user experience in a meaningful way and they preferred that solution to larger bezels around the screen. I have an iPhone X and I completely forget that notch is even there. Your eyes focus on the content happening on the screen ... not on what's NOT there around the edges.

If Samsung had spent a little more time and effort on the engineering and testing, maybe they wouldn't have had the fiasco of dealing with multiple products of theirs spontaneously catching on fire?

As a long time Apple and iPhone user... IF I were to change to an android phone the first one I would cross off the list when deciding is anything Samsung has made. I’m sure that I’m not the only one!

Comparative advertising doesn’t work the way you suggested. Classic example of comparative advertising is Pepsi vs. Coca Cola (neither is hardly a “scrappy underdog”). The key element is that normally the less successful brand or one that has less prestige will make a claim about its superiority (Pepsi tastes better than Coke, PowerPC is faster than Intel processors, Mac just works better than PC and Samasung Galaxy has more features than iPhone). In some cases the claim has its merits and in some the claim is so subjective that no real conclusions can be drawn. Anyway, there is nothing wrong with comparative advertising. One can argue that in some cases it’s more informative and fact based than other forms of advertising.
What evidence is there that it works? Heck what evidence do we have that the Mac vs PC ads worked? Apple’s market share in that industry is still single digits.

Oh come on Apple did it for years with I'm a Mac and I'm a PC perhaps we should refresh your memory
Pretty pathetic that people’s comebacks are posting Apple ads from nearly 10 years ago.

iCloud is a measly 5GB. Unless you want to pay more money for storage, you still have to offload those pictures somewhere eventually. Having a removable SD card is so much more convenient, especially when traveling and there isn’t wifi. Thats what these devices are supposed to do, make our lives easier with convenience. Not make us spend more and more money again and again.
This. Being able to easily transfer 5000 pictures to a micro sd chip that cost me $10 maybe the biggest feature of Android that Apple has no answer for. Phone out of memory on vacation? Pop in another $10 card and I am good for another 5,000 pictures. No uploading required.

Lack of SD slot is a real con though. Do iPhone users not like extra storage... or even the OPTION to have extra storage? LOL
I never ever use up entire phone storage even with 16gb model, so I don’t think the lack of sd card is a problem. Everything is either on my icloud or my onedrive.
Maybe I’m just an odd ball and everyone is jamming as much data as possible onto their phone.

I'm an Apple fan, but they deserve to get made fun of for that notch, it's atrocious.
Lolz, my wife bought the X only beause she sees that notch as cute and want it. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I’m neutral about the notch and I like the face id much much more than fingerprints sensor (holy sweaty fingers)

Ok, I've got the ad that Apple needs to release. They have the manager of the Apple store walk over to this guy, rip off the Apple logo to reveal he is really wearing a Samsung shirt and then fire his A$$.
If Samsung can get away with parody on this level and it's not considered slanderous of the Apple brand, Apple needs to hit back.

Competition is healthy for the tech market whether it comes from Samsung or anyone else.

Apple don’t need to do anything. Their sales are just fine and I’m sure they aren’t bothered by these adds. However maybe they should do a follow up advert to defend the honour of all those besmirched Apple fans.

Samsung should focus on letting their products speak for themselves. Constantly comparing themselves to Apple is a sign of insecurity and weakness.
Hm,... I still remember those Mac VS PC commercials Apple made (ridiculously mocking Microsoft), I guess they started a tradition that Samsung is now following :)

That notch deserves all the jokes it gets, that's for sure.

iPhone is a luxury brand to most people

Lol, brilliant, it's this condescending tone that puts folk off Apple.. I know for a fact that you can get an ip8 in the UK for 20 something pounds a a month with a data plan. Luxury is not bought for 20 pounds a month, don't kid yourself...

No. DSLR will probably have some kind of event pictures, probably not too sensitive. In this time and age, taking a mobile phone, is taking a chunk of their lives.
The point is, that you will store your sensitive data on an SD card of a mobile phone, anybody can easily pinch off off you. Pictures and videos you will store, for your convenience, and for their size, on an SD. I know it may be useful, but, still, the point doesn’t change.
I do not argue SD is not useful, but you can also understand there may be a misuse

It's possible on the iPad, and that's essentially the same device except with a bigger screen and minus the cellular phone hardware.

But isn't an iPhone 8 plus screen approx twice the area of pre iPhone5 phones. Does that mean those screens were too small to be useful?

I used a Samsung phone for a year and the phone itself was crap. Andriod is not bad, there are some features of the OS I like but that is not Samsung and that is what is the problem. Samsung seems very out of touch and overly focused on the competition, and what they chose to criticize really shows how out of touch they are.

Multitasking. Even on an iPhone+ the scree size really is not big enough that I would be using it as a device for that kind of work. iPad sure. They are designed to be small scale laptop replacement, you know for when you want to do work that does not need a full computer. But honestly 2 webpages on the screen would be ridiculously small, not really good for reading or having a good user experience. Just because you can do something does not make it a good idea unless it is actually a good experience. That is Apple's mindset. It is not enough to toss in a feature if it is really not a good experience, just to say hey we can do that. Maybe they will go that route, but for now I am happy they do not just toss i things just to say they have it.

Notch. I like the way they implemented that o the X. They put the useful information like time and battery signal up there as well as software controls. They could have just made it flat and had a thin bezel at the top only but they reclaimed a few small areas so the screen "feels" bigger. That is why a lot of the competition is going that way and I suspect Samsung will eventually, which only makes the add knocking it even worse.

Storage. Honestly I hate the SD card in the Samsung as not everything of an APP goes there. So small internal storage sucks. I would have applications do updates and couldn't have enough storage even though i put them o the card because only some of the program was stored on the card. Also i do not want to carry around a lot of extra storage cards (which can get lost with very sensitive information..). All my important information that I carry on a cell phone is protected by the cell phones security instead of a card that can be removed and read anywhere. Why put a password on your phone if you are saving your pictures and other personal information on a removable storage media that has no security.

So these are the big 'non' features they are comparing about. Comparing the lack of a ground breaking really defining feature, i can see, but these are hardly worth focusing on. All that says is that your phone does not bring any game changers to it worth mentioning.

The other reason i really dislike these adds are they are offensive to all sides. So if you are Samsung fan you are so uninformed that you go to the Apple store and ask about features you are really interested in that you apparently know the iPhone does not have? Do Samsung users have nothing better to do than go to an Apple store to be asinine about a feature the iPhone does not have? If you are an Apple customer you are basically being told you are too stupid because you bought a phone that did not have that feature. I am not likely going to want to buy a phone from a company that thinks I am stupid. So these ads do nothing to entice an Apple customer to leave (a list of non features and and an insulting tone) and for Samsung loyalists these adds only reinforce that there is nothing special worth mentioning to entice you to upgrade since these features are not new to the galaxy series..

Whoever is paying the company that is designing these ads should really be fired for wasting company resources on ads that will not really get much bang for the buck, and does nothing to improve Samsung reputation.

And for those that say "but Apple did that...". Yes, over 10 years ago and even then they ever made it overly insulting. The Mac Vs PC adds clearly showed features that were game changers (new ways to print, better security) things that were clearly big features of their product that were different to people who most likely did not know they could do that. And though PC was a bit simple minded in some ways, PC was always treated as a lovable character, you were never made to feel that PC was stupid, just could not do some of the things (again key features) that the Mac could.

Basically Samsungs adds are "Apple does not have this minor feature (I say minor feature because they do not really show any key value to these features) and anyone that uses Apple is by default an idiot and all Samsung users are petty and have nothing better to do than be asinine about stuff.
