Actually. I wasn’t trying to sound “condescending”. I’m talking about how MOST/SOME people view iPhones in general. Most people think iphone is a premium/expensive phone. Apple has an excellent lineup with plenty of options. From $349 for IPhone SE, to $999 for iPhone X. Most people see the price tag regardless of monthly installments and think it’s expensive.
Lol, you've done it again.. just in a different way to try and justify your first comments, "most people" but changed your tack... it is a premium phone, no one disputes that.. but that doesn't make it luxury.. a Bentley is luxury. It's out of the reach of the man in the street. 100 million sales a year is common as muck.. without a shred of luxury attatched to it....

And for those that say "but Apple did that...". Yes, over 10 years ago and even then they ever made it overly insulting. The Mac Vs PC adds clearly showed features that were game changers (new ways to print, better security) things that were clearly big features of their product that were different to people who most likely did not know they could do that. And though PC was a bit simple minded in some ways, PC was always treated as a lovable character, you were never made to feel that PC was stupid, just could not do some of the things (again key features) that the Mac could.

In those Apple Ads, PC was shown as an obnoxious, old fashioned, clumsy, incompetent guy, while Mac was simply the "cool" guy in every possible way. I never found anything insulting in any of mentioned Ads, btw (be it from Apple or Samsung). None of those commercials reflects real life.

PS: Notch is still ugly, though :p

PS2: Tried Android, not even slightly interested in switching.
Happy with my no.7 Black jet edition :)

Sorry Samsung, but as much as you want to discredit Apple, the majority of iPhone users would never be swayed by these commercials. We all understand iOS and iPhone shortcomings, but also see the many more pros vs everything else on the market. This is why iOS/iPhone has incredibly high owner loyalty.

So what exactly are the pros to everything else?

No need to respond to my post twice lol. Anyways, I literally made a counterargument against that of the ad's and yours. It doesn't cut into part of the video AT ALL. Most video is 16:9 aspect ratio. The iPhone X's display has an aspect ratio of 19.488:9 meaning that the full video can be viewed in its entirety in native 1080p resolution. What you're talking about is zooming in to fill the display. Which is stupid to do in the first place considering that about 20% of the entire video is cut from the top and the bottom of the video to begin with and another 3-5% of the video is covered by the notch. So please tell me, why would you get mad at the loss of 5% of video but not over the other 20% from the top and the bottom?

You're being selectively angry at the iPhone X's design.
I never said anything about zooming in. You brought that up. Let me give you a few examples:
Edge to edge display,
Full screen,
Notch.
Guess which one of the 3 doesn’t quite belong?!

The average TV people buy today for a living room is at least 42" in size. Years ago, people were content with a tube TV that wasn't any bigger across than maybe 21" at most. Does that mean the old TVs were too small to be useful?

What I'm saying is, sure -- the screen resolution and size goes up over time, as it gets cheaper to produce it. And then, expectations change, including software developers making new assumptions about how much screen space they get to draw things on for their apps.

I don't like it when I have to go back to using an old iPhone with a smaller screen space like that today, even though it seemed perfect at the time.

But isn't an iPhone 8 plus screen approx twice the area of pre iPhone5 phones. Does that mean those screens were too small to be useful?

So what exactly are the pros to everything else?
You must not be an iPhone owner if I have to spell that out.

1. Superior Security
2. Superior Facial Recognition
3. Super App Store/Ecosystem
4. Superior Support
5. Superior performance
6. Superior Software Updates
7. Superior resell value

Need other reasons?

You implied that you were talking about zooming in to fill....why else would you have said anything about the notch cutting into part of the video? Video at 16:9 aspect ratio at 1080p can fit natively on the iPhone X's display without losing any pixels due to the notch.

LOL, too be honest, sounds insecure with the overuse of the word "superior." Reminds me of a particular insecure world leader that says he's "got the best words." lol

It’s an interesting question, but it still doesn’t change the fact that less people are using SD cards today than before, which was my point. The fact that fewer phones include a SD card slot plays part in that yes, but it only further proves my point that cloud storage is becoming more and more prevalent.

If Apple were to implement SD card slots in the next iPhone, how many would bother buying a card? How many already have invested in cloud storage and would ignore it? We won’t know.
I am not sure if you are trolling, but nearly all flagship Android phones feature SD card support. The only ones that spring to mind that don't are Google (obviously) and OnePlus. Samsung, LG, Sony, HTC, Huawei, Moto, Lenovo etc etc support SD cards. Also, the fact that up to 256GB cards are now cheap show that economies of scale have kicked in on larger size cards. You are aware that almost all DSLRs, video recorders, etc use SD cards as well as phones.

So you’re putting words in my mouth and then debating it? Might as well argue with yourself in the mirror my friend! Tell yourself how much you embrace the notch while your at it.

Most people could watch a zoomed in video like this and not realise that stuff is missing. Best to utilise all the screen in a relatively small device. However, a notch at the side could not be ignored by most people. Heavens, my son cannot ignore a dead pixel on a screen. On a 43" screen I prefer to zoom in that have black bars top and bottom.

But the X’s screen is too small which is why I want to zoom in and then I don’t like it because the notch intrudes on the picture. It’s more like having an 8 screen when watching a video in its native resolution. I came from the 7 plus and before that I had the 6S plus and the 6 plus.

I’m more bothered about the notch in the picture than what I loose by zooming. Granted I would also find the S9 screen too small to view video natively but when I zoomed in I wouldn’t have to put up with the notch intruding on my pic. The screen on my S9 Plus is big enough so don’t zoom but I’ve tried it and it’s ok because there isn’t a big cut out in my video.

I don’t care about the notch anywhere else on my iPhone X. I don’t even notice it when I’m in an app or web browsing. The only place it’s a problem is when watching video. However I accept that the notch itself is necessary to house all of the sensors.

Lol, brilliant, it's this condescending tone that puts folk off Apple.. I know for a fact that you can get an ip8 in the UK for 20 something pounds a a month with a data plan. Luxury is not bought for 20 pounds a month, don't kid yourself...

Can you post a link to the iPhone X for 20 a month.

This does not show an S9 being fooled by a picture. The company that showed this on the S8 have declined to repeat the test. Did you actually read this article.
For clarification, Samsung have always stated that the facial recognition was a convenience feature. Leave your phone on a table with friends while at the bar and they will not be able to open your phone. But you cannot use it with Samsung Pay.
Iris scan is secure for Samsung Pay. Holding up a photo with contact lenses fitted won't look at all suspicious at the M&S checkout :)

I may be wrong, but I understood intelligent scan used face and iris recognition in an AND configuration, not OR.

You're completely missing my point.

I'm not saying that there are no flagships that support SD cards. I'm not saying that SD cards aren't cheap. I'm not saying that other, non-phone devices don't use SD cards (this is getting waaaay off my original topic) and I'm not saying that nobody uses SD cards or that they're completely irrelevant.

My original point was that "SD card support" isn't as big of a selling feature as it used to be, partly due to the abundance of cloud storage making "SD card support" less essential (I'm NOT saying it's pointless) since there are other options out there.

I'm literally just saying that Samsung stating "We have SD support and Apple doesn't" isn't as big of a "hit" today because of increased internal storage and cloud storage options, some of which are free.

Yeah, 4 years ago when my family and I all had a 16GB iPhone 5S and no free unlimited Google Photos storage, we really wished we had SD card support. Today when you buy a flagship iPhone, you'll have at least 64GB, access to Google Photos, OneDrive, Dropbox, etc. Plus we have the added benefit of accessing these files on multiple devices nearly anywhere without swapping out a physical card.

Would SD card support still be nice? Of course it would. Is the lack of support as restricting as it was used to be? Definitely not.
